Can't believe the gushing tribute from the BBC Director General. He said, "No-one had more energy to deliver shows that put a smile on audiences' faces'......why did they sack him then? I haven't listened to Radio 2 in the afternoon since they sacked Steve. He was a great broadcaster and will be sorely missed. RIP Steve. Your fans loved you!
He lost his weekday afternoons shows, but was presenting Pick Of The Pops still in Saturdays.
RIP.
The reason? A white male.
Agree 100%...I too have not listened to radio 2 afternoon....This has really upset me.....RIP TOP DJ STEVE x
Yes head of BBC kicked him out of his afternoon show, radio 2 has been going downhill for years now,RIP Steve, will be so sadly missed brilliant DJ, brilliant person,so so sad day today,😢😢😢
Well said he deserved more but that's the BBC. R.I.P Steve thoughts with his family and friends.
Voice of my teenage years. STEVE!!!!!!!!😢
What? The IDF Are making horror movies in rafah, children hanging by limbs, crawling with their dying breath screaming for god, it's not their fault we have been so horrendously ignorant and obscene in our actions as the west, regarding the middle east.
Mine too.
Steve Wright in the afternoooon, king of the jingles
The songs and parodies he would do, and the jingles he used. My boring afternoon work hours flew by when he was on! I still remember most of his usual stuff, "Mr Angry from Purley" being one 😂😂😂 RIP Steve, will always remember you
Sacked by the BBC - hardly surprising - he was talented, professional and well liked.
Legend of broadcasting. Part of my teen years. R I P Steve 🍺

Finest DJ to ever to grace radio bar none.
I stopped listening to radio 2 because steve was taken off air. So So Sad. God bless him for all the years of laughter he gave us. 😭😭
Steve was the Adrian cronour, you know him who was the inspiration for good morning Vietnam. RIP STEVE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR RIDE ON MY RADIO 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️
During the school holidays (& after leaving school in 1984) I would always listen to Steve Wright in the afternoon on Radio 1. His carachters were always hilarious, especially Mr. Angry & The Pub Singer.
Unlike most afternoon shows on the radio today - which is just background noise that nobody listens to - people did really listen to Steve's show. I once went into a shop & the staff, customers & even the security guard were laughing at the humour on his show.
R.I.P Steve & thanks for some wonderful laughs ❤❤❤❤
Yep he would get so angry he would throw the phone down
@ashlibabbittcroakedit9108 it's another true story
@stevenoneill7166 Iam 💔 broken hearted
Sid the manager...Gervais the hairdresser..the football hooligan..the gay cabello.. can anybody remember more?
@matthewballard6399 Who was the guy that used to say "Yes sir Mr Wright "
Sad sad news grew up on Steve Wright in the afternoon, definitely Will be missed, god bless steve
When a celebrity dies it's the ones who knew them and were in their lives who say they will miss them but with Steve Wright he was in all our lives so we can all say we will miss him and mean it .
He was our friend.
Well said. He always made me laugh, he was like a family member in my kitchen every afternoon… so very sad
Very true, my friend 😢
Very very well put 👍

"Steve Wright In The Afternoon" was my entire childhood. His voice always put me at ease. I am saddened and shocked in equal measure. May he RIP.
Wow. A huge loss for UK Radio. RIP.
Grew-up listening to Wrighty in the 80's..... His afternoon show used to be on the school bus radio taking us home after school..... All the characters he used to do, Arnie, Mr Angry, The Pub Singer, etc, etc..... Legend. Always came across the airwaves as such a nice guy. Will be sorely missed. Rest easy Wrighty, you brought joy to millions.
A true hero to the people a breath of fresh air I'm done with the radio now
A great loos used to listen to Steve wright in the afternoon, had me in stiches, even sat in traffic you could see everyone laughing from listening to Steve R.I.P Steve
R.I.P. 1 of the greatest DJ ever
Definitely up there with Kenny Everett and Wolfman Jack.
Talented broadcaster treated badly by BBC
While certain other BBC radio presenters were allowed to thrive. Disgusting organisation the BBC are.
What? The IDF? Are making horror movies in rafah, children hanging by limbs, crawling with their dying breath screaming for god, it's not their fault we have been so horrendously ignorant and obscene in our actions as the west, regarding the middle east.
Say no more. BBC, ffs!
How so?
@@TheDriftdogwhat planet you on ?
Absolutely devastating news. He was the voice of radio. Such a sad, sad loss. RIP Mr Wright.
I'm so shocked .. so sad how the BBC treated him.. truly talented DJ
I remember when Steve started on bbc radio if ever there was a voice for radio Steve had it he was a breath of fresh air. He was up there with Terry Wogan as the greatest DJs the BBC ever had. RIP Steve you have earned the rest because you made millions of people so happy with your shows.
So sad. Never thought I would shed a tear for radio DJ but he's been there for me for 40 + years and will miss him. Ripxxxx
Only the second DJ I've shed a tear for....Ray Moore being the other one....sad day
I used to listen to Steve years ago when Radio 1 had good presenters and was worth listening too.
Steve Wright in the afternoon was a must at work, great bloke, great presenter, will be sadly missed.
Thanks for the memories Steve 🙏
Well said Vanessa, he was fantastic on the air. Good on you for not glossing over his dismissal.
Grew up with Steve on the radio from the early 80's. Probably one of the best broadcasters this country has ever produced , a genuine warm funny guy who will be sorely missed by millions of radio listeners.
The BBC broke his heart..... R I P
Absolutely gutted I grew up listening to Steve Wright absolute legend on the radio will be sorely missed
Millions of us are going to miss him so much.
He was an absolute genius & legend.
The BBC treated him appallingly and whoever decided to kick him out should resign immediately.
The best thing Radio 2 could do now is get rid of all the other DJ's and just play re-runs of Steve's show every day.
They'd save an actual fortune and the listener's would be very, very happy.
RIP Steve. The best friend I never met. ❤️☹️
Simply more than a DJ ..66 Yr old man followed Steve for years radio 1 radio radio 2 ..always remember the caricatures..he brought on the show ..Steve played the tunes and made us laugh ...you will be sadly missed ...
So sad news..All my driving years at ASDA..He was my afternoon companion 😢condolences to his family…No more Sunday love songs 😢😢😢I haven’t listened to Radio 2 since the BBC dropped him…and will never listen again..
This loss has hit me hard. He's been in my life since I was a teenager. Always loved him ❤ RIP
Shocked. I grew up listening to Steve Wright and he was one of the best. May he rest in peace.
The man who inspired me to be a radio presenter. Thank you, Steve. R.I.P.
I'm commenting from California, so never had the good fortune to hear Steve (or you) work.
But your comment resonates with me. I think most, if not all of us who worked in broadcasting for any period of time had those heroes growing up.
The disembodied voices out of the air that kept us glued to our radios, taught us new things about music, and as we grew a little older had us sitting in darkened bedrooms talking into pretend microphones as we constructed fantasy programmes around our record collections and dreamed of being amoung those anonymous, yet familiar voices.
Of course, those of us who actually got the chance once grown learned that broadcasting is simultaneously damned hard work and the best job in the world.
To you, and all Steve Wright's listeners across the UK and beyond, along with his colleagues and family, my heartfelt respect and condolences.
@@beachdog67 lovely comment friend, his shows were great in all aspects, music guests, and quick witted humour
I honour your talent Steve you made my Sunday will miss you RIP mate
We are all in tears here, Steve was part of all of our lives from DAY ONE and taking him off his afternoon slot in the afternoon made us all angry to be replaced with some 'unknown nobody'.
Every afternoon he made the dreay days bearable and sad days happy with his crazy zany crew with Janey, Tim, the 'old woman' Mr Angry, Elvis and all the rest...... well Steve Wright has also LEFT the building........life will never be the same again RIP DEAR Stevo. I expect he will be on 'Radio Paradise' tomorrow for those lucky souls who now have him Bless you old mate I mean that sincerely. Our Hearts are💔😭
ASK ELVIS was GENIUS and one of the funniest things ever on the radio, and radio 2 hasn't been the same since he finished the drive time slot.
I remember that! Hilarious!!
Absolutely
Dont forget Mr angry.
Dont forget Mick an kief 😂
Get the geese off.

I was listening to him as a kid in the early 80s laughing my arse off...and I was still listening to him in my shed in my 50s and still laughing my arse off...he remained fresh, authentic and genuine until the end....Will be missed

Steve was the finest radio DJ / presenter EVER!!!.
Listened to him for 40 years , his was the program our radio had to be tuned to every afternoon during the working week. The funniest characters and absolutely brilliant presenting.

Really sad news. Steve didn't deserve the treatment he received from the BBC. True broadcasting legend. RIP mate😢
I was really sad when they took him off, loved the show for decades. Can`t believe he`s gone. Was a reassuring presence and fun time in the afternoon. RIP Steve and thanks.
He was like a big comfort blanket, and brilliantly funny!
He along with terry Wogan were radio,no day will be the same,R.I.P.
Like millions of others, my Sunday ritual, 09.00-11.00am,listening to the craic, the awful jokes and great banter on Sunday Love Songs with Steve Wright❤️
I was listening to him on Sunday, just cannot believe this TRUE LEGEND has passed away, too young to leave this world.
A talent beyond compare.
BBC, like many other great presenters of bygone times, you treat this man abysmally, shame on you.
Steve, the world was a better place when you were in it.
Go play to the angels.
R.I.P 🥰
He would dearly dearly missed 🙏🏽god bless his soul , it was must specially “ Mr Angry “ My favourite was Steve Wright in the afternoon
Brilliant, completely unique DJ and archival piece of British cultural heritage and a part of the day-to-day lives of several millions of Brits. The news that he is dead is staggering and quite literally unbelievable.
I'll never forget my early building site days with Sid the Manager, Mr Angry and Mick Jagger - classic comedy. He did Britain proud.
His Mick and Keith impersonations were legendary!
😂loved Mr Angry! There was also a social worker character but can't remember his name ?
Can't help you there mate. But if you find it put it up here and I will check it out. Also good was Smashey and Nicey, who fortunately didnt have Steve in their sights.. @@gillianm9367

Thanks Steve, you got us through the afternoons with your show and characters! We laughed so much!
Mr Angry and Damion the social worker - absolute class RIP Steve.
I remember watching his final program back in September 2022 while at college. He was a great role model for several aspiring DJs. I’m currently considering a career in radio in my native USA, hoping to continue Steve’s legacy.
“Good Mornin’!”
Steve wright, and terry wogan were the 2 best ever, such a damn shame. rip fella. probably died because of all the damn stress the bbc caused hime a couple of years ago.
We love you Steve x
The best radio dj in my lifetime. Listened to Steve and the afternoon crew from the 1980s . Absolutely gutted about his passing. Like losing a family member. BBC should have a good long look at themselves for shelving him to a Sunday. Bloody criminal😡😡😡. Steve was that nice that he never complained. Sorely missed 😢😢😢😢
So so sad, had the please of working with him in a nightclub in Dover in the 80’s. BBC Managment are speaking so highly of him yet they were quick enough to sack him!!
Rip Stephen Richard Wright, you will be missed
Gutted, I grew up getting ready going to school listening to him. Cheered me up so much.
I remember Steve singing along with Fat Larry’s Band ZOOM early 80s, great bloke, met Steve twice on Radio 1 summer roads shows, back when Radio 1 was the best.
Feel like ive lost an old friend... so long steve ❤
Very sad loss, his Radio 1 show was brilliant. The characters he came up with were so funny such as Mr Angry and Gervais the hairdrssser etc etc. I wasn't so keen on his R2 show, but there was no denying his talent as radio DJ/presenter! RIP
Superb radio presenter , talented, funny and fun! R.i.p Steve 😇
Steve Wright only one word (Legend)👍
I am totally shattered. I spent so many years listening to him on Radio 2. I felt very lost when they took him off his afternoon show. The replacement show is very ordinary by comparison. I send my sincerest condolences to his family. Steve - thank you for the years of happiness you gave us all.
Cannot believe this! Such an amazing warmth and presence. Loved his shows on the weekend. A pretty big hole has been left at Radio 2. Rest in peace, Steve! ♥️
The guy was a part of so many teenagers life, great memories 🤙
Yes, my friend, including mine. He used to crack me up with all his different characters and his sense of humour. Oh man, they were the days 🕊🙏
