Biography
With a legendary career spanning five decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America’s iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.
Composing a catalogue that includes sixteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), one quadruple-Platinum single ‘Carry On Wayward Son,’ and another triple-Platinum single ‘Dust in the Wind.’ KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70's and ‘80's. The band's latest album "The Absence of Presence" released in July 2020.
The band is currently comprised of original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, and original guitarist Richard Williams. With no signs of slowing down, KANSAS continues to perform in front of large and enthusiastic audiences around the world.

Carry On Wayward Son
Kansas
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about, I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
No!
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, none can equal the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry (Don't you cry no more)
No more

GWAR is so fun to see live. Imagine singing and dancing and acting on the stage in those costumes for a few hours. Don't know how they did it. RIP Oderus Urungus (Dave Brockie)
Whoop 🙌
They are out of Richmond Virginia! They also have a bar and their own brand of whiskey Catoctin Creek! I 1st saw them on MTV's Beavis and Butthead doing a song called Saddam A Gogo, an original of theirs.
Awesome 🤩
I lived near Richmond for a few decades. I was actually driving through the city one day and saw them, maybe working on a video. I was busy so couldn't stop though.
Gwar came out long before lordi and were the originators of this style of theatrical shock rock, but the og.'s of shock rock would be screaming jay hawkins Arthur Brown and Alice Cooper
They really were all art students . The costumes started out as a movie about aliens coming to earth and start a band . That band was fellow art students band called death piggy . They started wearing the costumes and opening for themselves as gwar . Way more people started coming to the show's to see gwar so they ran with it
Whoop awesome 🤩
University of Richmond. They blast the school indirectly in some of their early songs.
GWAR shows are truly epic
Whoop 🙌
The singer was Dave Brockie and he was Canadian so that probably explains a lot. The band has never been the same after his passing.
Whoop 🙌 aww bless 🥰
He's Canadian American. Born in Ottawa, Canada to parents from the UK and then moved to Virginia when he was 3 years old.
You're both absolutely adorable. Wonderful. I listened to GWAR on my headphones while mowing the lawn in the 80's.
Wow, thank you! 🤩
I have seen them in concert twice at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. As you said, they actually are quite talented musicians. Their shows are loud, fun, and surreal.
By the way, absolutely loved your reaction to them. This was a delight I didn't know that tonight would bring. 🤣
Awesome 🤩
The Cuttlefish of Cthulhu escaped once, ask Grambo.
Whoop 🙌
Is their concerts are one of the greatest shows you will ever go to. In 2019 I was front railing with my 5-year-old daughter on my shoulders throwing up the metal horns to pustulous Maximus
Awesome 🤩
Thank you for doing this \m/ . RIP Brockie.
You’re welcome ☺️
Legends
Whoop 🙌
You guys really got GWAR, that's awesome 😎👍
Oh yeah! 🤘
I love GWAR. I saw them at Bogarts in Cincinnati in 1995.
Whoop 🙌
Best concerts I've ever been to
Awesome 🤩
Sheer Brilliance 🤘
Whoop 🙌
One aspect of GWAR live shows that you dont see here is... THE BLOOD. Gwar's costumes, instruments, stage props, and Oderus' "Cuttlefish of Cthulu" codpiece.... all of it is rigged with "blood tubing".. the DOUSE the audience, and the clubs they play in, in water based stage blood.. and uh.. other simulated liquids 🤣 seriously though, look up live footsge of this band from the Dave Brockie era... especially the 90s... their live shows were *experiences*. Theyd have giant robots, effigirs of musicians and puppet politicians being torn apart, audience members would "sacrifice" themselves to a giant slug... it was "Grand Guignol" theater at its height.
Awesome Thankies for the info 🤗🤩
The Cuttlefish of Cthulu has been confiscated by authorities several times as I remember, I'm sure other GWAR fans can fill you in. My first and favorite album was Scumdogs of the Universe.
Awesome 🤩
Gwar is and always will be underrated imho!!
Btw, I love this version!!
Whoop 🙌
Hi 🤘
Again, thanks again for this reaction video 🙏
Today saturday march 23th, 2024 is actually the 10th anniversary of the death of Dave BROCKIE aka ODERUS URUNGUS the GWAR singer you can see here on this video from 2012. I wanted today to pay tribute to him, we miss him a lot 🖤
GWAR is still active with a newer singer but ODERUS URUNGUS will stay the symbol of the band forever since the beginning of GWAR on 1984.
Have a great week-end 😉

Awesome 🤩 and Thankies so much! 🥰
The band started out with cheap costumes, some parts made from paper mache (sp) and fell apart after a show or two. Over time they learned to work with latex, foam rubber, etc., and made better, long lasting costumes.
As others noted, the alien bits did get confiscated or left backstage sometimes. When it was worn, it functioned. I'll leave that to your imagination, or certain videos.
Awesome 🤩
That is not Corey Taylor. He was probably a kid when this band started. Odorous, the singer, to my knowledge, was the original lead singer up until the point he died. I believe they did a viking funeral for him. There should be a video for that unless UA-cam got rid of it.
Awesome 🤩
Do yourself a favor and react to the Joan Rivers/Gwar interview from 1990.
Comedy gold.
Thankies 🤘🥰🤘
RIP Oderus
Condolences 💐
This killed me when it released
Heheh 🤭
I saw them live once in a very sketchy club in Hartford Connecticut. Entertaining but once was enough for me.
Amaze balls 🔥
Corey Tailor WISHES he was David Brocke
Whoop 🙌
The cameraperson cant shoot any of the guitar solos
Gimme that cam, hold my beer!

Awesome 🤩
I had a young buddy who loved gwar. his old lady did not. he invited me over one day after work. there was a t-shirt in a frame. I thought it was tye-dyed and I asked. my man said 'nah, dude, I saw gwar this weekend... I was in the front row'. dude drove from g.ville to tallee on a fri night wearing a brand new wife-beater. stripped it off, drove straight back and framed the dang thing.. I asked 'well, what IS all that?' he answered 'ever seen a gwar show?'
Awesome whoop 🙌
God What Awful Racket 😂
Haha awesome ;D
