She is telling a story with "The Other Side" about someone dreaming of just living and not worrying about anything. It's not about being a gold digger... At the beginning of the song she talks about how she's has a job and goes to work and gotta pay this and that. Thinking about living "the life" is not worldly. Everybody thinks about what they would do if they were rich.

He also just seemed to be more interested in the singer that was more physically attractive to him. Serious lack of depth... but he's young. Hopefully he'll learn.
