“The Other Side” is a really sad song and topic that she treats flippantly, the same way the girls who are pursuing that life do. It’s a really tragic tale that she portrays brilliantly while still showing love, grace and non-judgment to the women she’s singing about
@@eboyd2478? The album is called Heaux Tales… literally none of them are her lived experiences or thoughts. She sat with a group of black women who told their stories and she built this album around it
Fun Fact: "Let It Burn" interpolates a song called "Ready or Not" by the vocal group, After 7, which was founded by two of Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds' brothers. Jazmine nods to this in the lyric, "Cause ready or not, it's coming for you". Glad you enjoyed the Tiny Desk! Jazmine is an elite singer and songwriter!
I don't know if you looked this up, or know it organically, but I caught that when I first heard it. 'Ready or Not' had a very particular sound and style. Jazmine called to it, expertly.
I love Jazmine Sullivan. You will be blown away by her live version of Pick Up Your Feelings. Please watch it, even if you don’t do a reaction. It’s amazing.
Jazmin, at 10 years old, was the special guest at my home church in Philadelphia and performed and sang five songs in front of 5500 people and owned the room at such a young age. I knew she was a star. No one could touch gift, it's beyond what I ever heard, and Jazin at that time was a baby.

So happy you’ve done this. You definitely need to see the lock up your pieces performance live. Also, Chloe and Halle’s Tiny Desk is so wonderful. Please react!
You have to watch the video of her singing a song from The Wiz at talent show when she was a kid! Puts me in tears everytime! For someone that young to have the voice she had back then is absolutely amazing! I think the audience thought she was lip syncing to it before realizing it was really her and got into it, which makes the video even better. She is truly one of the vocal greats, I’m a big fan!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Dad is so cute getting touched by Jazmine’s singing. She has been singing like that since childhood. She is the gold standard. Google Jazmine Sullivan at 11 y/o and hear her as a child. God blessed that one!
I remember when The Lost Ones dropped. I was so ready for the Heaux Tales album. Jazmine Sullivan to me releases music at the perfect time, every time.
I love Jazmine down!!! Ugh so good to see you all cover this. Tori Kelly, her live performances are just as dynamic because she came up very similarly, performing from a very young age, etc. Vocal runs fall effortlessly out the throats of both ladies. Absolutely beautiful!
I think your dad would enjoy Ari Lennox. She has a new song called Get Close w/a music video. Lots of beautiful songs in her discography though with some humor in her lyrics too. She's a gem
I love I love that she wrote let it burn for the love between her parents! She recently lost her mom, I hope she continues to perform it, it’s such a feel good fun track about love. 💕
I'm so glad you enjoyed her Tiny Desk. Since you enjoyed her vocal range so much, another performance that I think really shows a great range and it's also a Tiny Desk, is the one for Durand Bernarr. He's fairly... eclectic, I guess is a good word, but the creativity pours from him and he puts on an absolutely fabulous show, him and his musicians and background singers.
I still can't believe that someone can actually sound like this, every time I hear her voice. 🙌🏾 It's like she's turned singing into a science and she MASTERED it (no pun intended). ❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad you got a chance to sit down and experience Jazmin Sullivan she's my favorite singer of all time. The first reaction hurt 😂. She is amazing not only vocally and lyrically but also in her chocies of sounds and textures along with the placement. For me she is unmmached.
Jazmine Sullivan’s acoutic version of Pick Up Your Feelings is masterful. She also has a song called Masterpiece which is amazing. She’s one of the most underrated artists/vocalists.
I’m so glad you covered this. Dad is right. No one can really cover her, but the song I find real singers…everyone’s favourite singers love to cover is “In Love with another man.” That and Mona Lisa are worth listening to on the channel. You’ve also mentioned Pick Up Your Feelings and all the live performances are different for that one.
I totally relate to dad getting emotional over the feel of the song regardless of the actual lyrics because it happens to me all the time.. like why am I getting choked up?? 💖 love this channel
I would love to see Jazmine Sullivan and Brandy do a duo. They both have those unique raspy voices and so much depth and layers in their tone. The theatrical side of Jazmine in Lions, Tigers and Bears can go side by side with the Cinderella version of Brandy. Both ladies are incredibly talented!!! If you haven't seen it already, please check out the video of 13 year old Jazmine singing at the Apollo, her voice was mature even then.
What I think I love about Jazmine which I think she showed in Lost Ones is sometimes the Background will sing the main vocals and she does the ad libs which allows her the freedom to go balls to the wall and impress us all. Sidenote: I saw Jazmine at The Phoenix in Toronto in 2015. AMAZING 🤩 10/10 Would recommend
I love Jasmine and especially this album Heaux Tales Mo'Tales. She introduced a new way of expressing some women feelings about love and life through music. Almost like having real conversations with your best friend about situations that have happened in your life. Where you express yourself freely and not using words to insinuate the situation, she basically sings what happened and her real thoughts. I can see where some people cant relate to the lyrics but her songs are real life situations. Its a very creative way of getting her lyrics out but entertaining you with the music even if you personally dont relate to words of her songs. Amazing if you ask me. 😊
I am so touched by your dad’s reaction to Jazmine’s voice. She recently lost her mother.. I hope she sees this and gets a little bit of joy. Love the channel! Can’t wait for the Beyoncé reactions 👌🏾✨
I just LOVE the both of your reactions. Jazmine is my FAVORITE and NO, there is NO ONE that can do her songs like this. She one of a kind. This shows how universal music is. Keep rocking on gents!!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽✊🏽
Jazmine has been singing since she was like 8 years old. At this point she is giving the world the vocal genius she has and continues to become. I am in awe of her voice and she deserves so many flowers. ❤❤
She’s one of, if not the most vocally complex singers of today’s music. Not only is her writing insane, but she tells a story even with just the tone of her voice. I really hope you two listen to In Love With Another Man and I think you may like the recorded version of Let it Burn.
I LOVED this. Jazmine is hands down my favorite tiny desk video and artist/vocalist/etc. But I will say I think y'all would like Yebba's Tiny Desk just as much. Her range and textures, etc. are really good and the songwriting is incredible. If you do listen, Dad keep tissues close by because it could be emotional.
Two artist playing back and forth off each other with runs and rifts is definitely intentional!!! It’s very popular in R&B and gospel! They did it perfectly!
I fell in love with her through watching this 2 years ago. I was going through a hectic breakup and my ex left me because I lacked drive. “The other side” made me so emotional for some reason because all I’ve done was work and I’ve never asked anybody for anything and to have someone leave me because “I had no drive” baffled me. I was and still am such a hard worker, and yes I might not be working a job of my dreams but I make sure that I make the most of the job I have. I am constantly getting promoted and that’s definitely not due to a lack of drive. Anyway the reason I love “The other side” is because it’s about a girl who’s worked hard and just wants a break, a girl who just wants to be taken care of for once. I felt that way during this period.
After seeing Jazmine Sullivan Tiny Desk, it immediately made me think of Durand Bernarr’s Tiny Desk. Please do his. Durand, his BGV, and band all were musical perfection. Also, he is a longtime background vocalist for Erykah Badu and grew up with his father playing instruments for Earth, Wind, and Fire. His talent and what he’s able to do with his voice is on another level, just like Jazmine’s.
If y’all saw her performance of “Home” from The Wiz from age 12 (?) you’d be stunned. How a child that young can have such control of their voice is amazing
If your dad is into jazz, you should check out her cover of a song called Round Midnight. She did it twice. One over a decade ago and again in 2022 with an artist named Adam Blackstone. They have 2 different feels and the newer one was jaw dropping!
I seen this video and went to the “Lions, Tigers, and bears” reaction to watch that one first, and this one next. It’s very touching to see someone that’s not of the culture appreciate (and even moved to tears by) a gem such as Jazmine Sullivan, who has been overlooked and under-appreciated. I love your raw, honest, reaction, and you have gained a new subscriber! Much love! ❤️🙌🏾
When your dad started crying at min 17, I totally understood why. My husband laughs at me every time I cry to a song, because he instantly knows that I must really love everything about the song. The first song I ever cried to because I loved it so much was "men in black" by Will Smith. 😂😂😂😂. I freaking love everything about that song. And I cried to a fetty wap song after that 😂. Over the years I have cried a lot more, but its not often a song steals my heart so much to bring me to tears. If a song can make me cry with excitement, thats how I know its a really great song.
Your explanation of the song she did with H.E.R. was on point. it expresses the collective feelings of women and more significantly black women and the ideals of society and navigating love and ones own sense of self. As a black woman I personally loved this song the most.
I saw her live at the House of Blues in Dallas and there is just such an amazing spirit off of her that is just... insane in person. I just cry every time so I get your dads emotion lol we grooved and danced and cried in the audience the whole time! I love that she turned "Lost Ones" into a praise and worship song lol
I want to say, your son loves music the way you loved music back in your day and. And this is truly a gift you inspired in him so I appreciate you both for showing 💗
I suggested Joe the singer and I’m sure he’s coming but after watching this. Another male singer popped into mind that I think you would 100% enjoy. Early Musiq Soulchild. He’s an absolute beast too the song “Love”
I saw her in Atlanta in October 2022 and I was in tears and shaking with emotion. She is so amazing live! And she had just gotten bad news about her mother's healthand was taking some time off, so it was very special. The whole crowd prayed for her as she got emotional.
I am OBSESSED with this album! I love all of Jazmine's stuff but this was THE album and I was so happy when I got to see her live a couple years ago and sing these songs live!
What I love about Jazmine is her ability to make such relatable, realistic and intimate music. She sings about things every day people experience - whether it's struggling to let go of someone who doesn't deserve you, or dreaming about money and fame because you never had anything growing up, she just makes you feel like you're singing your feelings out vs singing a perfectly written song. It's always so raw, always so intimate.
This has got be one of my favorite videos I’ve seen in months. Your dad being touched so deeply by her talent!? That tells me she isn’t recognized enough. If HE hears it and can get this emotional imagine what could happen to others that get to know her music?? Really my favorite video in so so so long.
What a great observation by yall on the last song "heaux like me". I felt the same way when I first heard it and it seemed as though Jasmine and HER vocally didn't mesh well together on the song. But... when I look at it in the perspective like you guys talked about it makes more sense. Anywho I was super excited to see you reviewed Jasmine's tiny desk. Great job! Edit: another thing I felt and literally seen it come over your Dad at 15:49 is that the content of the song was lost on me and unrelatable, but the vibe and emotion behind it couldn't be missed. Other side made me super emotional although the lyrics were, dare I say, superficial and hilarious. I told my Husband I almost wished the lyrics were about something else because the heart strings being pulled on in that song was unmistakable.
Jazmine’s band is SOOO immaculate. The absolute best live band I’ve ever heard!🥰🥰🥰 and yes its extremely hard to listen to the studio version of Heaux Tales after hearing her live.
She sampled After 7 with the song Ready or Not. With her version, she made it her own. That's my favorite Jazmine song. Its 9 years old. How time files. Its from the TV show Insecure.

I’m so glad you noticed the incredible back up vocals. SKILLZ people. Love it to the ground and back
Been a fan since “Need U Bad” so glad she finally getting her flowers now ❤ I love you guy’s genuine reaction.
Sis really out here doing vocal gymnastics 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️Jazzy out givin us musical life
I would love to see Jazmine Sullivan and Brandy do a duo.
I love that Jazmine makes Dad emotional. I have the same reaction to her. Her voice and lyrics are Brilliant! ❤
Jazmine is one of the GOATS - right up there with Lalah Hathaway. She blows me away as she progresses with her talent!
The Other Side is definitely my favorite song from the album! So amazing to see your dad feel the emotion of the song.
I just LOVE the both of your reactions. Jazmine is my FAVORITE and NO, there is NO ONE that can do her songs like this. She one of a kind. This shows how universal music is. Keep rocking on gents!!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽✊🏽
I love your dad, he’s so kind and empathetic i love him❤
Do her Acoustic live of Pick Up Your Feelings next please! Jazmine is the best hands down while at the same time being underrated.
There is only ONE Jazmine Sullivan! Be clear. Her range, tone, vocal choices, etc are UNMATCHED! And seeing her live is such a treat!
💯💯
Yes absolutely love Yebba tiny desk!!!
The runs, the scatting, Jazmine is truly one of the best singers out there
Two artist playing back and forth off each other with runs and rifts is definitely intentional!!!
Hi. Relationships are about COMMUNICATION. The fact that you didn't understand means he was talking BS and tried to hurt. Don't beat yourself up.
I saw her in Philly before she came out mainstream and was astounded. Philly has some of the best talent unlike anything you will find anywhere else ❤
❤❤❤❤👍🏼
Thank you!
Jazmine Sullivan has been under rated for decades! She is one of the best singers out there!
You guys would love ‘Sometimes I feel like a motherless child’ - Jazmin Sullivan.
If y’all saw her performance of “Home” from The Wiz from age 12 (?) you’d be stunned. How a child that young can have such control of their voice is amazing
When your dad closes his eyes and listens to her scat and then smiles ❤😊
If your dad is into jazz, you should check out her cover of a song called Round Midnight. She did it twice. One over a decade ago and again in 2022 with an artist named Adam Blackstone. They have 2 different feels and the newer one was jaw dropping!
She’s my favorite female singer of all time… I honestly think no one on this earth can compete with her toe to toe
I'm so glad y'all covered her again because I LOVE JAZMINE!! She doesn't get nearly enough credit for what she's able to do with her voice.
Jazmine Sullivan is the GOAT. Y’all should watch the video of her singing “Home” from the Wiz at ELEVEN years old. So much damn talent.
She never sings a song the same. Every live performance is different. Watch a few performances of "pick up your feelings." Each variation is prestine!
Funny enough yesterday we reacted to two Joe tracks, so expect that soon ✌🏻
My morning has been made! I’m so grateful to see you guys share this connection with the people who were captivated by this performance ❤
Good morning!
I saw her in Atlanta in October 2022 and I was in tears and shaking with emotion. She is so amazing live! And she had just gotten bad news about her mother's healthand was taking some time off, so it was very special. The whole crowd prayed for her as she got emotional.
Jasmine won Grammys off this album ✨💕😊 She’s incredible
I am OBSESSED with this album! I love all of Jazmine's stuff but this was THE album and I was so happy when I got to see her live a couple years ago and sing these songs live!
I thank God she won a Grammy for this! Jazmine deserves her flowers NEOW! Been deserved it if we being honest.
Her song writing is top tier. She's so funny and thoughtful. Love Jasmine.
Dad is so gassed and I'm loving it❤😂😂😂
What I love about Jazmine is her ability to make such relatable, realistic and intimate music. She sings about things every day people experience - whether it's struggling to let go of someone who doesn't deserve you, or dreaming about money and fame because you never had anything growing up, she just makes you feel like you're singing your feelings out vs singing a perfectly written song. It's always so raw, always so intimate.
I love when dad gets in his feelings 🥹 Lost One makes me cry too! I love me some Jazmine
I’m so glad you all listened to her Tiny Desk! Another artist I would recommend you all listen to is Ari Lennox.
Jazmine is just so amazing, she's simply unmatched. I won't even try to produce other words to describe her. My favorite vocalist ever. Period.
