Just off the coast of South Negros in The Philippines you will find true heaven on earth, Danjugan Island. This island is an absolute natural haven and a true depiction of what pristine ocean and land life can look like. But it wasn't always that way! Danjugan Island used to be a mono plantation and the waters were overfished. But some divers fell in love with the reefs around the island.
In 1994 some individuals came together to form the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation to save this island. And now it is a biodiversity hotspot!
In this video, I visit Danjugan Island to learn more about the incredible conservation efforts. And see firsthand the beauty of the island!

The first time I've seen and heard of this island was when Finn Snow - a Viking (Icelander) vlogger living in the Philippines - featured Danjugan in one of his episodes a year or so ago. I remember him reminding his viewers that "this island is not a resort, it's a marine and wildlife sanctuary". Great to see the conservation efforts by PRRCFI continue to bear fruit. That’s so beautiful that the island restored itself when given a chance to. It’s so sad about the turtles suffering so much due to terrible weather likely as a result of climate change. The sanctuary are doing a fantastic job and the hatchery sounds amazing!

Nice place. They seem very prepared for visitors, what with all the infrastructure. Hope the reefs recover quickly.
A tiny part of the island has been accommodated for visitors, which will of course bring income and money to make sure the rest of the island can remain wild and protected 😊
Watching this outstanding video should demonstrate that global warming, the degradation of our natural world and similar depressing events are urgent and require immediate remediation.
That said, this particular place and the remarkable transformation shown reveal that positive change is possible by humanity. Thank you for showing this. Perhaps it will inspire similar efforts elsewhere. ❤

So glad we still have some areas that are marine sanctuary Only. I hope there will be more of these in the future in the Philippines. We need more preservation to protect our future. That is something that we need to keep awareness to not take too much from our nature.
