You should plant marigolds amongst your vegetables, tomatoes etc as they help with preventing pests such as aphids , plus they look good 😊

The smaller flowered French marigolds are better pest repellents than the larger flowered African marigold varieties. Pollinators love marigolds as well.

My parents were children of the depression. They could grow anything and we had a huge garden every year. They planted flowers to keep the bugs off the vegetables. So…according to what I was taught as a child, you NEED flowers in the garden. 😀

My grandpa told me you pick out the biggest potatoes and use those for planting because they have the genetics for making big potatoes. I have been buying the extra large ones since we bought our home 6 years ago and we have been getting some very nice, big potatoes.

When planting ornamental, I try to go by the rule of you want spillers (vines that go down), fillers (beautiful flowers and such) and thrillers (spikes or something that goes high) to go from the front to the back in planters. Happy gardening. It’s been a beyond cold spring in Minnesota (15 degrees below average!)….. snowing again today and I can’t wait to get planting. Living vicariously through you!!!

I'm dealing with bladder cancer as of the beginning of February (that's when I found out). Your videos "take me away" for a bit. I'm 70 years old and an epileptic as well. Your videos have taught me a lot. Just wish I had the strength and energy to get something started in pots. Living in South Texas, it gets hot here quick. I really enjoy everything you do. Keep it up and God bless!

A double pot might do the trick just like you do for houseplants. This time though you don't make the inner pot fit nice and snug; you keep a good space between the two. Air is a good insulator so it'll help mitigate temps.

I can totally relate when you talked about being SO BORED in the nurseries. I grew up with my parents owning an antique mall so every family vacation was a buying trip. We would spend hours inside flea markets and antique malls and I would be so bored, but now, at 32, I find myself longing to go wander around those same haunts I once despised. ❤️

"SQUIRREL. " LOL, Becky. I'm loving it that you can laugh about it! But seriously...those impatients are shade plants. I usually get 2 1/2 six-packs to make a hanging basket...talk about impact! And also I highly recommend caladium bulbs for an astonishing display of color in a shaded area. And the great thing about pots or hanging baskets is that you can move them to shaded areas as the spring light moves to hot summer and fall.

I always went for the dark purple and red flowers. But a nursery owner told me one time that pastels show up so much better against the landscape. He said when you drive down the road and look at yards, check out the colors that stand out to you, and he was correct; the pale yellows, the whites, and the pinks and lavender all show up much better from the road or even when you’re inside your house looking out at your garden through a window.

The flowers in the garden will help attract the bees for pollination for your vegetable s. To maximize the potatoes that have multiple eyes, you can cut them and then let them cure for at least two days. This will help prevent bugs being attracted to them once planted.

Oh when I heard you say you liked to lay out in your yard I thought oh goodness she needs a hammock. I'm on my third one because they don't last forever but it's my favorite place to "hangout" almost anytime of the year. Even when it's cool if it's nice out i'll tote a blanket outside for a nap or bit of reading. The fresh air warm or cool is good for the soul! Mine is on a stand so I don't have to worry about having the perfect trees to hang it from and I can drag it around where I fancy!

I always grow my beets in cells/pots and they transplant easily. Never had any problems. I don't do that with parsnips or carrots - they get sown direct - sow the radishes along the same rows so that they mark the line as they grow faster and offer protection to the slower starting roots. :) Love your choice of French marigolds - I have similar just in the seedling stage at the moment. I'll be growing them in the greenhouse to keep the aphids away. I also have to sniff the herbs! Happy, happy video! Cheers! xx

Hi Becky, The best hummingbird feeder I have found is Wild Birds Unlimited High Perch Feeder. When you were shopping, I saw the Aspects HummZinger feeder over your shoulder, which is excellent, too. They are the easiest feeder to clean. If you decide to feed the hummers, please keep the feeder clean. Do not wait 1-2 weeks between cleanings. Never let your feeder become cloudy or moldy, bacteria and mold will kill. Always keep clean. Feeding hummers is a big responsibility. If you don't have time to keep your feeders clean and fresh, just plant flowers. When temps are 70-80*...clean every 3 days. Temps 85-87*...clean every 2 days. Temps 88-99*...clean every single day. Good luck!

For the potatoes you can use any large container and start the potatoes low, and add dirt when you start to see the greens pop through, don't need to buy a spendy container for them....we've even used extra 5 gallon buckets, and stock tanks!

I love adding flowers to my garden, especially to bring in the pollinators for all my veggies. Merigold, Sunflowers, Zinnia, Geraniums, Nasturtiums (first time this year), and more! So excited for the garden this year! Zone 7b, North Georgia 🥕🍅🌷👩‍🌾

I went to our local milling company (feed store) and they had really expanded their seed section with so many people gardening. I was so excited to see things like the lemon and lime basils. I stocked up. A couple years ago I brought dried thai basil and a small basil up to pick off seeds and the next year we had volunteers. Mom was not happy but by then end of the season she agreed that they smelled good and we left them to keep coming back. I cringe at the number of voluntary marigolds that will be spread out across my property this year.

That white pot is perfect for the olive tree! 😍. Looks like a fun way to spend your day! 🥰 Also - the little white flowers are called sweet alyssum and I’m pretty sure they’re edible and in the cucumber family…but I know for sure that’s what they’re called. 😉

Once they're established, alyssum will spread all over, where I live - warm to hot (110°F, windy high desert, California.) If you water a shaded lawn here, with a border planting of alyssum, you will soon have an alyssum lawn! Make sure you keep it watered, well-fed, and happy where it is, and pull up the strays. So pretty, though!
We all -family and friends - love you, Becky, and pray that God will bless you abundantly. You can have no idea the light you bring to others' lives!

Make your own hypertufa pots. Easy to do and lightweight. Excellent for outdoor use as well. There are a lot of UA-cam videos showing how to do it.

Living vicariously through you right now haha. Currently finishing my last uni assignment and can't wait to get into gardening once I'm all finished. Although here in the UK my last expected frost isn't until last week of April!
Thank you for uploading and keep doing what you're doing :D It's great!

I work at a garden center and we also sell ladybugs. They are great for plants that are infested with aphids. They will stick around in your garden as long as there is plenty of food for them. We actually release a couple of containers in our garden. If you do purchase some, just make sure to release them in the evening when it is cooler outside.

Becky, it just makes my day when I see you've posted a new video. You had me pulling up Lowe's and Home Depot sale ads for my area. I'm glad I did because potting soil will be on sale starting tomorrow and I need more. I live in an apt so pots are the only thing I'm able to grow anything in at this time. I love all of the beautiful flowers you got. Purple and orange are my favorites too. I can't wait to see how they look in your garden. Have a great day!

All those flowers look so pretty. Please do a video on planting them in the pots and where you put them. Maybe your wonderful mother could make an appearance to help do all the planting together. Watching the two of you together and your sweet relationship is so fun. :) I love all your videos and look forward to them as I am currently building my 20 acre homestead, canning, starting seeds, growing, raising chickens, hatching chickens, all the fun things.

Yes those creeping Jenny will be a perennial for you, and they are so easy to propagate, so the one of two small plants will create just about as much as you want over the years

In my area they must be kept in pots. Once they hit the ground they will root in and spread like mad!

Yes, that is true here also, I read they are a nuisance for a lot of ppl, and I can see that, but if you keep your eye on them it's hard not to like them ❣️

The creeping Jenny’s will root in wherever they touch soil. You can break it off once there are roots and have more plants!! A plant that’s always giving

Hi Becky, you're at my favorite nursery since it's so near my house. However I never buy pots there, way too expensive. A great place to get pots is at Ross or big box stores like you mentioned. Glad you got the olive tree, I did it two years ago and it's doing great, winter hardy here:)

I completely agree that growing starts vs growing from seed require different skill sets. Im not really good at growing from seed.
I love houseplants and am pretty good at giving them what's needed to thrive.... I have a grow tent full of to rare and tropical plants (probably around 150 plants) and I can keep all of them alive... But I managed to stunt this year's seeds...

I’m surprised you are able to pull leaves off the plants. Our nurseries have signs all over about not picking plants. Smelling the entire plant up close it usually good enough. The little petunias are called million bells or calibrachoa!

Those ‘smaller petunia’s’ are million bells ( calibrachoa)….you are going to love them. They are prolific bloomers…..make sure they are in full sun to get the most blooms…the little white flowers look like alyssums. Love watching your vids 👍🙂

Great choice with the allysum Becky. I plant it every year to attract the beneficial insects that eat aphids. They smell great too! I just sow the seeds directly where I want them. They will reseed too, I have to pull a bunch every year because they grow crazy lol. Easy to pull though ☺️.

Nice selection! The little white flowers that your parents have are Sweet Alyssum. They grow very easy! They are a hardy plant that will grow on tops of mountains or in the tropical areas. They can also self seed in some areas. I have placed a sheet of paper under mine and given it a shake to collect seeds and start in other areas. They should love your pots or cover the ground under tall plants.
