3 years later, UA-cam started feeding me your first 3 videos as a new pinball owner. Its impressive to your comfort level progress from these early videos to extensive mods and maintainence/repairs. At this point, I'm only a year and a half into owning my game and its fun to relive the entry into the hobby :)
So cool. So happy watching more pinball related videos from you. This is still something I can't afford, but I'm getting there. For now I just enjoy my full size virtual pinball cabinet. Keep it retro, keep it cool Ralph!
Goonies was the "code name" for when Stern was developing Stranger Things. They use a code name for each game when it is in development to avoid leaking file names, etc, to the public when sharing files and talking about the game. Fun Fact: Jurassic Park's code name was "Jaws"

Hey Ralph! Great video! When you and your friend opened the table, I was immediately impressed with how complicated even a modern pinball machine still is!
Me too, the engineering that goes into these products is pretty impressive. The software also seems to do a great job of fault detection from what I can see. Thanks again for watching!
There's not a goonies pin, but I think that coulda been the codename that Stern used for Stranger Things when it was in production (before the game announcement). They do that kinda stuff a lot.
Those shakers add a lot of the experience. I'm glad to see you working on these since I'll likely be buying one for the Mrs. She may be interested in doing this same mod!
Even though I will probably never got into owning a real pinball machine, I still love watching any and all mod videos. It's entertaining to me, but it bet it's super helpful to actual machine owners. Great work Ralph!
Push the plunger on your kickout coil up and that will push the balls out into the playfield.. dont sit your glass in concrete always put a towel or something down .. the concrete and hitting the corner of the glass will shatter the glass. Happy Flipping!
@Retro Ralph I knew you were just getting into pinball and would throw it out there to help.. have any other questions let me know.. im not "tech" or anything but have fixed and own a few games.. Thanks for yhe content . Happy to see ya getting into pinball!
Right, set the rails on the front edge, then push the plunger in the coil up. Shouldn't lift the playfield up otherwise you could miss catching the balls...lol
Not sure if you have the same issue but the alignment on my pro was off on the DG shot so it was near impossible to make it into his mouth. There are some pretty easy adjustments that can be done that had me from hitting about 1% of the time to about 80% of the time.
Interesting, I only got it in the DG mouth once so far. I will keep an eye on that though, thanks for brining it up. Also, thanks so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph it’s a very common issue. Check the owners thread on pinside and there are a bunch of pinned topics. There are a few around this issue including one from me about the steps to take. User name is thebeefsupreme. Feel free to shoot me a message there if you need any clarification but the fix can be as easy as removing a spacer to get the right height.
Hmmm that's weird, I own a Stern Munster's Pro and I had to install the extra capacitor cause it needs it to counter the 'Tilt' action made by the shaker motor..I guess S/Things is a newer model and it already came with the capacitor? In any case I don't have to worry about the 'tilting' effect now.
About time you created a new video - I was going into withdraw :). Love the channel - keep up the good work. And thanks for letting me live vicariously through you!
Wait, are you not getting notification? I make 1 video a week. Or are you just busting on me? Let me know though because some subscribers have said they’re not getting notifications 🤔. Thanks for watching bud ✊🏼 Your support is much appreciated!
Just a heads up, not sure if you done it yet but the pinballs that come with Stern machines are not very good. I would recommend changing them out for the Chrome Ninja from Ball Baron. You can always check the ones you have by looking for any dings or marks on the ball. They can scratch the play field over time if they have deep marks on them. I would would also wax the playfield if you haven't already. carnauba wax is best like meguiars gold class plus. I usually wax mine every 6 months or 1000 plays, and change my balls out every year. Great video.
@@RetroRalph No problem. Also, you might know this already but they made a really cool UV kit for this game. Stern made it as an add on. I think they are sold out so you would have to check the secondary market but its super cool. The Stranger Things playfield has a special UV paint on it.
You started talking about goonies and the melody stared in my head. Now “Good Enough” may be my next cover song 😂 I always get exponential value out of your videos thanks again!!

I had a tough time with those wires with my first shaker installation last year. I was like, wrap em through…what? Huh? Wrap them 2 to 3 times? What the heck? Lol I finally contacted my distributor and he was like yeah just wrap it inside and close it. Hehe. Be careful with that GLass brother. If you place a corner down just right, especially on concrete, it could shatter so easy. Try and hunt down an official Stern UV kit now bud. They aren’t making them anymore so it may be pricey when you find one. Premium or pro kit works for your pro. Only difference is the apron is metal on premium. Most people go for it. I have a pro and bought a pro kit, not knowing the premium works fine. The UV kit is a game changer and must have add on for Stranger Things. It reveals hidden artwork while it’s on, showcasing the upside down.
Looks pretty easy to install. Such a great looking playfield. I have a question about the plunger, there's no tube like I've seen with aftermarket plungers, and it looks like it uses a leaf switch. Can you post a short video maybe in group and explain how that works differently than a tube style? Just thought I'd ask. Thanks!
I just call shaker motors "auto bolt and screw looseners" because if you don't have any loose parts/screws/connectors on your game, you'll find it once you have a shaker motor. I'm just not a fan of them, I feel it's like a rumble pack in games and 99% of the time it makes no sense. That said, the UV kit is probably one of the better mods to get for this game. So you should really look into it.
I worked at an arcade in the early 90s. Earthshaker was one of my favorite pinballs to play. We referred to the shaker motor in that thing as going into self-destruct mode. It rattled the board apart every week.
Do you have a suggested sub? I saw on Pinside there's a common sub people tend to use but I can't remember the model. I know there are external sub options but I feel like that could be overkill.

I agree with you. The JP has more aggressive usage of the shaker motor IMO. It's a bit more subtle on Stranger things but it's also a hard thing to capture for a video. It's still very impactful, just maybe a bit more difficult to capture. It's well worth the upgrade. Thanks so much for watching!
