Wow, thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to learn. Your instruction is well organized and crystal clear. It’s very helpful that you give a definition of each technique and show them in the writing on the screen. I also appreciate your starting the video right to the point without the annoying “without further ado” that plagues so many videos in UA-cam.
I'll have to practice these...thank you so much. Jay... I have a question....and I know you have the solution. What do I have to do "to a clip" when a transition will not go on to the clip? I tried to lengthen the clip, but that does not always work. I run into this a great deal where the transition only drops onto either to the left or right clip ( not in between the clips) it does.. piss me off. I watched a video on how to fix it months and months ago and now I cannot find it. Looking forward to your reply~~ Thanks for the great content.
A transition will only go in between clips if there are enough unused frames on the clips on either side of the cut. For example, for a 6frame cross fade, you need 3 frames available on each side of the cut. Hope that helps!
Wow. this is very detailed and helpful. I have been using DaVinci but I don't understand these functions. thanks to you. Please make a video of the next icon which is DYNAMIC TRIM MODE. thank you. I'm waiting😊
Now when you say the clips get longer or shorter are they being cut in a sense or is it overlapping the ones next to it? Like how does each edit affect the clips in detail? Sorry I'm just having some confusion with this...
Do you have any videos syncing sound fx and music tracks to footage, its tough because they separate the audio from the video tracks, in other programs its easier to sync everything when you can scroll through all the audio layers and video on the same screen.
is there any way that i can toggle between the the two modes (the select and the trim edit mode ) ......... it would be a lot easier in editing pleas if not tell me
I REALLY appreciate your content - especially these kinds of tips! Saves me SO much time and I can be lazy and let someone else discover them! Thanks so much!
Hi Jay, I just watched your video you did with Daniel Batal. Good video but what i am wondering and i cant seem to find a way to do it, maybe there isn't one, but it would be really good if there was or if it gets added. when in the cut page and source view with the tape, so all the clips are in the window, when you select in and out points, can you anyway select multiple in and out points, imagine the clips are playing in the views would could press I then O, I then O and so on for as many clips you want then when all the clips have played you can just drag the viewer window on to the time line as normal but it will have all the clips you made. hope this makes sense
Wow how did you track the incon to your hand at the beggining so accurate? I have tried but eventually mi tracking get crazy :( Thanks for your videos :)
ok, but what if you want to make a clip longer and have the entire timeline move over to accommodate it, without it trimming into the side clip(s)? Is it possible to do that? I just want the entire timeline to move over and make extra space for the lengthened clip, rather than trim into and shorten the next clip over. Currently having to highlight and select the entire timeline and manually drag it over to make room, gets cumbersome when making long videos. It sucks when halfway through an edit I realize I want to lengthen some clips, without trimming into others. I try to avoid this happening at all, but sometimes it just does.
@@JayLippman oop sorry, that part of the video is confusing because your example seems to show you dragging the right clip into (and thus trimming into) the left clip. However I just tested with the tool in resolve and when actually using it the trim doesn't overlap the clips, it just moves them over as expected/wanted. Anyway, thanks for your videos, they've helped me alot. This tool in particular will save me from some editing crises lol
Ripple delete, does it delete tracks above or below or move them along? I can never work this out and once I had a whole load of audio disappear! I know I can look it up, just giving you scope for another video and to save my brain aha
Ripple delete will only delete the clips that you have selected and close the gaps that are created in you’re timeline as a result. You shouldn’t be able to delete something that’s not selected, although I’ve definitely thrown my audio and video out of sync before lol
@@JayLippman So glad it isn't me. This is going back to a previous resolve. I think I used the cursor, selected the clip, then delete (not backspace) I'm wondering if this is the same thing?
OMG, this makes life so much easier for me. Let's just say I was using butcher techniques to do the same thing. Jay, I'd like to mention. I recently discovered the "Full Screen Option" on the Workspace tab in Davinci. I would like to say. This also has made my editing experience much better. I work with one monitor so that extra little space is so important to me. Also, taking away the Microsoft Taskbar really makes it easier on the eyes and brain. It helps me concentrate on what I'm doing and stops me from jumping around programs. Thanks for the video Jay, this one really helped. :-)
This is a tool I've known about for a long time, but, never really used. Why? Uhhh. Temporary insanity?? Anywayyy, thanks for the reminder. I'm going to save this video and use it for future reference. Many thanks!
Jay, sir, you missed the most important feature of the Trim Edit Mode, creating J Cuts and L Cuts. How could you? You've let your family down, your school down and most importantly you've let yourself down. 😂🤣😂
THANKS FOR WATCHING!! For more Davinci Resolve workflow tips, WATCH THIS: ua-cam.com/video/1DSsggMIGlg/v-deo.html
How about asymmetric trimming in resolve ?
Knowing how to use that tool (I have never used it) is definitely going to help. Thank you for the lesson, Jay.
No problem! Thanks so much for watching!

Most of these I knew about, but Slide Editing is new to me and something I think I'm going to start using regularly. Great tip, thank you!

I love finding new Resolve tutorials. Been using it for a few years now and still learning! Great video :)
Thanks so much!
Great video Jay! I've been using this tool a lot recently for J cuts and it makes it super easy!
Lol I got scolded for not pointing that out 😂

very helpful thank you, but the trouble is when sound comes into play, with multiple sound tracks.

As far as I know that’s not a feature in Resolve, but man it would be cool if it was
Omg, thank you for this. Those always mess me up!
Hahaha glad I could help!
Appreciate this explanation. Thank you!
Super helpful tips! Thanks so much!

Thanks so much man! I appreciate you checking it out!

Hahaha no problem! I used the surface tracker in Fusion for that shot. Honestly it worked better than I thought it would lol.
Great tutorial! As a beginner this is just what I needed.

That’s what ripple trimming is. The very first thing that I showed in the video.

I’m so glad this helped! And yeah I took away the taskbar. Helps me stay focused, and it looks better for the screen recordings lol
Where is the full screen option?

@@JayLippman Could make a great follow-up 60 second tutorial. 😉
Good god i missed you bro, do you still want to hire me as a colourist for your projects as previously discussed|?
Possibly! When I have a project big enough to bring one on.
MASSIVE
🤘
haha, i didnt know about the "slide edit", but also it doesnt seem veryuseful.
Yeah I can think of very few situations where it might be needed.
