Yes, I agree, you can correlate the information from the butterfly with an analog vario and maybe with the airpseed indicator to cross-check if you're climbing /descending, and additionally the turn and slip indicator to cover the bank angle to some extent. I am looking forward to seeing your new videos sir.

That butterfly vario is really bad ass. Especially cause of that really neat artificial horizon so if you get in a small deck of clouds and you don't wanna exit nose up, that'll do the trick.

I own one of these and overall it is great. I once found out, however not to rely on the horizon. I was just below a cloud thermalling. Thought Id put it to the test while flying through the wisps below a nice cloud. As I banked in a steep turn and took a good jolt, the horizon reset itself.. Luckily I had the option to leave the cloud.

First firmware was not robust enough, for example gps reception could affect horizon. But after update, I have had 10 years of 100% reliable flying. I always fly with t&b, so horizon is just additional info.

Yes it is, but please take manufacturers advice seriously, the AH is not designed to be primary or only instrument for IMC flying. I'll post some cloud flying videos later.
