I love the way you measure the outside of the base so to match the flange width and then the inside is thrown within that measurement and it will always fit! I've been measuring the inside of the base and was always having a little problem with everything fitting. This really helped!! Thank you Brandee
Really enjoy watching you throw---you make it look so easy and as beginner I know it is not!!!!!! Could you tell me how much clay you use and the dimensions of the base and lid??????
Thank you for watching! I am using about 1 lb. of clay for the base and slightly less for the lid. The base is about 4"w x 4.5" h and the lid holds over 1/2 cup of butter when finished.
i love your work. But i didnt understand the concept of this particular base with a lid which also holds something on top, could u please explain. many thanks
UA-cam won't let me post a link in my comment, so here is an explanation of how a butter crock works: 1. Pack butter into the lid, pressing firmly. 2. Fill the base with fresh, cold water. The water creates an airtight seal to keep oxygen out, allowing the butter to be used in its soft form without refrigeration. 3. Replace the water every 3-5 days to keep butter fresh and spreadable for up to one month. Vat19.com sells a commercial version; check out their site for a video on how it works.

Love your video. Do you have one showing the trimming and the knob placement?
+Kwai Reitz Not yet, but next time I make a batch I'll try to remember to grab a video!

Why did you poke a hole in the center with a pin-like tool?

no sound?
What's that little piece of cloth you're using to compress?
It's a piece of synthetic chamois strip, which you can purchase from Wiziwig Tools. I'm still using the same set 8 years later!
Love your butter dish! Would love to see you trim the top. Also you can make a clickable link if you use before your www. even in your description.
