My chamberlain garage door opener kept closing/opening on it's own intermittently this afternoon. Ended up being a garage door remote that had gotten wet (was used /kept in a bicycle basket in the rain). Upon disassembly of the garage remote; a few droplets of water could be seen on solder points => intermittently shorting it out. Dried it out and it works fine now. In case someone else is looking for a root cause.
This is also a big problem that can happen I think I mention it in my description. I'm gonna pin this comment so others can see it if they don't read the description! Thanks for sharing!
My opener started opening like that after we got my wife's new car. One of my neighbors must have been driving by using his opener. Seems to have fixed it. Thanks.
Thanks for the video! What if your remotes stored on your car visor are brand new and you recently added the MyQ Smart Hub Door Opener and now the garage door opens occasionally on its own?
It could be a problem with Myq I use it too you could go through the whole setup again. More likely it is a faulty switch in the garage or if you have any old openers anywhere they could be glitching and telling your garage to open so that the batteries out of any old ones and see from there.
I have a sears craftsman old garage opener with SR code yellow button on the back. Pressing the button for 6-10 seconds is supposed to reset and erase all the programmed codes and any remote codes. However, I am unable to reset the codes and the led besides the button never goes off when I keep the SR code button pressed for 30 seconds or 1 min. Sears tells me that the logic board has to be replaced and is not something available since it is an old system. Is there an alternate way to reset the codes on the logic board? Please guide
Our garage doors started randomly opening and closing, it started in the morning and continued into the evening. Solution? Remove the transmitter from the dryer! Yup, a spare transmitter in a pocket went through the washing machine in the morning and the dryer in the evening. Problem solved and the transmitter still works!
Thx. Gave me the idea to check our remote. Turns out, my wife took the remote out bicycle riding in the rain and it had gotten wet. An intermittent short was causing the garage door to open/close spontaneously. Dried out the remote and everything works again.
Mine started doing the "open close thing a few days ago. I also now noted the door/wall switch would not open it. Thanks for you video, I stopped it, wiped the codes, and reprogrammed the remotes. Then, after about 20 minutes it started agin? Wall switch still does not open it. Wouldto More troubleshooting I guess.
Maybe your wall switch is the faulty part. I have also had the remotes go bad and open it randomly too so try programming one at a time and seeing if it starts again
Sometimes it can also be a glitchy remote or a glitchy button in the wall in your garage. If you have another remote take the batteries out of the one you use and see if it still does it.
If you have a multi button opener then you could program yours to another button. You want to go talk your neighbors through the process of resetting their garage door codes though.
You may have to reset the distance for it. It will be in your manual. If you don't have the manual you have to google your opener and the word manual then look for travel distance.

That’s my issue too. This didn’t start happening until I paired it with the myQ hub. Gonna try to reset the codes and set up myQ again.
What a great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it

Thank you!! I couldn't find anything on this.
Glad I could help!
This happened to my door a tonight pretty scary especially at night,
Yeah it's super scary to wake up with it open.
Same here. I called the police few minutes ago to check, and here I’m doing my research!

Hahaha thats awesome glad it still works!

I had the same issue. Does it mean I can also go around the street and opening other people’s garage doors?
Haha it shouldn't work like that unless you synced yours at the same time.
Fixed it, thank u very much!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for your video. I will try your method to fix the problem
Thanks for the video! It didn't occur to me that my opener learned another controller when I was programming it.
It took me a week of it opening over and over to figure it out. It drives you crazy to have it open randomly.
Thanks this really helped.
Glad to hear!
Dude you’re a life saver
Thanks for the video. Fingers crossed this will do the trick!
Best of luck!
So far so good. Thank you!!!!
Awesome! Glad I could help!
Awesome video, it helped me to fix my issue.
Great to hear!
Thank you sooooo much that completely solved my self opening garage door!
Glad it helped!
Definitely going to try this and hope it works before we go out and buy another motor 😅
Did it work for you?
I have a newer model and the buttons on the back of the machine are flashing after I reset it; is that okay ?
So do you have to reset the myq opener after this?
You do have to reset the MyQ after this. I ended up just removing the MyQ, it wasn't worth the separate trouble it caused.
My electric gate opens on its own sometimes. Any idea what s causing it ?
My garage door opener still open itself randomly after I did exactly you told , ( clear the code and reset on the remote, please help)

Replace batteries with fresh ones. That’s another thing to try.
Stupid door
Thanks for the help buddy
Glad I could help! We were unplugging the opener at night till we figured it out because we didn't want it opening at 2 in the morning.

Yea
Since redoing the codes it hasn’t opened by it’s self. Yet
Awsome ❤
My craftsman learn button won’t clear codes, I have held it down for 2 to 3 minutes and it never starts blinking
Yay! It worked!
Life saver
Glad I could help!
My problem is my garage opener is opening my neighbors garage door. I tried reprogramming my remote & it still opened it.
If you have a multi button opener then you could program yours to another button. You want to go talk your neighbors through the process of resetting their garage door codes though.
My issue was the remote was broke and the button was stuck. You can just program a different button. 😉
I have had that same issue before when a remote broke. I should have used another button and not thrown it away haha
Awesome. !!
Thank you! Cheers!
I reset it. But why it still randomly opens by itself?
The remote could be going bad. Try to take the batteries out and see if it still does it. If it does then you need a new garage door opener remote.
Thank you so much😊
You're welcome 😊
Awesome thanks
No problem! I hope you have a great day!
Grarge door gos down then right back up again!!!!???
You may have to reset the distance for it. It will be in your manual. If you don't have the manual you have to google your opener and the word manual then look for travel distance.
Not possible. I dont have neighbors
Could be a bad clicker too, I think I mentioned it in the video.
