Orca leaps in the air during dolphin hunt

- Incredible footage captures the moment an orca leaps about 15 feet in the air while chasing a dolphin in Mexico’s Gulf of California.
The video, shared on social media by Afrelandra Glez. Cibrian, shows the hunted dolphin jump out of the ocean, followed by the much larger whale.
The orca slams into its prey in mid-air, knocking the dolphin straight back into the water, as it continues a stunning vault high above the surface.

The logo wasn't in the way the second time it was showed and you can slow it down yourself.

@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent The dolphin was hit by several tons body at full speed (orcas can accelerate to about 65 km/h) - it's like a hit by train. Kandu the orca only hit other female with her snout during the fight, suffered a hemorrhagic shock and died - in the pool, so certainly with the slower speed.
That's the way killer whales hunt more agile dolphins, circle one and trying to strike it ; that one was missed a bit, but probably still stunned (swirled in the air by the force of impact) and captured by other orcas.
Melanie, just go whale watching ??? If you don't live in PNW, it could be a pain having to travel. But the whale watching cruise that me and my family go to is in Ana Cortes Washington. People from around the world come to this watching service because if you see no whales , they honor you going free until you do! It can be 10 yrs later and they still honor it (has actually been done before).

Think the Orca was a 15 footer if the smaller dolphin was a average 6. That orca shot about a good 18 to 20 feet into the air.

I really dream of seeing an Orca someday because they are probably my favorite of all dolphins and whales. I wanted to be a marine biologist but now I feel like I want to do something else

@@wormsquirms112 I think marine biologist study marine animals, plants, chemicals, and formations/geology. It seems Jacob is just interested in the animals part, maybe there is like something more specific within marine biology where you just study the animals, i'm not sure.

I’m 24 years old and I’d like to be a librarian and I’m still into animals but I can keep animals things especially with orcas an open mind to because I live on the east coast and someday I hope to see one. Not to mention my mother adopted me an orca for Christmas 10 years ago

A 10,000 pound Orca can swim up to 35 MPH (56 KPH), so at that speed, and it's muscle, it's just a matter of vertically changing its direction. Kind of like getting up close to a 747, realizing just how huge they are and then realizing it's going to takeoff fully loaded with people and then cruise at 600MPH per hour 🤔

it's crazy how something so big is so maneuverable and precise to hit the skull of a dolphin 1/5th of it's size
little wonder that even JAWS flees in terror when orca come around....many great white sharks have suffered the same fate as that poor dolphin.
That's about 9 tonnes of animal just casually getting serious air time.

That Orca could probably get even higher if it were really trying to jump! It was just trying to hit and stun the dolphin. Disorienting the dolphin and making it easy prey!
To jump 20 to 18 feet out of the water for a animal that is roughly the same size. Its a massive amount of power. Your looking at around almost over a ton or 2 being thrown into that hit. Even a glancing blow which that was is near devestating.

@Àlys Grant Orcas are dolphins, just as his male common bottlenose rival. You realize other species of dolphins don't get along with each other, including male common Bottlenoses killing porpoises, but not eating them.
