Story Time: The first time I met Andy was about 15 years ago, when I was a broke college kid. Andy is younger than me so we met through the local car group that would hang out in parking lots...( yea, that is how we used to network back then) Anyway, a good friend of mine with a 95 Turbo AWD Eagle Talon had his clutch go out. Since we were all that broke college kids, it was his only car and it needed to be fixed ASAP so he could drive to work. So on a Sunday night, fixing the car outside in the dark, we need a tool we don't have to finish the job. We knew Andy enough to give him a call and he was kind enough to not only borrow us the tool, but bring it right to the driverway we were in. Oh it gets better. He shows up around 11pm, STAYS UNTIL 3AM on a Monday morning to help us finish our first ever AWD DSM clutch install. Dude barely knew us. I'll tell you what, Friends for life after that!
@@sscamarocodyg878 I'm in those days right now in a Lowe's parking lot. I'm leaving the area soon, I feel like these memories are going to stay with me forever.
This guy reminds me of gun enthusiasts who can disassemble and reassemble their firearm blindfolded in under a minute. He goes through the motions like it’s all just muscle memory. Like it’s a puzzle he’s already solved a thousand times before.
Watching how quickly he shifted through all the gears by hand was stupid. How many people know how to do that, let alone how ingrained in his mind it is? Hats off to Andy!
@Silver Fox Dude, sorry, wrong term. I didn’t intend it to be offensive. You are absolutely right, it does sound derogatory and it wasn’t my intention at all. I just came off another 13 hour ICU shift this morning and didn’t think through my words well enough.
Took me 6+ hrs just to take it out of my EM2. Then I opened it to change the pilot bearing and f*cked up on the placement of neutral or something like that and had to retake it out of the car to set it right, after it took me all day to take it out, change the part, and put it back in. And that was like my 4th time removing the trans lol.
Just got some food cooked up to eat, opened youtube and smiled my happiest smile seeing gears and gasoline's new video in my feed! Happy saturdays ! :)
The term technically proficient goes for Andy. This dude is easily one of the coolest mechanics I have ever seen. You are lucky to have him on your side.
That was like watching art being created. Seriously inspirational work. Made me want to open the garage door and take something apart, then I remembered I have zero tools or skills.
I'm on page 2 of the service manual and he already had the transmission out and disassembled 😲 Some people are just so good at what they do... Your just in aaawww by how good they really are. Master in his craft. 👍👍 You don't even have to be a car person to respect the skill and knowledge some people have. Just amazing 👍🇺🇸
Such an amazing video! Also I’d like to say that Andy is an amazing mechanic, from the looks of it he works pretty damn fast and his work speaks for itself.
i love this channel. i’m a newer car enthusiast and am trying to learn more about stuff and this channel just makes it so easy and fun to follow along. thank you!
Loving the quality videos aswell as quality build. I see my self more of a driver but do appreciate the mechanic builds as it fascinates me. Keep up the great work
My Saturday mornings don't officially start until I watch Gears & Gasoline with a cup of coffee. I am very much a gear novice but love the G&G videos. I look forward to them each Saturday. Yeah, Andy is like a Jedi Master and Ben is a Padawan (well, actually a Padawan ready to go before the Jedi Council to become a Master). This video was totally cool and I enjoyed the ASMR effect. Funny, the whole time I was watching the video, I was thinking, "How the hell does Andy know how to put that stuff back together!" I wish I knew an "Andy"! Ben & Ben, keep the great videos going!
So? Youre not paying for the parts and it's not your car. Plus the only reason we're seeing this content is because Ben filmed it. Lmk when you can film a video like this and change out 3 synchros and install an LSD in 3 hours.
This guy should be very strong! He can carry the complete gear box with his hands! I saw the other day three technicians were struggling to remove one all together! His wife should be lucky
Depends on what type of transmission those guys were trying to move, especially if they were actually putting it back in place you would need a few extra hands to line stuff up and then put bolts through.
What always gets me about build videos is when they open packages with a single-edged razor blade. The shop's got $20,000 in micrometers, bore gauges and torque wrenches but nobody thought to buy a $10 X-Acto knife.
Great video! Really makes me want to tear apart my first transmission now. We need some really light lofi in the background. Just barely even there but lofi makes everything better.
If this guy charged 100 an hour in labour this would be well under a grand in parts and labor together for a totally rebuilt transmission done in half a day.... Absolutely incredible.
I can't believe his gloves lasted 3 hours. I would've gone through 4 pairs and still managed to grease and cut my hands and the transmission isn't even out yet 😂

Repairs when you need something urgently hit different
Kinda miss those days...lots of fun in the Shopko parking lot
What a great guy, you can tell it even from a UA-cam video.. wish I could meet him in person...
Thank you for sharing that story.

he probably did 1000 times
I can disassemble a rifle and put it back together in that time. This video is nothing like that 😂😂 I’d take a few days to do this lsd install

Only 33 minutes to get that out of the car... that's impressive. 3 hours total is even more impressive.

Actually it only took 1min and 47 sec 👀
Well that's Andy for u
I wonder if he only charges an hourly rate for his work.
@@James-po2sv That's would be dumb IMO He's a master of his craft, he should charge more than a regular shop and take half the time.
This video deserves some kind of award, no rice background music, real wrenching on parts sounds, and a master at work.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the no sound track. I prefer the soundtrack of just wrenching.
Rebuilding diffs and a transmission is more fascinating than rebuilding an engine
Agreed
Andy litteraly rebuild transmissions faster than I drink my coffee on a saturday morning 👀
This is soooo satisfying to watch, no loud music, long voiceovers, just a dude wrenching on a fast car
Andy doing an install that would take me a month: "Hey guys I'm going to install this LSD, wake me up when I'm done."
Love the fact there is no music. Just garage sounds. Brilliant!
Is there anything that Andy can't do? I'd say make a video of that but it seems like it wouldn't be very long. Dude is way talented.
Just got some food cooked up to eat, opened youtube and smiled my happiest smile seeing gears and gasoline's new video in my feed! Happy saturdays ! :)
Oh my, such a perfect combination of both sounds and visuals. Thank you for your hard work and effort you put into your videos 💛😚
Really enjoyable to watch someone at the top of their game working on cars. Never know what you're going to learn, and they make it look so easy.
The term technically proficient goes for Andy. This dude is easily one of the coolest mechanics I have ever seen. You are lucky to have him on your side.
The speed and efficiency this man works with never ceases to amaze me.
Videos with Andy are the best! Its amazing watching a master at work. Also, thanks for not ruining the video with music.
That was like watching art being created. Seriously inspirational work. Made me want to open the garage door and take something apart, then I remembered I have zero tools or skills.
He is The Flash of Auto universe!! And thank you for no music to enable us hear the clicks and clacks.
Addy, you have definitely found your meaning in life. To make Ben go fast ! ! ! !
It's amazing to watch you work, your a true craftsman.
The quality, the production, the audio, the content.... y'all are just the best. Please make the ASMR builds a series.
I’m just waiting for Ben to k swap his truck
Darn, you make this LOOK SIMPLE!
PLUS, New Synchro's!👍
Incredible work guys. This is the best

Cool to the see the progress you've been making on this build. Keep up the good work.
Watching someone work on a car without swearing is something beautiful...
I was thinking the same thing 😂 Andy is so chill
Thank you for not having the usual background music throughout! Great editing and attention to correct focusing, picture quality was awesome.
Just WOW 👏, I wish I had a mechanic genius like him. Just amazing, I hope he has a UA-cam channel 🙏
Such an amazing video! Also I’d like to say that Andy is an amazing mechanic, from the looks of it he works pretty damn fast and his work speaks for itself.
Waiting for K Swap RX-7 Episode 3, cant wait!

Ben became a good driver on the track! Glad to see your progress along the way with the builds and races

knowing I'll someday need to do this to replace the synchros on my mazdaspeed3, I'm glad that it looks like such a fun process
Love Honda and their left handed threads!
It takes me like 6 hours (give or take some) to do a clutch. This man really did a whole ass trans rebuild and got it running in 3 and a half.... WUT
Your 4 hours faster then me! Always a badder dude out there.
i like taking my time, wrenching is fun!
