Famly Farms have been the backbone of the USA and still they are-I know what I'm talking about...Dam good Movie...Movie of Truth!! God bless all those who fight and struggle for their Farms..I know the "Truth"...
I live in Kingsport Tennessee I remember when this was being filmed in Goshen Valley and Gate City! Was the talk of the town how Mel Gibson was making a movie here!!!!
Owning land near a river, stream, creek or even a lake or beach you are subject to rising water. The reason land is so fertile along the rivers are due to the floods dumping sediments onto the land which makes them fertile without the use of billions of tons of fertilizer. The US went on a dam building spree. Those dams hold back not only water but millions of tons of sediments that would otherwise replenish the soil and prevent coastal erosion. Look for a film on the Tube called Damnation it's about dam removal projects around the county that began some 24 years ago or more.
My favorite role in the movie was a very nasty character. Jack Starrett played a cruel iron factory foreman overseeing scabs while workers are on strike paying them only $4.50 an hour (very little in 1984), taking out of paychecks if they break anything, and deplorable conditions.
I saw this movie that has now been forgotten and was panned at the time. I read where Mel Gibson has said he was too young and miscast . The movie was spotty . No it wasn’t great or even good . Mel Gibson’s Southern accent kept going in and out . The story was alright and yes there were some good heart wrenching scenes and the film had heart but then there were those misplaced and misdirected scenes . The dialogue was strong so the script must have had a lot going for it but the final product fell flat . Is it viewable ? Yes I would say so .
God bless our farmers. I pray for each and every one of you everyday. No farmers = NO LIFE
the farmers that work the land don't own their land.. and all teh crops are GMO CORN and SOY.... Not edible food for humans.
