    Well I really screwed up when I sold my Ampeg Sub-Blaster Octave Bass pedal. I meant to replace it but it got discontinued. It was by far the BEST bass octave I had ever played. I swear to God it tracked a de-tuned low D on my Jazz bass if I kept the bridge p/u all the way up. I think this MXR may be the only thing reasonable to now replace my lost Ampeg. This is a superb demo here.
    btw--flatwound strings sound really awesome with an octave pedal. Very smooth and creamier than roundwounds

    Wow Uriah great video. Thanks. You really helped showing the tracking stability. Obviously you know your stuff - I have tried loads of (mainly digital) octaves only to get flipped off by wavering low notes. Its sick to see you track a low E! It must sound crazy low at your house.
    Great playing and good attitude this really helps as I have never seen this pedal before. Keep up the good work!

    that's true. Actually what I ended up doing was recording a loop. I simply tuned my bass low( like almost rattle like) and played through. then played the same phrase at normal ( well I tune to b flat) and it's pretty awesome and I didn't need an octave pedal at all lol. thank you for the input :)

    It looks to be a Lakland Joe Osborne - it's pretty close to a "standard" Jazz bass body style, while the Darryl Jones is more of a "Modern" Jazz Bass shape with extended cutaways and horns, and a downsized body like a Sadowsky 24-fret 4 & 5-strings, or Mike Lull's Modern 4XL or 5.

    I put Fuzz and disto After other pedals, but you should experiment and try both ways.

  • @udawggy
    @udawggy  15 років тому

    Most the sound is the way you play. The rest is the set up of the bass. I keep it set up for a bit of fret buzz, which makes it easy to sound strong when you dig in hard. John Entwhistle from The Who does this finger slap type thing too.

    Hey uriah! great stuff ur showing here, bro! Ive been desired a EBS octaver for a long time, but this sound is KILLER!
    but man, ur handlin a Q-Tron on this video. I liked the MXR envelope too, but the Q-Tron is a classic, isnt it?

  • @udawggy
    @udawggy  14 років тому

    @adurgaram That's my fav cab- I've had it since 1995. It's an Eden D410T (not the D410XLT). It has one port on the back rather than the bigger rectangular ports on the front like the XLT. The speakers are Tune Tubby Super Boys. This is the best bass cab I've ever heard- for me.

  • @CptChaos88
    @CptChaos88 11 років тому

    Hey! I have this pedal, and the tracking is really great, also compared to other octavers. But if you're looking for consistancy in tone (means an octavated note that lasts longer than a second) this pedal tracks perfectly to the low G (on some basses to the F#) on the E string. lower notes aren't tracked very well, just on very short notes...
    hope it helped!

  • @GharmanNL

  • @udawggy

    @Tooltrocity This is a USA Joe Osborne Lakland with Lakland pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 I had them put in. I LOVE my Laklands- 2 USA, and two Skylines... All Da Bomb-diggity!

  • @udawggy
    @udawggy  11 років тому +1

    Of course you're talking experimentally now... Even if it tracked do you have ears that could hear those frequencies? Gear that can reproduce those frequencies? In terms of real-world use in a gigging situation... You won't need any octaver to go that low. Best thing is to try it yourself!

  • @udawggy
    @udawggy  14 років тому

    @200909will I like everything at noon. For a more electronic or dubby sound though, I'll bring the dry signal down between 12 & 9oclock. I also like the mid shift button in to help cut thru.

  • @udawggy
    @udawggy  11 років тому

    Because when you do video editing, there's no rule that says you must use the same clips audio. I was able to show a cool live clip, and put in a recognizable hook.

  • @udawggy
    @udawggy  15 років тому

    I use a pedalboard on a very small percentage of gigs, and other than the cool effects on there, the tone is usually WORSENED- not enhanced. The most consistency in someone's tone, I've noticed, is in the hands & fingers.

    5:13 Is "flobbery" even a word?!? If not, it should be now. Damn you Uriah Duffy!! (shakes fist at sky) - between yours and Bryan Beller's videos I *had* to spring for an MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter, and I had just upgraded my chorus to a T-Rex unit, grabbed a custom "Loop-Master" loop-switcher that was on sale (they *never* are) and the guts of my main basses wired up with new preamps and pickups (Custom-wound Nordstrand Big Singles and Aguilar OBP-3s)... now you expect me to by this?!? ;-)

    Nah- I only use the Wide Black Planet Waves straps. The Mono ones (not in this vid) are awesome, but not slippery enough for me swingin the bass around and shite. If you're not doing circus tricks with the bass, it may be for you.

  • @BassGojira
    @BassGojira 15 років тому

    1) An octave below notes lower than a low E? I bet you have a kick-ass amp!
    2) I doubt it, since most analog octave pedals cannot do this. EBS claims that their latest version can, but I couldn't get it to work. The POGs can do chords, but the tone is sterile.

    Shit! To the person that posted last... I accidentally erased your comment- sorry- I was trying to reply. You stated I probably go thru a bunch of other stuff to get my tone, but that is very incorrect. All the pedals displayed are on bypass (actually TRUE-bypass, with the exception of the wah), and the octave is engaged as that's what I'm talking about in the vid.
