      @@mathisgttr1339 She did multiple times. In early 2016 she always was ashamed whenever someone brought up her past outfits during interviews, she even talked multiple times about how other people planned out her life against her will, in 2015 at Yale university she even talked about how she recently started saying "no" to things she didn't want to do, in 2017 she talked about how producers wanted her to dress in a specific way to sell more records in Five Foot Two, during ASIB interview she also talked about how self conscious she was about herself and always used crazy outfits to distract from herself, hence why she felt very uncomfortable without make up in the movie

      @COCO BROWN exactly! A couple weeks ago a hacker hacked a popular celebrity law firm and leaked all of Lady Gaga’s documents and schedules and literally every single move of hers has to be approved by her record company, it’s literally in her contracts. Even the time she sleeps or eats. I also went through some contracts from musicians from the 80s and realized that they had much more freedom back then. The music industry really has become an absolutely evil and vile industry, it’s all about money and nothing else anymore.

    • @mertmeh
      @mertmeh 3 роки тому +1

      @COCO BROWN That really is BRILLIANT! It's like Grace wrote that song about the future of the music industry! But they won't have them sing that, since it's too intellectual for them. Nowadays the more absurd, simple and vulgar a song is, the more money it makes and the more "genius" it is.

Wearing clothes that designers give her is not copying. Nobody owns image and style. People will forever be influenced by their predecessors undoubtedly. Gaga does not claim originality but rather freedom from the "pop" mold and its clear in the music industry today pretty isnt enough you have to have and edge. stop the hate.

    I don't mind artists copying, but Grace is right, you have to know what you want to say to the world emotionally and stylistically.
    Madonna spent her whole carer flicking from punk to reggae to whatever was fashionable at the time before she finally broke through on pop.
    She sold out on any roots she ever had and as a result, she never did anything distinctive as an artist except make money.
    I think that's also why Jones was so amazing in movies, really high class and glamourous, while Madonna was complete trash.

    • @dominicberry5577
      @dominicberry5577 9 років тому +12

      Ah... yes you're right.
      Actually I have issues with Madonna, which I am pleased to share. Madonna and Jones for me, are opposites. They are at existential extremes from one another.
      I think of Jones as a performer with something to say and it was her message itself, her vision which pushed her forward to say it, as with, say Blondie, Patti Smith.
      Madonna was always obsessed principally by being a star, and she did all the hard work it takes to get there and she would do anything it took, but she never had anything new to offer.
      She was forever trying to work out what was fashionable and jump on that train. Her songs were about being in love, about desire about material and sexual freedom.
      These were original themes in the 1960s. In the 80s, they were virtually compulsory attitudes. They would have been distinctive coming from a woman in Afghanistan. Women in New York take such freedoms as fairly central.
      I mean no-one's completely original, and originality isn't everything. Some of the songs were effective. Like a Virgin was good dance floor. But she didn't write it. Ray of Light is quite good. But I can't imagine it wasn't bought on order from Kate Bush.
      The idea that women could be strong was ... not new. The ancient Greeks had strong women in their mythology and you can see that throughout history.
      To be fair, by wearing a black bra and singing about wanting money, she did transform contemporary feminism. She redefined it as winning at the male ideal as well as the female ideal. It was no longer about liberation. It was a quest for power on all fronts.
      I'm not one to lecture about feminism, but talk to women studied feminism before Madonna turned up. Ask them whether you can liberate yourself from sexual stereotypes by competing inside them... or whether you can conquer men and money without commodifying yourself. This isn't Virginia Wolf you'r looking at. It's Ronald Reagan in a wig and a dress.
      Most traditional feminists thought she turned feminism into capitalism. This "Lean In" type feminism empowers privileged white women. It doesn't liberate anybody else. It enslaves them to the corporations those women are working in.
      But going back to the music and the women concerned, when I look at Madonna, I see a woman going "Hey - Look at me. I'm strong! Hey look at me. I'm sexy. Hey look at me. I'm in rich and famous and in love ... Look no hands!" It's like she's doing those things as an act to get people's attention.
      Grace Jones doesn't care what you think. Nobody would have guessed that what she was doing would work. She did it because it honestly expressed how she felt. I think that' why Jones came across well on screen. Well neither of them could really act. Like Swarzenegger, they are just themselves. But here's the thing - Jones happens to be an interesting person. Madonna is like a 6 year old wearing dresses and posing in the mirror. Her acting made you wonder what kind of child neglect left her with that level of attention seeking behavior.
      She was constantly second-guessing. Try punk. Didn't work... Try Reggae... Didn't work. OK what next? She would have done polka if that's what the crowds wanted. Real reggae is about discovering roots. Real punk is about uprooting.
      And I think Madonna knows this. It irks her she's a gatecrasher at art's party. In the movie, when she meets the writers of Like A Virgin, and she's absolutely uninterested in how they wrote it. It could be mistaken for magesterial arrogance - "I'm too important to meet mere minions such as these" But the truth is they embarrass her. They remind her of the fact she's trading on other people's talent. She doesn't have it coming from the hip like them.
      I mean Jones is a goddamn warrior. She sings for the art. If nobody was interested, she would be writing, romancing and seducing, because she is not getting n touch with her audience, she is getting in touch with her nature. Madonna is moved by marketing. Jones is moved by her muse.
      So that's basically it. Jones is in love with life. Madonna, with herself. Jones wants to challenge, Madonna to conform. "You can make money, you can have sex, you can do anything you want" isn't a message, its the American religious mantra.
      So your statement, "She inspired millions of people" is back to front She didn't inspire anybody. They inspired her! She's a democratic decision, a customer survey. She told them what they told her to tell them. Where is the communication?
      Jones is working from perception, awareness and vision. Madonna is wants to know what other people want her to see. Jones is uncompromising, Madonna aims to be as compromised as possible.
      Compare her with other solid female performers of her time - , Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Tracy Chapman, Blondie, Laurie Anderson, KD Laing, Tori Amos... - They all , each and every one of them, developed their own unique style and stuck with it. None of them flirted with any other style than their own peculiar style and none of them tried to work from anything other than where they were at.
      Comparing her with all these, I don't really think of Madonna as an artist at all. She's a business woman who sees an angle in appearing as an artist.
      To understand artistic integrity requires that you have some. Madonna had a desperate sense of her glamour. Grace had nothing else. If Grace forgot her roots for an instant, they never forgot her. Grace had... Grace.
      Just my two cents.

    It's funny to me the way Lady GaGa is like the first ever female pop artist who's name is always either followed by talented or begins with talented. I never heard anybody say the talented Madonna or the talented Grace Jones or the talented Janet Jackson--yet they all wrote & composed & produced their own music as well. I think Lady Gaga gets way too much credit. I don't need to watch vintage GaGa I know she's gifted but she's not alone & she's far from singular in any musical department!!!

    so because some club kids once told grace jones that “madonna was hiding out in the back row of her show” it means it’s true ? lol …madonna wouldn’t have been able to hide in the back of a club at a grace jones show in the 80s even if she tried…

It´s true that some of them are similiar but that´s designers fault not Gaga´s,Gaga just wears the clothes! Maybe Grace inspired her,who knows! Even though she´s only 25 years old she already has her own style and amazing fashion sense!

    To me it's about how natural it feels. To me Gaga is a fake, I've seen the before and afters and seeing that makes it hard for me to believe her 'born this way' thing so it gives me a MTV intern produced into an 'artist' feeling. To me Grace has a natural ability to pull off her style and music; Gaga looks like she's still struggling to find herself through the changes. Don't hate Gaga her style isn't to my taste nor is her music (seems mediocre to me).

      They have no reason to be. If Gaga ever admitted inspiration( which she doesnt) it would be a different thing but she thought Born This Way was original and got offended by the media calling her out, just like she probably did here with what Grace said. It's only musicly retards who cant see the inspiration and influence and think shes original and the fact she never admitted to it makes it plagiarism.

    You can look up Pre-Madonna tapes (before she blew up) songs like: Stay (demo) Don't You Know, Burning Up (demo) (Take Me) I Want You... The songs were good & before there was anybody to borrow from because back in the days white female artist were not recording songs like those--they were recording songs like "Pat Benetar or Blondie" and she created music from nothing when there was nothing to reference in terms of style. Wrote & composed from nothing yet you never hear "talented" Madonna. Why?

  • @KennyFame
    @KennyFame 11 років тому

    So what she plays a piano that makes you unique these days? How about the fact that if you view those same video's her music sounded very different & dare a say boring until she started borrowing other artist style (Madonna, Janet, Grace, Bowie) so why are not considered the talented ones. The world is full of pianist that couldn't bribe a radio station to play their music. I have more respect for artist that are unique & write unique music of their own!!!

    PS I knew about Elvis Presley before Lady Gaga, and he was even dead before i was born. So, i don't see your point.

    I don't mean this is any rude manner, but both Women are fucking amazing. GaGa has said multiple times that Grace is a huge inspiration & Grace has stated before that GaGa is relevant in today's society & that she see's parts of herself in GaGa. As far as GaGa as a musician, she's pretty talented as a vocalist & pianist. Look up on youtube "Lady GaGa French TV 2009 Eh Eh, Ragtime, Poker Face" or "Vintage Lady Gaga Live at NYU - Captivated & Electric Kiss". GaGa was trained classically & in jazz

    @acardoze29 She has never worn exact outfits as any of those people you just mentioned similar yes and that dosent mean that shes "ripping off" them either, Grace jones, madonna didnt invent avant garde fashion. And if everybody knows that she is an "imitator" why are all these people in fashion and music so excited to work with her when if shes meerly imitating they could just go and find the original. And the fact that you use the word "copycat" tells me your probably 11

    "Get over it" what the hell are talking about? You don't have one single argument to prove what you are saying. I think it's you that should get over the fact that Lady Gaga is one of the worst copycat in this industry instead of being unpleasant.

    key phrase THE MACHINE AROUND THEM. You can say so and so copies so and so, but these are large teams of people controlling what pop stars wear in ads, videos, I mean there are different Magazine clients etc...who will want certain looks on certain artists and then those people have different stylists givign their input. GaGa may have done a lot of looks from Grace Jones but lets remember, GaGa has a whole Haus (team) that works for her and then people outside of that.

    Being aqnd entertainer is being an artist.... LEt me give you another analogy. Let's say I came into the Art World as a new painter, and ALL of my paintings resembled the style, and methodologies of Picassso... (cubism all over the place)... My art work would be of no value and I would not respected, regardless of him being my "inspiration". As Gaga and Grace Jones are Performance artists, the same standard of originality should apply. :-)
