We need a game where you can't be killed by anyone but like, a small handful of top tier characters? Where's the challenge? Because anything else is objectively being intentionally obtuse for the sake of a game, and thus not a true Superman experience.
That's what Rocksteady initially wanted to make, hence SSKTJL taking place in Metropolis. WB wanted a live service game that would rake in more money than a singleplayer game which I hate because a Superman game made by Rocksteady would have sold way more. This would also explain the two heads of Rocksteady leaving just before SSKTJL launched and opened their own studio.
I watched my brother play this as a kid and i remember him saying "I'm sure this is as best we'll get for sometime with an actual Superman game", and only now as an older gamer do i understand. making a true to the character superman game would cost hella money and take years to create. if you want a game that properly gives control over every aspect of the hero.
Look at games like No Mans Sky and other indie games like Undefeated. These games could be combined and it could be done, but the time spent is to much for companies like Warner Brothers who want quick cash rather than releasing quality video games for their fans.
@@JAGuy That company has an upcoming game that uses the same technology from No Mans Sky to make a completely open world planet that is fully explorable. I was just saying the technology is definitely there, not that they should make a Superman game in space 😂

We all know deep down “big budget companies” find it difficult to make a “good” game about Superman because of how op he is. Right? For whatever reason I guess a game taking place mostly in space hasn’t crossed their minds? Superman has plenty of enemies that are stronger or on par with him.

@AverageJoeGlobeR it def shows it's age lmao I fired it up awhile back. The flying is amazing everything else not so much. As a kid though amazing experience
Honestly if power is the issue for a new game they could die down his powers for story mode like he probably died and came back and that’s how the game starts “return of Superman” you power up and get stronger as the story progresses in the end he gets his strength back and you can do more free roam stuff or destruction or idk space travel. They say the game would be too big but it could work. There’s no excuse !
0:30 because superman character can not be made into game properly. I remember playing justice league on ps2 in my childhood and surprised superman isn't that strong. so see? the problem is superman is too op. I don't think it can be translated into a good gameplay. character like saitama also alter his gameplay in game because he can just on punch all the enemy..
so, when I was a kid, my mom and dad got me the infamous nintendo 64 superman game for Christmas. it was so jank. draw distance was basically 5ft. but I ONLY have joyful and fond memories of that game. it's far and away my favorite superman game.
@@Lemuel928hmmm I’ll rather have that setting in a sequel rather than the first entry because people gonna wanna explore the Metropolis hub as Superman first
I think it mostly comes down to its hard to balance a superman game. how do you draw the line between the game having some difficulty and challenge whilst still feeling like you are playing as superman. Throw superman in a arkham style game and thugs should be dropping for a single hit.
Well one, you don’t make the regular enemies Arkham mooks. Second, video games are littered with overpowered protagonists. This has never been a problem.
Timed missions like rescuing a plane or train from crashing, or getting a bunch of people out of a burning building. Some villains can have guns with kryptonite bullets. Maybe even a mission where red lights have the red sun effect which would affect Superman's strength and powers. There's so many ways they could make a Superman game interesting.
well the important thing i forget all of people forget is that superman is still weak to magic. He has to also have some other villains that are his that use magic and possibly have magic minions/creatures to fight him, right?
Looks like we get to see you play Superman Returns in its entirety. I’ll sub just for that. As far as Superman movies, I and II (and IV) were staples of my childhood. Reeve will always be my Superman no matter what else comes along.
This brought back so much nostalgia. Used to sit and play with my big brother, flying honestly just felt great. Picking people up and placing them down on building tops then lasering them until they fall off was just pure joy😂😂 amazing how gaming has changed!
This game probably had the best of Superman flying at supersonic speeds. You could achieve four sonic booms flying constantly at supersonic speeds. The last one took more than 2 minutes to achieve.
We need a new game really bad. They could start with him as op have him be weakend fighting doomsay and then in time he starts to get back to full strength for a final boss be darkseid or brainiac
The main reason there isn't a widely acclaimed superman game is because theres difficulty in translating his overpowered abilities into gameplay as many see Superman as nearly invincible, making it hard to create a sense of challenge or risk in a game where he can easily defeat any enemy with minimal effort
Thats why superman returns (and other games) tie his health to the health of the city, newer editions could use this or storylines where he's taken off planet, or have a balance story where he needs to balance his life between superman and Clark Kent (for the story) or of course *magic*
The thing is health isn't the only way to add stakes. You can have it so you have to save civilians, stop property damage or have a reputation bar similar to rdr and the world changes according to how your perceived.
This unlocked a core memory. I loved this game for what it was when i played it i remember playing for hours everyday. I remember when i beat this game. I immediately started it from the beginning and played for more hours
Superman II Also... absolutely, we need a new Superman game. One that maybe capitalizes on the best parts of this game while greatly expanding upon it. One thought could be having Superman go to other planets, maybe using a planetary system like Destiny 2? Perhaps having a Morality System similar to Infamous that dictates how the people respond to Superman, thus potentially making the game harder if he doesn't keep himself in check?
Looking at how people play as Superman in GTA V, it definitely is a challenge to resist the urge to throw cars around and fry everybody with heat vision.
@@axebomber2108 Oh, I'm not saying that you can't. I think it's within everyone's impulse to at least go the "bad route" once just for the fun of it. BUT the story does change somewhat when you do so. Lex has the "backing" to make Kryptonite weapons, perhaps the Justice League gets involved in some way, all culminating towards Superman having a legit health bar instead of being impervious with a "city health bar/reputation meter" like in Superman Returns. So either way, you WILL be challenged, just depends on how.
Superman has just a rich mythology as Batman. But because it hasn't been explored in movies, I think people presume Superman is limited in what story to tell.
It’s kind of telling that the first Superman show out of the gate was just Superman vs crooks whereas the first Batman show out of the gate was Batman vs his actual rogue gallery.
The movie, Superman Returns, takes place just after the events of Superman II. Clark went off world when scientists discovered that Krypton may have survived. It didn't. In the movie, Superman returns to Earth in that gray suit. Clark was gone for a few years.
They did have a few open world Hulk games on PS2 similar to this and the Spiderman games of that era. Sega handle the hulk game if I'm not mistaken. There was another Hulk game called ultimate destruction too that was more based on the comics than the movie
Superman vs the Elite is my favorite Superman movie. It shows the character is a really hopeful way and also sees how he battles modern day cynicism. The speech that Superman gives at the end is the reason he is and always will be the world’s greatest superhero.
As a dev and 3D artist I can tell you what my challenges would be. 1st. "The Superman Problem" Making Invincibility Fun. Superman's immense power, near invincibility, and diverse abilities (flight, super speed, heat vision, etc.) make balancing gameplay extremely difficult because Superman is OP. Most game mechanics rely on vulnerability or skill progression, but Superman starts as a god tier OP character right out of a Chinese Donghua, leaving little room for growth or meaningful threats (besides a few but nothing that can last entire scenes in today's world of gaming (open world gameplay). Which takes me to my second potential challenge. "Open World Expectations" A Superman game needs a massive, destructible world to allow him to fly at super speed and interact with environments dynamically. Building such an expansive world is a costly and technical challenge, especially with modern player expectations for realism and detail. Additionally, making Superman’s flight feel natural and exciting, while still being fun for non superpowered characters (if included), is a tall order. Unreal Engine, Nanite and better chaos physics can get us there, but I don't think it would be up to the expectations of the player. Batman and Spiderman has now set a REALLY high bar for Superhero games as well. Superman doesn't lend himself to stealth or grounded combat as Batman does, nor does he have Spiderman's traversal challenges adding to depth and mechanics. It’s tough to create a compelling narrative with stakes for a character as powerful as Superman. His lack of real weakness (beyond Kryptonite and rare foes) makes it difficult to craft tension or make losses feel significant. Earlier Superman games (Superman 64 being a notorious example) were critically panned, creating a stigma around Superman in gaming. Publishers may hesitate to risk large investments in a property with a troubled history as well. There will also be legal and licensing issues. The Superman IP, owned by DC Comics and Warner Bros., will involve complex licensing negotiations. Warner Bros. Interactive likely prioritizes properties they know will generate a return, such as Batman or Harry Potter because of Superman's poor history in gaming (stemming back to Atari...). Fans expect a Superman game to be perfect. Anything less than a flawless experience would invite widespread criticism, especially in today’s era of social media and viral gaming reviews. Is it possible with recent game advancements and even a new Superman movie Title that is already getting positive publicity? Absolutely. But a game studio would probably have to pay for IP , Build a game, do product testing in a local Alpha testing situation and bring the results to Warner Bros and DC to get approval which would be a massive investment with no guarantee. Warner Bros. owns the Superman IP as part of DC Comics. To use Superman in a game, a developer or publisher would negotiate a licensing fee, which could range from $1 million to $10 million or more, depending on the scope and exclusivity of the deal. If the game is successful, Warner Bros and DC will take 10-30%. There is a lot that goes in to it.
i was about to say something similar. Superman imo, just won't work as a game, not anymore that is. Just like Hulk wouldn't work. They're too op, and they're main abilities (or ones very similar) are already done in mods in games like GTA. Flying isn't special anymore, or at least it's not unique, when any game that's moddable lets you fly or have powers. There would need to be limits. Batman's Arkham games work because he's human. Spiderman works because his traversal system and powers aren't OP. If I had a Superman game with modern graphics, flying, heat vision, etc, 20 years ago, before I was a serious gamer with a PC, before the market was flooded with all kinds of games where people have powers, I'd be crazy for it. But I'm already playing a game where i can freeze things, fly, set things aflame, have x-ray vision, and invulnerability, and that's just from a Minecraft modpack. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I just don't see it working.
@ absolutely agree. Glad there are other critical thinkers out there. Usually my rants get negative replies from “fan boys” who either don’t understand the market or by “gamer” they mean they play Fortnite on the weekends.
Death and return of superman for the SNES was a lot of fun. Playing as Eradicator, Steel and Cyborg was new and very entertaining. I am stoked as hell for the new movie, Gunn did his research and the supes vibe remind us all of Reeve's portrayal of Big Blue.
If you continuously hold R1 you will eventually reach Mach 3-4 which is the fastest he can fly in this game but all the sounds will go away and he’ll be really hard to control. Loved playing this game when I was a kid
I remember playing this and really liking how Superman doesn't have a health bar because he's basically indestructible and that instead it's Metropolis which has a health bar.
This was a very kool game, albeit a little repetitve. It had a lot of potential and a re-make could really be great. Just add more variety to the enemies, story, and challenges, and more detail and "life" to Metroplois itself.
we actually need a super man game where he actually starts getting all his super powers as the game progresses and gets stronger and stronger as he grows up .
If we're gonna get a real modern Superman game, especially if it's going to be all free, roam, then we need to be able to flying into space and back down to earth in mere seconde whenever we want to. Because it's very, extremely stupid to not have that kind of thing in a Superman game. Where he can literally propel up and back.
I could see them doing like a combination of procedural generation and a few static locations like Metropolis and Smallville. If that’s even possible. Just have procedural generation for all the planets in the solar system and all the cities, towns and wilderness in between the known DC cities.
We need a superman game with the same love as arkham knight. Imagine with a large open world metropolis. Instead of a gadget wheel you get a power wheel. You get his rogues gallery but his main villain is luthor or braniac. The fact we haven't gotten one in so long is crazy
This game is KRONICK. Played it back in the day. Only for Xbox 360 and it might be on PC. It DEFINITELY worth a playthrough. Lots of combos, SUPER abilities on top of normal abilities. THE games ILL.
We have a Marvel Avengers game, as well as games based on individual DC and Marvel characters, but we still don't have a Superman game. Awesome graphics and action-packed! This was, in my opinion, the best game they had ever developed, and there was no hint of any Superman game after. With our current technology, we definitely need a Superman game!
Honestly they could make a son of superman game where clark is dead from like darksied or something. Then you play as his son trying to get up to his fathers level, getting a hold on his powers and heritage, with karma options to go an evil superboy route
I feel like it's just hard to get fun and intuitive game mechanics for a superman game that makes it feel genuine but also not too cheap. It's tough when the character is invulnerable
The reason there are not more Superman games is because the character does not loan himself well to game mechanics. He's impervious to all damage but there has to be threats to overcome. If Batman or Spider-Man just stand there they can be killed by anybody. But if they don't have kryponite they can't do any harm to Superman regardless of his actions or even inactions. He flies fast af. But if you look at a game like Spider-Man which already is pushing the processing power of modern hardware, you can see that being able to fly around as fast as Superman does is a bit much to ask for. Hopefully one day somebody figures out how to get around these problems and others I haven't mentioned to give us an experience on par with the Batman Arkham series but I won't hold my breath. It would be nothing short of amazing if someone could pull it off.

If War World doesn't have a Yellow Sun. Superman is in trouble.
I remember playing this all time after finish the game. Just flying around save the city.
you have 1k likes in a day soo yeah fulll walkthrough yay!!
4:09 okay😩💅
😭😭
Lol why sad faces?
@@beekarinsaan it was funny I should’ve used “😂”
7:35 we got it bro.
The only video game where I really felt like I was playing as Superman was the Superman arcade game.
Remember you can lock on a target with L2…. Btw I subscribed 👍
I really liked the Superman Returns game.
This game was actually brilliant for the year it came out. I did it several times. Will have to replay it as still got it.
14:00 its some kind of bug or different version, because buildings in this game are much better, you can watch a video or screenshots by yourself
What would be the challenges in a Superman game? Does every villain have access to Kryptonite?
There are many...doomsday...darkside...brainiac...do you not read comics?
This was my favorite game as a kid! Wish they made a sequel
I remember enjoying this game when it came out. It's a bit repetitive, but I think they should use this game as a template for a new one.
we actually need a super man game where he actually starts getting all his super powers as the game progresses and gets stronger and stronger as he grows up .
Rockstar made all those incredible Batman Arkham games, they could definitely make a good Superman game.
A Justice league game like they did with avengers would be fire
16 hours and already 600 likes. Should have set the goal higher my dude.
Played this game a bunch. It was AMAZING.
We need a superman game with the same love as arkham knight. Imagine with a large open world metropolis. Instead of a gadget wheel you get a power wheel. You get his rogues gallery but his main villain is luthor or braniac. The fact we haven't gotten one in so long is crazy
Full walkthrough huh, good luck man
I remember playing this as a kid on my ps2. It was the hardest game I had ever played and I never finished it. Fond memories of it though.
Christopher Reeves' Superman 2 with Zod and the other Kryptonians is my favorite... Man of Steel is a close second!
1:11 My Fav Superman Movie Has To Be, "Superman Returns" Cuz-- Brandon Routh
Yeah I really like that one too, ive never understood the hate for that movie 🤔
My favourite too
Need that walkthrough in my veins
Megaton Rainfall managed to show us a glimpse of an overpowered being capable of super flight is possible.
I remember playing this growing up on the XBOX
Loved the game just to fly around
nooo i actually loved this game as a kid
i dont care what other people say about this game i love it so much
My personal faves are original Superman and Superman returns :)
Man of Steel is my all time favorite
Definitely hit 1k likes andcc BBC a new sub keep it up
WE REALLY NEED A SUPERMAN GAME DESPERATELY
Why not use superman mod in gta5
I still like that superman movie and all but I'm definitely going to see the new movie In cinema and I'm in Ireland it's called omniplex
i have this on my original xbox, its pretty good at the time, open world
This game is KRONICK. Played it back in the day. Only for Xbox 360 and it might be on PC. It DEFINITELY worth a playthrough. Lots of combos, SUPER abilities on top of normal abilities. THE games ILL.
My favorite superman film is Batman v Superman. Loved the duel of ideologies! MoS is good too.
Been watching you for 6 years
i very vividly remember playing this lol
I remember playing this game, my favorite part was the gladiator stage
The man of steel game is also a great action superman game. Sad no one remembers it.
Megaton Rainfall makes you feel like Superman
i used to play this game for hours as a kid🙏🏾😂😂😂
We need a superman open world game for real
Honestly they could make a son of superman game where clark is dead from like darksied or something. Then you play as his son trying to get up to his fathers level, getting a hold on his powers and heritage, with karma options to go an evil superboy route
This looks like a modded Spiderman2 for PS2. Same font and everything. Would have loved to play this game 😎
This game and prototype were fire
Supes lookin like a viltrumite with the white suit 😂
“Zack Snyder’s Superman” never lasers any buildings😂 That was General Zod destroying the city
A Green Lantern game with the Nemesis System would fire
I feel like it's just hard to get fun and intuitive game mechanics for a superman game that makes it feel genuine but also not too cheap. It's tough when the character is invulnerable
This is a pretty cool game
A superman game could be a real open world or universe, imagine you could go to space and around the world to save people!
