Yesterday I was thinking a lot about learning to live in faith without regularly receiving the Eucharist. I went back to my closed church and leaned against sun-warmed bricks of the wall on the other side of the tabernacle, and was given to understand that living this way is a skill, one we improve on over time. There's a deep parallel here with your point about the expulsion from Eden, missing Adam and Eve's ability to see God every day, and Christ as a restoration of that - the same but different. We are being taught, if we can learn it, to find a new way to relate to Christ, one that depends less on receiving Communion frequently. But Christ promises that He is still there, always there, even if we don't have the liturgical equivalent of an evening stroll with God every day.
Wonderful reflection! I'm always in awe of how one can connect the New Testament passages with the Old Testament! I find it very difficult! Thank you Fr. Mark! 💙🙏💙
We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls. Mother Teresa
From John 14:7-9 We seek the face of God yearn for life and truth communion with the Creator. “Just show us, that’s all!” we cry requesting proof of concept a new take on an old idea. He looks us over, head shaking slowly a tired but wise teacher who never gives up on lazy students who refuse to do the work or read the text and still, somehow, expect to learn and graduate. “Look here, at me, once again,” he says. “Let’s begin again.”
Steve Givens Steve, Smiled when I read your last line as my very strict Korean Sp. Dtr. for a number of years ( I asked Jesus for strict as I knew this Dtr. would have lots of work with this pilgrim) would often say to me, “begin again” ... to do w this woman
When I meditate about walking with God "in the breezy part of the day," I think about the best parts of nature. (It's pretty nice here in South Carolina right now, but I bet it's pretty hot in New Orleans!) I also think about the Holy Spirit and how She figures into the farewell discourses in the Gospel of John. I trust that we return to Eden when we follow Jesus and the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
yes, when are we going to see that ceiling fan working? (from Martin in Coorparoo in Queensland where Winter is setting in & we complain because we "have to wear" pullovers -- of course this is nonsense -- we could be naked like Adam before the fall if we are willing to shiver)
A whole week later and I am just catching up...I absolutely loved this reflection...all the reflections really. So many of our friends are doing this retreat in our parish. Fr Mark we thank you for being spot on! Linda English

Beautiful thoughts and quote
Wow! Very powerful talk! Thanks a billion! I love this passage and never heard someone explaining it this way! ❤️ thanks ❤️🙏🙏
Let us celebrate that we can walk again with the Father in paradise.
Amen to that.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
From John 14:7-9
We seek the face of God
yearn for life and truth
communion with the Creator.
“Just show us, that’s all!” we cry
requesting proof of concept
a new take on an old idea.
He looks us over, head shaking slowly
a tired but wise teacher
who never gives up
on lazy students who refuse to do the work or read the text
and still, somehow,
expect to learn and graduate.
“Look here, at me, once again,” he says.
“Let’s begin again.”
