So I took the liberty of hooking one of these up today. Along with a 50 inch lightbar and two a pillar LED lights. I am a complete newbie! And this was extremely easy to do. All thanks to adventureDex for a step-by-step video that made this completely easy and rewarding to do yourself.
Thanks alot for the feedback Joseph! I am glad you used the videos to tackle a installation that you have never done before! Thats awesome! Thanks for watching!
hey bro...just wanted to say thank you for the work and vids you've posted. I've had your vids queued up a dozen times during different mod installs and you've walked me through dozens of issues I ran into. thanks!!
Dude! This is a complete game changer! I’ve never been good at wiring and I always get pissed off with so many cords. This solves all my problems, great job explaining things brother
I installed a SPOD on my 2005 Jeep Rubicon. It was an easy install an made the install of a new 17" light bar on my bumper a breeze. I liked having the ability to customize the toggle switches with graphics that compliment their use - such as a Zombie graphic for my light bar and a winch graphic for my winch. Makes hooking/powering accessories easy.
I have watched some of your videos and like the way that you do a step by step install with warnings about potential problems. I have very limited to no mechanical skills but can follow directions, and based on your video I could almost do this....except for the removal of the pillar panels and using the jigsaw to modify. Would prefer to install the switchpod with someone like you who knows what he is doing. Be that as it may, thanks for your very helpful videos...I have just subscribed!!
r g -Look at it this way, even if you botched the trim, so what? Buy a new one and trim again. Otherwise, you'll never learn. Learning by doing gains self confidence. I am guilty of the very same reasoning, that! And I am a lazy character! Cheers!
Nice installation video! The only small con I have about the MLC6 is the interior LEDs never turn off. Probably not an issue since the MLC6 has the LVCO but I will mod those LEDs to be off.
Good video. The mounting for the positive and ground on the relay pcb really look questionable though. It seems they would be very prone to damage from vibration.
Great video! The price difference is crazy compare to the S pod! I brought the new one which cost me around $750! I wished I had knew that Rough country was coming out with one. Would have saved me a lot of money! You should do a dual light bar or the Rostra Led Daytime running lights. Again thanks for a great video.
I built my own box I mounted on the opposite side right next to the battery ran a short wire for for the power source :) I like that box as well 👍🏻 good pricing
Great vid. I am glad that you explained everything really well. I agree on the cost of SPod. It is too pricey. Thank you. I did not see any ditch lights!
Thanks for the comment Larry! I usually use a snake to fish the wires through the firewall. It is up and to the left in the footwell. You will see a rubber grommet. Thanks for watching!
Just bought this and the new updated version has the ability to turn the blue lights on and off with a button located on the driver side of the pod, for the wiring though it still has the positve red cable and an another red one stacked on top of it. I wired the obvious one to the battery, but there isnt instructions on how to or where to wire the other red one stackedked on top of it.
Thank you for mentioning the things you didn't like about it. Blue lights and cutting the trim would be a dealbreaker for me. Hope they come out with a 2.0
Thanks for the comment! I try to make my videos are honest as possible! I recently learned that the switches can be changed so I will be changing mine to custom red switches and the cutting is the only small issue! Thanks for watching!
All RC would have to do is to extend the bracket a little, so that the plastic trim won't hit. One would think it's an easy fix; hopefully they take your comment into consideration and modify the bracket. Great video, though! Keep them coming!!!
It is kinda hard to tell from the picture, can you still get your tops on and off easy, looks like it is really close to the front center latch to keep the top down?
As always, great video Dex! I was originally going to follow your video to wire up my A-pillar switches, but this seems like a much simpler installation. I do have a few questions for you. Given the option, would you prefer to have your switches in the A-pillar or overhead console? Which do you find easier to operate? Also, does the new console affect your ability to operate the hard top latches?
Thanks Remi! To answer your questions, The overhead is great value in comparison to the A-pllar since it comes pre-wired and has a few cool features. like the low voltage cut off. Also I needed more than 4 switches so the overhead was a great addition. The overhead does not prevent the hardtop from closing but that latch is tight!! Thanks for watching!
That is a super awesome switch pod. But I'm with you regarding the cutouts and the switch colors. They should provide colored inserts so you can choose your colors. My pillar switch pod has a different color for each switch, which makes it easier to find the one you want. Regarding what you should wire up ... I don't know if you already have them or not, but I'm thinking of putting some LED spotlights facing the rear. Just not sure how or where to mount them back there. Any ideas?
Thanks for the input and suggestions! I might switch the switches so maybe the I can change the colors that way. I like the idea of putting some rear facing LED's for backing up and nighttime. I originally had some but took them off. Thanks for watching!
think I will wait awhile to see how they hold up, never been a fan of RC so I guess time will tell, I don't mind spending extra if I get quality but I also don't mind saving if good product so I will sit back and wait and see how it holds up over some time
Thanks for your comment, I believe you have a fair assessment however RC has really improved their products over the past few years and honest have won me over. There products are affordable and ware well but I cannot argue that spending more will get you a top quality product elsewhere. It all comes down to what you want to spend! Thanks for watching!!
great video and very helpful. One question is that the LED lights stay lit blue even when there is no key in the ignition. Is that true? Seems a bit strange that it is not a switched current. Thanks and keep up the great content.
Thanks for the comment! The led lights do not turn off. It does not seem to affect the battery in away. I have had it in my Jeep for about 2 weeks with no issues! Thanks for watching!
OK, here is what you should add. Add White & Amber wig-wag lightbar or small LED's for events or helping out someone on the side of the road. If legal in your area. Here in Colorado they're legal. Many contractors use them too.
I've watched the video couple of times and how did you run the wires through the firewall because the foam solution the plug doesn't fit . How did you get it through the firewall can you upload a video just for that or pictures because I bought a 2017 Jeep Wrangler and I'm having issues with the switch set up so far.
Thanks for the vid a real clean setup on your light bar you can go to a hardware store and get the anti theft screws that take a special tool too undo them just a thought.
Dex, Thanks for the great video, I referred to it often during my install however I'm a newbie and I'm not sure how the ground wire was run. To the battery? to a random steel bolt? Can you walk me through wiring the battery up?
Lol blue is prefect for mine. Your jeep is the same color as mine white with black top for me and blue interior and all extras including rock lights interior leds etc
10:51 it might be simple but my province requires off road lights to be triggered by the the high beam circuit not the ignition. So I would need to have a way to only have the relay trip if the off road light switch was on and the high beams are on at the same time. I also like my fog lights to come on with my park lights or factory fog light. It sounds kind of complicated but once you do it a few times it not so hard. 11:37 That is a good feature. 12:30 I would like to have them green like my dash lights. 12:46 Back up lights. Thanks for the video
Quick question! I'm new to this switch pod stuff and I just bought some awesome side mirrors like yours...😍 Well, I didn't know that it did not come with the switch pod .. so my question is, which one would you recommend for someone that doesn't have any other light bar or anything else? I just need one for the side mirrors? Thank you so much!!
Thanks for the comment Chantal! It all depends on your needs, the A pillar is a good cheap option but it is limited to 4 switches and a lot of wiring. The RC switch pod does with 6 switches and is prewired! If you can get the Rough Country, then I would say go for it! Thanks for watching!
I have 2 sets of Rigid Duallys and a light bar run into my a-pillar switch panel (pos, neg, and ground wires). With this, can I cut the wires down to just pos/neg since the MLC-6 has its own ground? Can I also cut the fuse out? Awesome video.
On the custom Switch set you had before you installed the kit you could have eliminated more wires by using a common ground And separate positive leads for each switch
Great installation video. Piece of cake install with your guidance. Regarding the product, I like it however I wished the mounting bracket for the switches was a little more sturdy. Other than that, no complaints.
When installing the switches, it looks like the top of the housing is open to water if you have your top off and get caught in the rain (at 6:42 in the video). is there a cover plate that went on after you screwed it in, or does it remain open on the top like that. Seems like a rain shower could get all the inside wet. Otherwise, this is definitley something I'll look at trying (unless you've found one better since this video).
Damn im happy they sent you this product to review. I JUST had this in my cart and was looking for an switchpod install vid because your old SwitchPOD video........ 😬😬😬 sheesh.. Dats all ima say 😂😂
@@adventuredex No prob.. And I just recently bought a brawlee (Done Right) LED light that goes on the rear window glass. That could be your nxt video idea. (Mainly due to the fact that i need help). I would really like to wire the Brawlee light to constant power and having the option of turning it off or leaving it on because it comes with a remote. For things like..... Getting drunk on back of the TG. Plz help if this is possible with this product your reviewing in this vid. And btw i like your name (dex) too seems like I've heard it b4..
I ordered the accessory for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler, however, I’m experiencing a problem. The negative wire to the battery has an additional red wire to it and the instructions advices to add a fuse connector to it in order to prevent the pod’s lights from staying on during shut off, and it also suggests cutting the red wire at the harness on the board and capping off one end. Well, needless to say my lights are not coming on! Either I did something wrong or the instructions is wrong
I follow you on all of your mods and have put many on mine thanks for showing how to do these mods great videos ur funny keep doing a great job am in Tennessee and they are interested in all the mods here the jeep clubs so thanks again.
great clear installation video. is one switch/relay/fuse on this group of six able to handle two 30W LED lights? is each 40A relay and 30A fuse pair capable of handling that? Thanks.
Can you do a video on the S-Tech Switch Box? Specifically how to wire the lights into the switch box. Most videos online skip this step. What do i do with the black wire coming from the light? There is no place to plug that into the S-Tech Switch box.
Could you splice multiple light pods to one relay? that way you can run like two switches for multiple lights in the back and the rest for the front? and also how would you wire a winch up to this? A whiches power cables seem to be alot bigger than the little pos-neg on the terminal. Thank you very much for this review, ive sat at this computer for hours trying to find an easier way to wire all my lights rather than making a huge mess of things.
Thanks for the comment. You can double up but it’s not recommended. The winch wires are unfortunately too big for the switch pod! Thanks for watching!!
AdventureDex would you suggest wiring the winch directly to the battery? And also how many watts can a single fuse take? Just curious on how I should wire these. I ordered one after watching your video.
If I wire my winch directly into the battery, would putting the positive and negative wires from the pod on top of the positive and negative wires from the winch in the battery port cause any electrical issues? Sorry if that's a confusing question.
Thanks for watching! The biggest difference between the A pillar system and the MLC6 is the source of the MLC6, it allows you to connect your accessories directly to it in one central location which makes wiring a lot easier and safer! Hope that helps!
In this video you mentioned a bracket for 2007/2008 and a bracket for 2009 and newer. I didn't see product options for 2008 or earlier. Will it not work for 2008?
when the Jeep is turned off, will the switch panel illumination shut down. it looked like the switches were still illuminated when you turned off your ignition.
AdventureDex hey you said this wouldn't effect the battery, but it just killed mine... Do you think it's because I didn't connect any lights to the source? I was planning on installing all my lights in a week, so I was just running the product on my car without any lights connected to it. Do you think that may be the reason my battery died? I'm not sure if once you have lights connected to the source then the whole system functions properly. Do you have any suggestions of what I should do? I really like the product and rather not return it if I can just prevent it from killing my battery again. How has it been working for you so far?
CROD The LED draw is so minuscule, you'd have to leave your Jeep sitting idle for a couple of weeks to have a problem. RC posted on Facebook they're coming out with one that puts the LEDs on a switch like that shall-not-be-named-but-so-overpriced brand.
Great video/videos bro. Question that I haven't seen asked, and wasn't covered in video- the latch that spins to lock the front part of the top t roof pieces that sit above the pod switch. Does it no longer lock? I can't turn mine unless I unscrew the hex screw. Ideas?
Thanks for the positive feedback. Yes, the lock will still close but it is hella tight! I leave mine half way locked and that seems enough to prevent any water leaks!
Just purchased this product because I didn't want to spend the time wiring up a relay box & trying to make it fit, also time consuming. Besides I wanted an over the mirror mount. My suggestion to Rough Country is to make the cover plastic, insulate the inside walls for protection against accidentally having the sides touch the positive lead when putting the cover in place, or providing a rubber insulator that goes over the top of that positive lead bolt. That's what I plan to do, Murphy's Law....if it can happen it will at some point. I'm a safety guy.
i had really high hopes for this..i ordered it got it all wired up and the 6th switch didnt work and the 3rd switch had to be on for switches 1,2,4,and 5 to work. also the led stay on when the car is off which i hate. the plug on the back that connects is pretty big and make fitting the panel back on harder than it should be. i ended up sending it back. i went with spod and spent more doe to have better dependability. i have the spod and its amazing but it was 800 bucks. This is really nice though for the price as long as it works. fyi the otrattw custom switches do work for this Rc system. i have all rc black series lights running to my spod and love them. i think rc makes good stuff but your mileage may very on the switches. great video
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate and respect all of your input! I think the main point here is cost/value. From my personal experience, RC makes great, reliable and affordable products but of course there is always going to be a more expensive top of the line product that some people choose to buy. I personally think that you cannot go wrong with $200 with warranty. I am sorry to hear that you got a faulty product but I am glad you got sorted out in the end! Thanks for watching!
Dex, done with the install. Thanks for the vid! My rocker switch lights stay illuminated blue without the key in the ignition. Are they supposed to go out like the interior dome light or do they remain on?
hi like your easy as fitting the rocker switches look like std ARB Carling rocker switches that you can buy replacement covers or full switches in four basic colours
AdventureDex I'm having the same issue! I just installed the switch box and I cannot get the latch to secure. Is that ok? Everything else went great! Awesome video! Thanks Bob
Dex I have a right hand side Jeep, because I live here in Japan. Not sure if this Rough Country pod will work due to my engine compartment being the opposite of a left hand side Jeep. SO you have any suggestions?
I apologize if you’ve already answered this question but I have the Same year jeep you do and I just picked up the Mlc-6. My question is where did you run the wire through the fire wall. Thank you in advanced.
Thanks for the comment. There is a rubber grommet in the drivers side footwell on the upper left hand side. You might need to cut a small line in it to push the wires through. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Oh okay thank you , it's cause i have a classic k5 so just like the kit and specially its made by rough country seems supports like for my type of still of driving
So rough country light bars come with a wiring harness with a relay and fuse so, can you still connect the to the Ml6 even tho the box have fuses and relays built in??
Does this product work with a Freedom Hard Top on a 2015 Jeep 2D Wrangler? It just seems that there is not much space above the switches to lock the Freedom top. In your video, you don't have the top on so it's hard to tell. Thanks...Bill
I ordered this and I’ve almost installed it all the way. On the source.. my kit did not come with any nuts to righted the black and red main wires on... did yours? Please reply! Thanks!
Thanks for the comment Niko. Thats strange! I would contact RC and I am sure they will send that out right away for you. Hope you get sorted! Thanks for watching!

I just got mine. There is a fuse tap to go to your accessory power, so the switchbox only comes on when key is in and turned on.

Thanks Daniel, I appreciate your support! Glad you enjoyed!
Very slick. If they ever release diff colors and customizable button, even for a little more money, I might be in for one.
Thanks for the comment! I am sure they will continue to improve the product with our feedback! Thanks for watching!

I follow you on all of your mods and have put many on mine thanks for showing how to do these mods great videos ur funny keep doing a great job am in Tennessee and they are interested in all the mods here the jeep clubs so thanks again.
since you have had this, have you been able to change the switches or led color?
Great Questions Robert! Yes, the switches are interchangeable! Thank for watching!
What exhaust do you have under your jeep? Sounds nice.
Here is the link! amzn.to/2DlYjG2 Thanks for watching!
Did you notice that the latch for you freedom panel is a lot hard to lock now that’s this is installed?
great clear installation video.
is one switch/relay/fuse on this group of six able to handle two 30W LED lights? is each 40A relay and 30A fuse pair capable of handling that? Thanks.
Thanks! Yes, you shouldn't have any problems with LED lights. I have blown a fuse before and replaced it with a large fuse. Hope that helps!
Great job, looks very clean! I wish you could pick the text on each button. :) I guess I am picky!
Yeah, that would be really cool! Thanks for watching!
Great video! I will definitely check out the MLC6 when it is time to add some more lights to my Jeep!
Thanks! I am really enjoying mine and would recommend!
So is the control box waterproof?? Looks like some big holes on the bottom
Are the switches waterproof? Not a fan of cutting the trim either. That's literally my only set back. I might cave after watching this video tho.
Bro learning alot of from your videos enjoy the contents keep em rolling
Fantastic.do they have switches on side of windshield. Would like that better. Either way im getting. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
nice video, the product like very good but there's no waterproof for the relay box or for the switch control
Thanks for the comment. The source is waterproof but the switches are not! Thanks for watching!
Nice install. Are the fuses on the terminals big enough to run a compressor for on board air?
Great install! I was waiting for something to come out cheaper. I'll have to save for one of these to test out. Thanks for the review
Thanks Kyle! It works really great and the installation is straight forward! Thanks for watching!
@@adventuredex is there a way to customize the switchs like change them out to put like zombie lights.????
Were each pod lights connected separately or as a pair ??
Yes the winch can go directly to the battery. The watts would depend on the fuse if self. Hope that’s helps.
If I wire my winch directly into the battery, would putting the positive and negative wires from the pod on top of the positive and negative wires from the winch in the battery port cause any electrical issues? Sorry if that's a confusing question.
No, this should not cause at issues! Thanks for watching!!!
Good video. Can you go into difference between that and the Rugged ridge pillar switch pod. ? Also great song what group?
Thanks for watching! The biggest difference between the A pillar system and the MLC6 is the source of the MLC6, it allows you to connect your accessories directly to it in one central location which makes wiring a lot easier and safer! Hope that helps!
In this video you mentioned a bracket for 2007/2008 and a bracket for 2009 and newer. I didn't see product options for 2008 or earlier. Will it not work for 2008?
My best advice is to check with RC directly. They can give you the best advice in terms of fitment! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I have a pillar lights, can I hook both to 1 switch or does it have to be 1 switch per light?
when the Jeep is turned off, will the switch panel illumination shut down. it looked like the switches were still illuminated when you turned off your ignition.
Thanks for the questions Shawn, The blue lights never turn off. This does not affect the battery. Thanks for watching!
so how can this not drain battery. is there a way to connect the back lighting to a fuse panel.
RC posted on Facebook they're coming out with one that puts the LEDs on a switch like that shall-not-be-named-but-so-overpriced brand.
i personally think cb radio with PA speaker its a ton of fun!
Thanks for the suggestion!
I leave mine half way locked and that seems enough to prevent any water leaks!
do you think someone with no experience in wiring can do this alone?
Yeah! Just follow the instructions and take your time! Thanks for watching!
Haru the Shiba Inu nope
Honestly probably, I think I could do it lol
Just purchased this product because I didn't want to spend the time wiring up a relay box & trying to make it fit, also time consuming. Besides I wanted an over the mirror mount. My suggestion to Rough Country is to make the cover plastic, insulate the inside walls for protection against accidentally having the sides touch the positive lead when putting the cover in place, or providing a rubber insulator that goes over the top of that positive lead bolt. That's what I plan to do, Murphy's Law....if it can happen it will at some point. I'm a safety guy.
Thanks for sharing!!
i had really high hopes for this..i ordered it got it all wired up and the 6th switch didnt work and the 3rd switch had to be on for switches 1,2,4,and 5 to work. also the led stay on when the car is off which i hate. the plug on the back that connects is pretty big and make fitting the panel back on harder than it should be. i ended up sending it back. i went with spod and spent more doe to have better dependability. i have the spod and its amazing but it was 800 bucks.
Would be very helpful if you showed how and where you ran the wire through the firewall. I don't want to start disassembling unnecessary body parts.
Is it a way to change the switches and or names to match the names of the accessories
Yeah, I will be getting custom switches soon! They pop right in. Thanks for watching!
Dex, done with the install. Thanks for the vid! My rocker switch lights stay illuminated blue without the key in the ignition. Are they supposed to go out like the interior dome light or do they remain on?
They always remain on. 👍🏼 glad you enjoyed 👌🏼
hi like your easy as fitting the rocker switches look like std ARB Carling rocker switches that you can buy replacement covers or full switches in four basic colours
These are standard size switches! Thanks for watching
are you still able to hook the hard top onto that latch
Yes, half way. It does leak so it good! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Just a quick question is the kit universal? Or is it that simple👍
This kit is only for the Jeep JK however It could easily be fabbed for another vehicle. Thanks for watching!
Oh okay thank you , it's cause i have a classic k5 so just like the kit and specially its made by rough country seems supports like for my type of still of driving
Hey AdventureDex can those buttons be pulled off so you could put on other ones like sPod has?
Thanks for the questions! Yes, they are interchangeable!
Awesome, thank you
If u haven't used the last switch already, hook up a semi or train horn, it'll be great!
LOL good idea! Thanks for watching!!
First time viewer never bought anything rough country but the look of the quality and that price point is awesome. How has it held up?
Thanks bro . I was a little confused til your video !!! Simple to do !!
I appreciate it!
How do you run wire connection through firewall of manual transmission.
How did you get the lead through the firewall?
Very cool vid! Is there anything like this for a Jeep Patriot?
Thanks for watching! I think you could mod it to fit your Jeep!
Hey my friend! Little question for you. CAN you change the switch so you can know what you turn on. Thank you
I know I’m about 2 years late, but the switch fronts are just rocker switch covers, so you should be able to swap them with any other cover.
Can you do a video on a wrap? I haven't seen any cool wraps for wranglers
For sure that would be awesome! Camo wrap the Jeep! Ideas! Thanks for the suggestion!
Can I change the switch covers so i know better what's lockers and what's lights?
Glad you made the video this is my next mod.
Thanks Ace!
So rough country light bars come with a wiring harness with a relay and fuse so, can you still connect the to the Ml6 even tho the box have fuses and relays built in??
I usually just cut the wiring harness off and wiring it directly to the MLC6. Thanks for watching!
Would you run a winch to this or direct run to battery for winch
So are you still running the same controller? And have you modified the lights always problem?
Yes, still running it. I will be doing a video on how to fix the problem! Thanks for watching!
Any issues with your battery? I know the leds on the switches don't turn off at all
No, this will not kill your battery! Thanks for watching!
