25% fuel saving improvement with a new larger 1.9L engine is a huge plus and a big call to make. Can't wait to see this fuel usage in real life from customers. Great video 👍🏻

      The cake is a lie!
The 1.9 burns more fuel not less. 25% less fuel at 40 MPH was the claim. My GP HO is burning roughly 25% MORE gas at 40 than the VX cruiser 1.8 HO. Same hull only my ski is lighter!!!!
He meant to say it uses 25% more fuel used. More efficent for chevron, shell, 76 or your local gas station as you will burn more fuel during the same time/distance traveled lol.
At WOT 1.8 HO is 13.5 GPH
At WOT 1.9 HO is 15 GPH

@@MrJamezy You spot on.I've chosen the 2023 FX 1.8 HO for that bit of extra fuel efficiency because i'm doing long trips and refueling is not always easy. Also carrying extra fuel on the back of my ski is not my idea of having fun either

Just bought two of the VX Cruiser HO models, and you can count me impressed. After break-in I ran mine wide open on the main lake and hit 68 mph. A little scary if I’m being honest. I’m more of a casual, cruising type of rider so I won’t see these speeds often, but it’s nice to know it has the capability. Well done Yamaha, well done indeed.

I love my '21 FX Cruiser HO, and the 1.8 engine. One of the things that sold me was the amount of time they had been running this engine. It is considered bullet proof by many. I like what they have done here, but I will hold off considering one until they've got a couple years worth of use. I don't like to hear that they went to some composite parts for "green" reasons.

Engine aesthetics should be given zero attention. Reliability, ease of service, and power are the top of my list.

Engine Aesthetics are great. I’d never shy away from expecting them. Reliability has not been an issue as I see it. But I don’t run my skis at 13,000 rpm’s and ride them at 100 miles an hour. I feel if you are doing that you cannot expect reliability. But! ease of service should be at or near the top of the list. Yamaha (Sea Doo & Kawasaki too) should not be looking at these like refrigerators, washing machines & lawnmowers. We want to pass these down or sell them so that someone else can use them to get them into the hobby/sport. My daughter’s first boyfriend has one of my old stand ups. That was (a two stroke for the early 80’s) and it is still “Sea worthy”.

They should make a N/A 2.0 that makes 225-230hp for these skis that would be awesome

Jet boats are going to start using this engine as well. They are in the process of changing from 23 to 24, for the moment they still using the 1.8 supercharged. But new 1.9 are being install in the lower end Jet Boats models.

I recently purchased a 2024 FX Cruiser HO to replace my 2019 same model ski. i do a lot of long distance cruising and after seeing this video was excited about the extended range and fuel efficiency that the video described (25% increase). Unfortunately after the first several rides i am finding that the range going approximately 40 mph is 20% less than the 1.8 2019 model. Ive called Yamaha on this and basically there answer is oh well buyer beware! i might also add that i compared the top speed and starting speed to a Yamaha 2022 same model ski and they were identical. It also got much better range then the new 1.9 engine. To summarize range means a lot to me and Yamaha has not delivered.

I tested my 2024 GP HO. I'm burning about 6.5 gallons per hour at 40 MPH which is about 20-25% more fuel burn than the VX cruiser HO with the 1.8. The GP has the same hull but the ski is lighter!
The old 1.8 was about 7.5 MPG at 40 MPH and the new 1.9 is about 6.2 MPG at 40 MPH. At least that's what I'm getting.
Definately burns more fuel not less, and it's significant. I'm averaging around 5.4 MPG. Happy with the ski but it burns more fuel.

I really don't care that part of the motor is plant derived. In fact I'd prefer that brace to be aluminum.

Excellent review 👍. One of the things the FX has impressed me most is it’s ability to handle the ocean and it’s fuel economy. I understand 25% is a big increase. How many miles at 40 mph w/ a 200lb rider can it go?

    • @MrJamezy
      @MrJamezy 2 місяці тому +1

I'm running a lighter ski than the FX a GP. I get 6.2 MPG at 40. It burns more not less than the 1.8. Hate to dissapoint but know before you spend your money.
The old 1.8 with the VX hull got about 7.5 MPG at 40. A 25% increase would be 9.4 MPG. That's better than the much smaller TR1 engine best cruise of 31 MPH at 3.4 GPH which equals about 9.1 MPG.
Yamaha essentially made the claim that the 1.9 is more effiecent at 40 MPH than the 1050 TR1 is at 30 MPH. Way cool if true!!! Not true though the 1.9 cruising at 40 is using twice the fuel the TR1 is using at 30. The truth is the 1.9 is burning 25% more fuel than the 1.8 at a cruise speed of 40 MPH.
That means you are burning almost 67% more fuel than this Yamaha engineer claimed you would at 40 MPH.
      VX cruiser at 40 mph is roughly 5.2 GPH - 25% = 3.9 GPH
Real fuel burn at 40 mph roughly 6.5 GPH
3.9 (claimed burn rate) + 67% = the real burn rate of 6.5 GPH
Don't get me wrong I love my GP HO but the 1.9 burns more fuel than the 1.8. At least 20% more cruising and 11% more WOT.

I believe there will be new Skis from Yamaha in 2025. Seeing the FX series hasn’t been redesigned since after 2018. This is the 4th year of the newer GP. And they are bringing an all new 1900 SVHO ENGINE. Yeah, there should be new/remodeled bikes coming out 2025.

With a few tweaks, you’ll have a killer hot rod or race car engine. Just imagine this in a Bonneville racer or T-bucket, you could have the basis for a really quick car.

And you have a new credit card captain lol

Yamaha doesn't need a new engine. What's needed is a complete redesign. Get rid of that useless front hatch (even circus monkeys can't access it on the water) and get some rear deck space. Also, marketing any jet ski for three people has got to be the stupidest decision ever...there is a reason for the phrase "two's company, three is a crowd".
