Hunt with the community and me! ▶ discord.gg/lightitupdan Note: If you noticed slight frame glitches with the video, it's not you/on your end. I adjusted recording settings (funnily, to improve on quality) but it clearly had some issues, apologies. It's also present in the previous video, the Charge Blade Weapon Overview, but should be squashed for any future uploads. I know it's not the quality you've come to expect here. Thanks for understanding. 💙
Feels it should be noted that you can OVER-charge your great sword where it actually does less damage than if you time it properly. So just holding your TCS is actually bad, you SHOULD time your 1-2-3 charges accordingly.
Agreed , its like literally 70 percent less damage after calculation. Why would anyone do that. I still see it with guys in full fatilis gear. 😂 Also it can launch people so watch those inputs . Everytime a CB main knocks me back literally out of a perfectly TCS I just launch him off an edge somewhere when he least expects it as a little pay back 😂
Quick Tip: You can Kick! Simply press Y/Triangle whilst guarding to give a little boot. It's good to help other hunters who are stunned/paralysed/sleeping, and in funny cases can even KO monsters!
Just picked GS up again after 1000 kills on LS, and I am falling in love all over again! Trying out new weapons to prepare for wilds and I can’t wait! Loving lance and hammer as well :)
Ever Since i started playing monster hunter world, i knew i always wanted to Master the greatsword. Recently i got Iceborne and i gotta say, Having that Slinger Burst is So much Fun with the Greatsword. Great Vid btw
hell yeah! I think there's a lot of transferrable mastery by learning GS too, since it teaches/forces you to learn excellent placement. appreciate you! ✨
As a non-native English speaker, I not only watch your videos to gain game knowledge but also to learn English, by the way, your accent is really decent.
Easily one of the best melee weapons in world, but I do think Longsword, HBG, and sometimes Dual blades and SNS comes out on top. Bow is also solid, but falls a lil short in iceborne a lot
Man I've been enjoying your content for the past few days, the quality is just amazing. I hope you find more success and I hope you are having a blast doing it! :)
I recently started a new playthrough of MHW to accompany a friend on the journey to MR, and have been trying out greatsword. I hope I'm getting better and not just getting carried by gear, but MR will show me the truth xD
Im a long sword main and i really enjoy it but i need a change of pace as it gets boring sometimes…. Considering different weapons including gs 👍🏼 thanks
I just finished the Iceborne story for the first time and I, right now am going to start in the Guiding Lands. Which GS would be a good one for this point of the game? I saw that Raging Brachydios is the best option until nearly Fatalis, and that it can be done with MR 24, so in theory I should be able (just finishing the story I am MR 33). I don't know if I should forget about that for now and just center myself on progressing in TGL or farm this later monsters so that the rest of the game will be smoother. Any advice?
I liked the Tigrex and the Nargacuga GS before getting the raging Brachy sword. Narga has purple sharpness and good affinity while the Tigrex one has higher base damage, but -20% affinity (might have hidden element so you can utilize Non elemental boost, but don't quote me on that). Unless you are super good at fighting monsters and attack frequent enough, just focus on raw damage and criticals, so just ignore element typing for each monster hunts if you plan to get more GS in the future.
I go through a lot of great options in the video! perhaps Furious Rajang would be a good shout, that tends to be a break point for folks until Raging Brachy. could also go for the Frostfang Barioth one?
@@LightItUpDan thanks for the advice. Just so many things to do and post-launch content that I didn´t really know where to start and which order to follow
Go for raging brachy, he is tough but his weapon is very much worth it. Also his armor is very good paired with teostra for master touch. You don't need guiding lands to beat Fatalis although it helps if you get the health augmentation.
I made a Guard greatsword build using 2 parts of uragaan for Guard Up, and 3 rathalos ath heart for Mind's Eye, along with some comfort skills and full crit boost and weakness exploit, it feels real comfy to play and encourages you to really trust your block in more circumstances.
@@LightItUpDan Yeah, the Mind's eye and weakness exploit has given me the opportunity to play more with my weapon out and lean into the movement combos, and ill find i can keep punishing the monster where i normally would have sheathed the weapon and repositioned.
I miss the slinger burst with greatsword in Rise, I didn't try out the new moves though, not yet there. However I think greatsword feels better to use in World.
Its funny cause GS was my main in GU with Valor, hated it in World but picked it up again in Rise Sunbreak and mastered it so now going back to World and learning haha on my AT Velk farm atm for that Frostcraft
For a paladin playstyle, for great defense and good consistent damage, I'd recommend Lance. For high damage with a counter playstyles, I'd say Charge Blade
2:23 ignore what this guy said, ignore GS entire move set besides;draw attacks, tackles, and the true charge slash.Tier 3 charge on a draw attack with focus is your bread and butter, but opportune strikes or when the monster is down use true change slash. Every other move you use just wastes your sharpness. However rising slash is good for cutting tails, that’s about it. I am a certified GS Main in every MH game, you can trust me 😂
@@LightItUpDan haha I’m just telling the truth, I’ve never seen people use those moves really. They just use those moves cause that do the most damage 😂
@@LightItUpDan well as I said before, GS isn’t a weapon to spam attacks and using it to attack a lot wears down the sharpness super quick. I’ll be boring till the day I die, my crit draw attacks destroy monster faces
the jumping wide slash does good KO damage as well. I use it all the time if the monster is getting ready to move. Good for flinches and knockdowns. I wish it was chargeable.
Im embarrassed to say i can back to monster Hunter world recently and went back to maining the charge blads. I didnt know savage axe was a thing. 😂😂 At least i got the other stuff down so it shouldnt be hard fo incorporate. Still embarrassing that i thought for 2 months that the combo into SAEDS that ive veen doing eas optimal dps. 😂

Basically I'm seeing that I need to play with controller instead of keyboard and mouse... but I like keyboard and mouse... but I'm really bad at this game. Like really bad. I'm really bad, you guys.
4:57 360° is a little misleading cause its not omnidirectional, its only 4 directions. Front, back, left, right. Minute detail though, and a new player would figure this out on their own anyway. Great guide though, i hope even more people "return to world" before wilds releases!

Yeah all solid
I have recently jumped back to GS after maining IG for a long time, followed by a bitnof HBG. Those big numbers make my brain tingle nice.
I was playing it the other day, feels so good with the slinger burst pivots too
No other weapon is named great except for the "Great Sword" !🔥🔥🔥

Lance!
Did you forget to mention focus like literally the most important skill on greatsword in his recommended skills 💀
I did 💀 I actually didn't use Focus on GS at all for the longest time you know
I’m currently in High Rank hunting the three elder dragons. What’s the best rarity 8 greatsword? I’m using defender till now
The best one you can craft! Although Defenders weapons are unmatched for the entirety of base game, provided you're upgrading them as you go
Spread HBG is still the strongest weapon in the game, other than the Palico (Palico Judgement)
