I think what this sheriff did was smart . He's got criminals thinking twice about thier decisions. I'm all for it , we shouldn't have to work hard for everything we enjoy for someone to just decide they want it with no consequences

I live in Santa Rosa county. It's a small county and it's actually VERY safe. I leave my car running and unlocked when I run into the store without a second thought. I don't know anyone that's ever had their home broken into. So I don't get why this announcement was made.

In the 80’s the city of Kennesaw Georgia was experiencing a massive crime wave. The city passed a law saying EVERY household was required to have a firearm. While this was completely unenforceable, the home invasion/burglary rate went down by 89%. When the Prosecutors and “Legal” system will not commit to justice, the populace must.

Most of the sheriff's in Florida are just like that and that's the way it should be. You have a right to protect yourself if someone busts in your door regardless of what state you live in

This old lady in my county shot a crazy guy who was trying to get into her house twice with a 12 gauge. Her porch was covered in blood but the guy managed to run off. The sheriff never could find the guy even after checking the hospitals in the region so he told the lady as far as I’m concerned, you missed him.
What I know is that blood wipes up easily from a vinyl floor using just plain water. I am a Florida resident and flooring specialist

I have lived in Florida most of my life. What this sheriff said is just basically common sense down here, it's not like we're thinking about Option B. Another favorite sheriff is Sheriff Grady Judd from Polk County, another common sense, no frills needed sheriff.
I know Grady Judd said the same thing this Sheriff said but he started about 2 years ago when they were burning and looting everywhere he said he encouraged his residence to blow the people out of their house. Sheriff Grady Judd is the best law enforcement officer in our nation! He's a man who truly cares about his community!

Greg, you don't want to ruin your hard wood floors with the entrails of an intruder but would you rather the intruder ruin your floors with your entrails? If criminals realized that they might go in but not come back out, it might make some of these criminals think before breaking into families homes, because what do most family's have, children. When you start messing with children, that's the quickest way to end up in a body bag.
Even knowing they may be shot, they still break in. What most do, though, is knock on your door, and if no one answers they assume no one is home. Usually they are correct. But sometimes the owner is like me. I don’t answer my door if a stranger knocks.

"The only thing that keeps a scumbag in line is fear! Fear of what you'll do to him! Nothing else works!"
And Tyrus is right, if you're buying a gun for home protection get some training in how to use it! It will do a lot of work for you, but it won't do ALL the work for you and it certainly won't THINK for you.
Same thing I learned in my youth about bullies. Humans at their core are not good, as naive people like to think, rather humans are creatures are creatures of chaos.
Fear & Awe is what keeps humans in line and if they have nothing to fear, they do whatever they want.

Addendum: It takes very little training to handle a shotgun effectively for home defense. Most crooks p1ss their pants when they hear that racking sound & see the barrel coming round. Even if, by some miracle a near miss occurs within the confines of a home, the loud kaboom & flying debris near the target is usually enough NO sane person will stick around to see if the 2d shot also goes wide... also, less chance of over-penetration, ready ammo availability, numerous options in ammo, easy to reload can't ever really be accused of carrying a concealed weapon, not even in your yard.
Really, If you are under 8 feet tall, 400lbs, people are going to notice the shotgun.. If u are that big, u don't need a gun. :)
@@davidfisher5140 Good advice. The only things I can add are even in the most firearm restrictive juristictions a shotgun is typically the easiest firearm to buy, so don't obsess if you can't get a pistol or revolver.
Second, you don't need to go super-big with a shotgun, at in-home distances a 20 gauge is good enough. It's easier for most family members to handle as well.
It won't shoot for you, either, regardless of what the left says.
The sheriff understands that when your life is in danger. Seconds count. And it will take much longer for the police to get there.
I used to live right next-door to Bob Johnson… He is 100% grit but one day he came to the house to personally warn me to keep the kids inside because there was a dangerous situation in our area. He’s a genuinely good guy.
I’m blessed to live in the Florida Panhandle and this sheriff is just one among many there that are like this one.

Well in Florida it was another sheriff when asked, "Why was the suspect shot 68 times?" The individual in question had killed one deputy and a K9 and shot a second deputy who survived. Replied, "That was all the bullets we had."

I live in Santa Rosa County Florida, and I'm just as proud of my Sheriff as I am my Governor! Two freedom lovin, common sense lovin, gun lovin, God lovin and liberal hatin gentleman, that KNOW how to do things RIGHT. They LISTEN to the people that they represent! So our good sheriff also knows, myself and most of us good ole boy's here in the panhandle of Florida. Know how to handle a gun and how to shoot straight. Just like my two adult daughters and their momma. I for one will, confidently defend my home and especially my family....without hesitation and without fear! And that is THE same way, everyone else I know feels about what to do when someone breaks into your home or business. Shoot first..... Then call the cop's and the ambulance for the intruder!
*Not to put too fine a point on it, however Sheriff Johnson's advise means "let 'em bleed out then call us for the tag 'n' bag work". Coroner report always costs county taxpayers less than hospitalisation and a trial. Cheers!*

If a person is caught having broken into one or multiple residences, in the vast majority of jurisdictions in Florida, that person is not going to walk out on bail the next day.

That Sheriff belongs in EVERY county

I love this sheriff...that has always been exactly what I intend to do if I ever catch someone in my house. I dont care if they are armed or not...they are dead.
