  • From an internationally famous Welsh/English family cricketing dynasty, Rees was a pioneering sheep farmer in the Lakes District. When the discovery of gold on his run ended its peaceful isolation in 1862, he responded with vigour. He became the founder of Queenstown and was known as ‘King Wakatip’ in the heady days of its goldrush.

Hi @AftaabSandhu - thanks for the great feedback! Other stories you may interested in (with a strong Central Otago theme) include Marion and John Wither, Nat Chalmers, William Trotter and Watson Shennan. Enjoy!
