Thanks. I knew that the project was very involved and that the internal fittings had to be created afresh, but thought that at least the core framework of the vehicle was still viable. I wondered where the trailer got to. Maybe next year I'll be able to return to Didcot and see / film them both in action together. Simon
They did a very fine job on this.It maybe isn't sufficienly clear, but his railmotor was a total wreck when the GWS first got hold of it. It had been used as a mess and storage car with the result that most of the interior furnishings were gone and had to be reconstructed based on old photographs and drawings. The car was stored in the weather for a long period and much of it was rotting and decaying.
coming soon (either May or June 2014, I hope)... the Railmotor plus a non-powered trailer, working as a steam "multiple unit".There is a mechanical linkage which allows a train driver standing at the far end of the trailer to control the train's acceleration and braking!
citytransportinfo Oh that's cool. Yeah I saw a video of this car when it was being run at the other end. I didn't know they had a linkage for the trailer car. I was looking for that when I saw it pulling the trailer in another video. I did read somewhere that they could have done that with actual steam locomotives but they said it wasn't practical or expensive. I think it was a book I have. But the mind does wonder.
CONTINUED: I visited this car some years before the restoration project started and at the time it looked so sad I struggled to believe it would ever run again. Some real engineering miracles have ben worked to brng this one back from the brink. There is also a matching trailer by the way, that they are still working on but that should join 93 soon.
Thanks.

A great video, thank you for this upload, my friend!
That accelerates fast
Thanks :-)
Same height as a C Stock?
LOL !!!
I knew that someone would notice :-)
GWR ran steam rail motors into the 1930s Ive seen photos of them in traditional chocolate and cream.

grand
Is that also a DMU
no, not a DMU - its a steam train where the locomotive is at one end of the passenger carriage!
10:16 still better than FCC and South west trains
