They bring back a real nostalgic feel for the respective decade in which they were manufactured. All the best and thank you.
Thank you Gregory. I do like floor models but they consume so much space. I still have two large consoles in the garage to do. The consoles are cheap too, they usually go for under $20 at club auctions. Thank you and all the best 😃
With your skills I believe you could construct your own radio. The result of this restoration is very impressive. Thanks for another interesting process.

To us it's seconds but hours of work for you. The finished radio looks fantastic. Thanks David, I'm already looking forward to your next project.
David you certainly are one of a kind. Your restoration is out standing, that radio looks and sounds better than new back in 1931,You pay a lot of attention to details, cabinet work came out good. Thanks for the quality videos you put out, thanks for the vinegar and salt tip on the wires .Beautiful radio.
Beautiful job! For someone who doesn't look forward to working on cabinets, you do excellent work. I love the furniture-grade cabinets these old radios had. It gives the whole thing an elegant look. I have thoroughly enjoyed this restoration series. Thank you for your hard work on this and for uploading the videos. They are both enjoyable and instructive.
Beautiful job and a well deserved outcome. Very handsome radio with an understated presence. 60% gloss is the way to go...thank you for taking the time to post your restorations. Very interesting and informative. Looking forward to the next one.
I've watched a couple of your restorations and each one outdoes the previous one. Of course, the craftsmanship and final product are in a class by themselves, but I'm particularly appreciative of your "production values," apart from the particulars of the restoration. Your camera work-choice of angles, close-ups, and cuts-make viewing a constant pleasure. Even more exceptional is your narration-unaffected, modest, sufficiently detailed but never overly so, and, especially attractive, your naturalness in acknowledging mistakes and do-overs. At the risk of sounding ridiculous, I find your restoration videos more engaging than most of today's first-run movies when trying to pass the time while sentenced to the Pandemic Penal Colony. Many thanks from one of your thousands of admirers.
Hi Moshe, thank you for your very kind comment. I do put a lot into this and appreciate you noticing the effort, I will keep trying to improve the end result as I endeavor to find the right mix. Thank you so much Moshe, you have made my day 👍😀
This series is superb. Thank you David for a detailed, well-filmed restoration process of this interesting radio (which has a very respectable age!). Keep up with excellent work. Looking forward to your new videos!
Just watched all four videos, Dave. I'm in awe of your dogged efforts to restore as many original parts as you can instead of taking the lazy road. Rebuilding the tiny antenna switches instead of replacement switches was what impressed me the most. My goodness. Such resolve. Most people would give up. The radio was gorgeous when finished. Bravo, Sir!👏
Thank you John, this is my favourite radio and I wanted to make it perfect, I would not have been able to get replacement switches so I needed to repair those, they still work too. Cheers John 👍🙂
That was an excellent restoration that I think would not look out of place in any radio museum. You have brought that radio back to show room condition. Excellent series well done & informative.
David, From what I’ve seen on You Tube, there are very few, what I’d regard as, first class restoration projects, which could be any type of item, but this AWA console radio has to be ranked way up there as being one of the best. It is a credit to you my friend. Best regards, Phil.
WOW, This is why Im so glad I found your channel,You do amazing work! Ive only been working on radios for about 10 years,I really like the the 1920s radios,I have a 1928 marconi radio record player,a 1927 Huge radiola Mantel Batterey Radio,And a 1928 Brunswick floor radio,..You give me hope that I can get my radios to look and work as good as yours!
Hi there Robert, thank you. I would like to get into some earlier radios myself, they are such a showpiece. Good luck, I hope your radios come out looking great again 👍😃
This came up fantastic! Definitely a huge job, but it's really great to see that radio looking and working like new. Very much enjoying these series, looking forward to the next one!
@@DavidTipton101 In the U.S. during the 1940's, a popular radio program was "Fibber McGee and Molly," and one of the on-going gags was that their hall closet was so full of odds and ends, that whenever they opened it, a great cacophony of junk would fall out, resulting in Fibber saying, 'I've got to clean out that closet, one of these days." It was one of those "you had to be there" jokes, I reckon. Representing people, in spite of all the junk falling out of the closet, I appreciate your UA-cam channel.
Thanks for taking the time to show us your restoration David, the radio turned out really well and is a credit to your hard work and dedication. I look forward to seeing your future projects.
Hearty congratulations David on an outstanding piece of work. You have obviously invested heavily in the necessary equipment in order to complete such an excellent result, but you have more than matched this with pure determination and skill over a long period of time. Looks really good in its current location, and you should be very proud of what is now a valuable asset. I do hope your good lady wife agrees and treats it to a good dusting on a regular basis (lol). My own project converting my shed /garage is nearing completion and I hope to get a radio on the bench very soon. Best wishes for any of your further projects. Cheers Lynton G4XCQ
Thank you Lynton, like most people I have built up my workshop over many years. The radio looks great although the wife wanted the flowers back 😄 and it's kept dust free. Good luck with your radio workshop project 👍🙂
Beautiful work! That sunburst veneer pattern on the front is so attractive. I wouldn’t dream of completely stripping and re-plating a chassis. David, you are a very highly skilled (and fearless) restorer!
Up until this project I wouldn't dream of stripping and replating either, I guess we get a little more adventurous as we gain confidence. Thanks Super Het 🙂
I couldn't even wire a plug, but I really enjoy watching you restore your radios. Many thanks for letting me watch over your shoulder while you work - it's fascinating.
Awesome work Dave! You should be very proud of the entire job, particularly the cabinet restoration! When I get to some restorations with my recycling channel, they won't be anything near as meticulous as yours! Cheers, Chris
Just landed in Vancouver from Shanghai and find myself up at 00:05 local time with a scotch and the Radiola part 4. Jet lagged but I don’t care! Another excellent, explanatory and educational video. Thanks David! Refinished many a wood veneer on radios. I apply the stripper, let it soak, then use wood chips (hamster cage cedar sawdust) and rubber gloves and give the cabinet a good rub down with the sawdust chips. The chips absorb the stripper and finish and don’t scratch the veneer. You are not left with a mess of stripper and it is easy to dispose of. A good brush with a natural stiff fibre brush for the cracks and moulding to get rid of the remaining stripper residue. For the dings, fill as you did then I use dark stain and paintbrush with a fine point to the ding making it look like a natural knot hole or wood grain. Best wishes, Geoff
The Aeriola/Radiola Senior is a beautiful example of an early AM radio receiver. I have designed a slimmed down version of its crktry - - no regenerative feedback, fewer coils.
This is one of your best restorations yet, holy moley does it look good! Art deco is really starting to grow on me, especially when a nice wood finish is applied and it shines like new...
Picked up some good tips from you Dave, the 50-hours spent restoring the Radiola to its former glory is a credit to you and hopefully you can enjoy it for the next 94-years. Thanks for sharing the brands and types of cleaners you used on the timber (enjoy the difference between English and American too). Told my electrical engineering buddy about your channel he's been enjoying it also.
The license in the cabinet I believe relates to a radio and later TV license we had in Australia , something you had to have or be fined if you were caught without one. 👍 What a wonderful job you did with this Art Deco gem, which would be better and safer than when it was first switched on 89 years ago. 😁
Hi Steven, yeah, that could be. I was told as a kid, if someone comes to the door and asks about radio or TV I was to say we don't have either. Bit silly as there was a TV antenna on the chimney. Thank you for your compliment 👍🙂
I had forgotten how lovely the cabinet was. You have done a brilliant job on this and it looks and sounds great. Nothing wrong with a mini-series if the payoff is worth it. Cheers.
Hi Pauline, it's a lovely piece of 30s furniture that still looks good in a contemporary home. There was a lot of work in this one so a mini series was the only way, glad the format worked 😃
Top workmanship David you have done as always and such a pleasure to watch your work on ur video's ,Very pleasing finished results looks awesome,The cabinet come up a masterpiece ,Well done .
Hi Nick, thanks. I does get a lot of attention from guests. It often gets comments like my "Grandma had one like that years ago" it brings back a lot of memories for people 🤔😃
What a beauty! And I have to say your cabinet refinishing skills are right up there with Thomas Johnson, and he's "Prettygood". Speaker restoration was very interesting too.
I've watched all four parts and I'm amazed on how well this project came out!Outstanding job, that's a fact! Definitely worth the time to hang around, glad so much I found this channel.
Definitely a labour of love that one. Turned out beautifully! 👍 Re that license card, back in the day Marconi (which morphed into RCA) policed its numerous patents and the associated royalties very strictly.
I really enjoyed this restore project. Looking forward to your next one. Very well produced and great explanations while completing each phase of the restoration. Wonderful!
David what a beautiful, beautiful, restoration, both electrically, as well as cosmetically. You must have the patience of a saint. You are so talented and I enjoyed every aspect of this restoration. It is so nice to have su h a gorgeous piece of history in the house for generations to come. You are an artist fine sir.
Hi Gregg, (I hope that's your first name) thank you, you are very kind. I will work my way through your videos as time permits. Your AK 55C radio was very similar to this one and now I'm back from holiday I can watch the rest of the series before a cruise next month 🤦♂️ Cheers and thanks 👍
Great job. You have perfected restoring both the chassis electrics and the wood frame. Because now she is looking great and is something to be very proud of.😍
Hi Le, old memories are great, all the bad is filtered out and we only remember the good bits. Each radio I do reminds me of 'the old Days'. Thanks Le 😃
What a gorgeous radio! There's nothin like a glass of vino and watchin old dave fix an effed up old radio. One would think that such a repair would be easy, given the primitive earlier ways of configuring sound, but this looks like one of your most extensive and pensive reworkings of such an old peice of technology. The only thing older than this radio you just fixed, is Dick van Dyke. I'm glad you took the time to keep it looking as original as possible and made improvements in the sound with hidden modern ways, but still keeping its originality and integrity. It was a pleasure to watch. I clicked on your face and found where your videos are, but you're right, I've almost watched all of them. Well there might be a couple more. Thanx Dave!
Thanks Tyrone. I have older radios and probably older than Dick. This was a fun project and many thanks to Blitz for sending it over. It now stands proudly on one of my radiograms. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos Tyrone, thank you 🙂
I enjoyed this very much. And don't apologize for it "taking so long". I was looking forward to each upcoming part. Your restoration videos are very satisfying, very pleasant. So nice to see these old jewels restored to their former glory.
I cannot understand anyone voting thumbs down on this video blog of your work. As to the length of the videos, well that is what we come here for, to watch and listen and learn, or simply to be entertained. Therefore for my part, longer videos are more informative and entertaining as well. Thanks for all you do, keep up the good work! Beautiful radio, and hats off to your wife too; if I could ever find such a radio and then was able to rebuild it so splendidly, i honestly doubt my wife would approve of my putting it in the house in any area beyond places designated as my own. You have this prominently displayed as it should be. It is valuable i would think but, especially after all that work and it came out so very nice in the end.
Hi Jeff, thanks. I don't get the thumbs down thing either unless it's a distasteful video, but anywho. This radio is a showpiece and it gets played and polished regularly. Visitors, when we were allowed to have them, are drawn to it immediately and ask questions about it. I turn it around so they can see it's inner beauty too. Thank you Jeff, my wife is a gem and she lets me get away with far to much, I'm sure your wife would find a place for this too 😀
A truly awesome restoration David.. Just one more job...A small brass plate inside with the date of the resto and your signature. There's a bloke on Ebay does great engraved brass plates..I know this, as the better half bought me one that she's going to nail on my coffin.. Looking forward to your next project (if the lord or other factors spare me).
Hi Pete, thank you. That's not a bad idea or at least some form of history identification. Is your better half going to personally nail that plaque on your coffin 😮😄 Fingers crossed we are both still here for the next video 😃
Looking very good... this one's a beauty. For the dings in wood: Wet a towel and wet the wood. See if it 'grows' back up, it often does. If not, repeat but use an iron to steam the spot. Sand lightly back down to flush after. Old woodworker's trick. Cheers.
David this is amazing in every way. Even when it is a complicated project you just push on with your eye for detail. This is a real beauty! Sending lots of good thoughts from Nova Scotia Canada.
Thank you Mary. This is my favorite radio, unfortunately, it stopped working recently. When I get a chance I will investigate and see what went wrong 🙂
Really great series David. Love how you repaired that 30's technology without sacrificing the original look of the chassis. That was alot of work. I would never have gotten it back together. Thanks de KB7ICI....Bill
I just finished binge-watching this restoration. Once again I found myself fascinated by it all. I don't pretend to understand it all as yet but it is all going in. Hopefully some day I will understand. I would like to echo Dave Jeffery's comment. Thanks for the over-the-shoulder view. I am looking forward to your next project. Cheers
Thank you Ian, I'm amazed at the number of people commenting who don't fully understand the electronics but enjoy the video, that didn't enter my head at the beginning, thanks and cheers 👍🙂
That came up beautiful! I wish I had your workmanship and patience! I'd also like to thank you for all the videos you've made, I only recently discovered your channel but it's quickly became one of my favorites.
Hopefully, you've breathed another 91 years of life into this old set. Create and print a craft label with your particulars and paste it inside your sets. Someone in the future may wonder who did all this excellent work! I just can't believe how well that type of radio works, having never seen one in perfect working condition. What a fantastic job!
Thank you videolabguy. I hope it lives on after I go, it's a beautiful set and as you say it works quite well considering its place in radio development. I might do as you and others have said and place a marker in there somewhere, thanks videolabguy 😀
Looks superb! That was a hell of a job and not only that but you made the audio quality better than new without substantially altering the original circuit and therefore the character of the radio. I especially like the satin finish, doesn't look over-restored.
I enjoyed your 4 part series restoring this radio. Thank the radio looks great!

It will last another 90 years now turned out Amazing and is sure to be a talking point for visitors in your home.
Hi Nick, thanks. I does get a lot of attention from guests. It often gets comments like my "Grandma had one like that years ago" it brings back a lot of memories for people 🤔😃
An excellent job, well done sir.
Hi again bob4jjjj, thank you 😃
What a beauty! And I have to say your cabinet refinishing skills are right up there with Thomas Johnson, and he's "Prettygood". Speaker restoration was very interesting too.
Hi Phillip, thanks. I still need to get better with timber work but I learn something each time. The speaker was very interesting to work on 🙂
Nice work - well done you !
Thank you growingknowledge 👍🙂
I've watched all four parts and I'm amazed on how well this project came out!Outstanding job, that's a fact!
Definitely worth the time to hang around, glad so much I found this channel.
Thanks Adrian, this is my favourite radio 🙂
Definitely a labour of love that one. Turned out beautifully! 👍
Re that license card, back in the day Marconi (which morphed into RCA) policed its numerous patents and the associated royalties very strictly.
Hi James, thank you. That was quite a list on the card. Later, manufactures purchased a sticker on Aussie radios to cover the cost of the patents 🙂
I really enjoyed this restore project. Looking forward to your next one. Very well produced and great explanations while completing each phase of the restoration. Wonderful!
Thank you bigaudioal 🙂
David Tipton You’re welcome. You do amazing work. I restore radios and TVs as well. Fun hobbies.
good job David we restored 2
Hi ACHF, thank you 🙂
David what a beautiful, beautiful, restoration, both electrically, as well as cosmetically.
Because now she is looking great and is something to be very proud of.😍
Thank you he's the Master 🙂
What a beautiful restoration, thank you for filming your journey and sharing it with us. Well done mate!
Hi Bruce, Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it 😃
Great series David.. It turned out beautiful.. I remember sitting and listening to and old RCA for hours when I was a boy. Brings back memories.
I'm glad you enjoyed the videos Tyrone, thank you 🙂
great job will look forward to the next restoration
Hi Angelo, thank you 👍🙂
Fabulous job David! I really enjoyed the journey.
Thank you ethicalfarmer 😃
I enjoyed this very much. And don't apologize for it "taking so long". I was looking forward to each upcoming part. Your restoration videos are very satisfying, very pleasant. So nice to see these old jewels restored to their former glory.
Hi BeingRomans829ed, your comment is very encouraging, thank you 🙂
I cannot understand anyone voting thumbs down on this video blog of your work.
Thank you Jeff, my wife is a gem and she lets me get away with far to much, I'm sure your wife would find a place for this too 😀
I really enjoyed watching you bring this radio back to life. Wonderful job and kudos for your knowledge and craftmanship! 👍
Thank you Rene 🙂
Many time watching your videos, i become speechless seeing your restoration skills. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Haha... thanks Manoj 👍🙂
Wonderful!
Hi Roger and Lynda Beall, thank you 😃
great job
Thank you Brad 🙂
You say you are not a cabinet restoration expert but you could fool me. Enjoyed your video very much.
Ha-ha... yeah maybe, I still need to improve on the cabinets. Thanks Way Old 😃
A truly awesome restoration David..
@@DavidTipton101 Ha-ha.. She'll only use my hammer to do it if she outlives me !!! Like Baldrick.. I have a 'cunning plan'. 😁😁
It is 12 30 in the morning but anytime is the right time for one of your videos. EXCELLENT job, I can only but hope to do so well! Thanks :D
Oh dear Wayne, you should really be in bed, thanks 😃
What an amazing and awesome work! Congratulations!
Thank you Ηλίας Κασνακτσόγλου 😃
What an accomplishment, Dave! We cheer your excellence and marvel at the restored beauty of that radio.
Thanks Jeff , it takes pride of place in my collection 😀
@@DavidTipton101 I should have added that your conversion from power detector to diode worked very well. The radio ended up sounding very good too.
The radio looks beautiful and sounds good, you did an outstanding job. I personally didn’t mind the length of the series, i really enjoyed myself.
Thanks for you comment holydado, much appreciated 🙂
It's a beauty
Thank you Simon 🙂
That is a gorgeous radio!
It's a beauty alright 984francis, thank you 🙂
David when the good lord was giving out patience, you must have got in line twice. Very nice work.
Ha-ha, yes, maybe WMUR1005. I should have lined up for more hair 👍😃
Hi, dear David
You are an authentic passionate!
My best congratulations for your fantastic restoration
★★★★★!
Thank you IVC, much appreciated 😀
Looking very good... this one's a beauty.
For the dings in wood: Wet a towel and wet the wood. See if it 'grows' back up, it often does. If not, repeat but use an iron to steam the spot. Sand lightly back down to flush after.
Old woodworker's trick.
Cheers.
Hi scofab, I've tried that before without much success, I'll give it another go next time, thanks 👍🙂
Hi Bill, it was a big job all right but it looks and works beautifully, well worth the effort 👍🙂
Hi Bumper3D, thank you. I'm glad you enjoy my videos, I hope to get better at them and improve my knowledge of radios 😃
The final part I have been waiting for this. Absolutely outstanding! It is so good to see this fine radio bought back to life! Great stuff
Hi Parlour Tunes, thank you. I'm very happy with the result, cheers 😃
What a suuuper Job 👏👏
Hi Arnie, thank you .🙂
Hopefully, you've breathed another 91 years of life into this old set.
Suburb restoration Dave your a master craftsman simply the best!
Hi Philip, thank you. The extra bit of effort paid off with this one. Craftsman might be a bit extreme though but thanks 😀
Awesome work David. I really enjoy watching your restorations.
Hi Don, thank you so much 🙂
Looks superb! That was a hell of a job and not only that but you made the audio quality better than new without substantially altering the original circuit and therefore the character of the radio. I especially like the satin finish, doesn't look over-restored.
Hi Paul, thanks. It looks good in the satin 🙂
