      AI is sneaky in that way, especially when used in criminal justice. A software called PredPol is programmed to be unbiased, but its conclusions on how to deal with current offenders are based on how people of similar backgrounds were dealt with in the past, in which minorities haven't always been treated fairly.

    • @Jestrath
      @Jestrath 5 років тому +6

      @Jon Eric As a programmer myself and as someone who has studied computer science and machine learning, machines cannot and will not become self aware or sentient. AI is nothing more than complex networks of logic and statistical analysis. AI can only "learn" with parameters it has been given. It could be argued that AI doesn't really "learn" anything in the true sense.

But we dont expect for our information to be used in a way that would impact our civil liberties. We're expect that there are laws to protect us from that and expect companies to do right by their customers. But regardless of what we expect vs. what actually happens, we have to accept the terms to use the tools. And these days, it seems like not using these tools is becoming less and less of a choice. Even our employers are using social media and apps to find applicants. Convenience helps us get more done. Times evolve with our tech and it's much more difficult for those who dont evolve with it I think. Companies should, can, and some do offer opt out options for any data collecting services. I remember turning the mic off on my Google maps app once, and my phone would buzz every 20 seconds or so while I was using the Google maps app sending me notifications that block my view and interrupting the directions. It was pretty ridiculous. Anyway, all of that to say the terms and conditions are bs and we should let it be known that we want change. ✊😊

    I love alexandria work and the lady talking about false accusation and automatically lableing someone as a criminal based on facial recognition is messedup. I also predict that white men will automatically be considered "Innocent" when this kind of technology takes effect. I love Alexandria work and its amazing how much she can expose about our government.
    Also if you look like one of the criminals (Since there are people who look similar to other people regardless of race. I seen people who look like Tom Cruise or Chris Rock and so on). You will be automatcally label a criminal if a cop pulls you over even though you didnt commit any crime and just happen to look like them.
    Basically I can foresee that if you are white, you are automatically not guilty of any crime since this is built by white men and so it doesnt respresent the entire humanity. Discrimination at its best when it comes to this kind of stuff. Invasion right to privacy alone is already a crime and now the facial recognition used as a discrimination is really messed up.

      @@vicenteroj Well, no wonder why you support this absurdity since you can't even read. Watch extensively everything that AOC claims and then you may understand what I mean. On that note, I don't hate on her; I pity her supporters. Lastly, I agree that these gigantic online platforms are committing acts against the personal freedom, but I also wonder why nobody on the left talks a little bit about Facebook, Twitter, and so forth. Democrats or Republicans, everyone with a slight normal thinking must take a stand toward the total disregard of the Constitutional rights and freedoms granted to the common people.

Listen, I am all for regulation of facial recognition software, but don't include race or gender into the argument... that'll only act as a catalyst for the people who disagree with you on that (the other half of the country) to think it's all nonsense and continue to give more unregulated control to big tech.
