Great video Simon. I personally use the platform, I am twelve year old and can serve around 90mph on the first serve consistently. I have hit 102 with the pin point stance but I find that I lose consistency and have knee problems. However if you can consistently hit a pin point stance serve, I don’t know why you wouldn’t, It can produce more power. Another thing I noticed was that I have a better kick serve with platform.
The mental game and the negative impact it has when playing games. What ways do you use to overcome the fear that we sometimes feel when playing games?
Im a righty but I can serve ambidextrously. I use platfrom when I serve righty and Pinpoint when I serve lefty. It just feels natural for me to do it this way. I struggle with my toss when I serve right handed and find that less movement makes it easier to get a consistent toss. But when I serve left handed, I get to toss with my right hand, which is effortlessly more consistent since its my right hand doing the toss.
+1 for Gasquet’s backhand! Also, would be interesting to hear your perspective on why he seems to have changed it. I remember when he first made his breakthrough he had a lot more variation. Sharp angles, heavy topspin, flat 100mph winners from 2 meters behind the baseline... now it feels like he predominately hits loopy BHs and it doesn’t feel like it’s the weapon it once was.
For some reason, the pinpoint helps guide me through the serving motion because I seem to time other parts of the serve with when I bring my feet together. Idk, it just made more sense to me
That's good Gabriel, some players really benefit more from one stance over the other. Thanks for tuning in. Any videos you'd like to see from us in the near future? All the best Simon

Thanks for this great explanation of what the differences really are
The best way to find out what works best for your game is experimenting with both. Especially in matches, so playing a few matches using pinpoint and then a few with platform and analysing the outcomes. All the best Simon
4 serves & 4 hits on the cans (with no editing?). I'm impressed - I practice serving the same way but I can only manage about 1 hit in 8 serves on a good day. 😒 Who painted those lines... Call me OCD but I want to go to your court and straighten out the lines, and make the net post vertical. As always, thumbs up for the training, thumbs down to the line painter. 😊
I wish mate, lots of editing haha. I actually found out why the lines are so bent. At the club where this is filmed, at the start of the grass season, the lines are all straight. There is a big hill right behind these courts and when it rains, the water pours down on to the courts and moves the ground below the court slightly so the lines end up being bent.
I've always wondered if one could utilize both with a platform stance starting out, moving into a half pinpoint stance on the drive upward. By half pinpoint, I mean not bringing the R foot all the way to the left foot. But bringing it in only about halfway. Giving weight transfer and improved stability. Just a thought
I tried the switch from platform to pinpoint recently. However after 3-4 months, went back to platform as my toss was very inconsistent with the pinpoint.
Is it common with the platform stance to fall to the left on serve? Specifically after the hit when the left foot extends forward to catch the body. Fed does it in your example clip. I thought it was a personal issue because my weight wasn’t driving up as much as it should or the right leg wasn’t extending properly to counterbalance, but seeing Fed has me wondering.
It all depends on how you position your back foot. Federer changes his foot positioning depending on the serve he's going for. If the back foot is quite far to the left of the body line, it can drag the player to the left after contact.
