Great lesson. Breaking it into eight parts makes it so much more accessible. Have loved this intro since it came out, but never had the audacity to try it. Your clear explanations and repeated demonstrations of each lick have opened the door for me. After playing guitar for 50 years I am only now starting to realize that so many of the great solos of rock are well within the physical abilities of most guitarists-it's simply a matter of finding a tutor who can break it down into its individual phrases. The toughest part isn't playing the actual notes-it's memorizing each lick and taking the time to meld them together into a whole. Your lesson here is the best I've found for "Don't Take Me Alive." I'll be spending lots of time with your video in the coming weeks. Great job, and thank you. Just wish UA-cam had been around 50 years ago!
I've watched several vids trying to get ahold of this lick but you finally help me nail it, your an awesome teacher! Cheers! THANK YOU :)
No words. I like to use online lessons like these to save me hours of time when learning intricate solos. This was by far the best tutorial I have ever come across. Almost every one I have ever used in the past has had at least SOMETHING wrong with it. Sometimes, I find two or three different instructors and take what is right from each. Invariably, I will have to make my own changes. This one was flawless in every way. Not only were all the notes correct, but your style of teaching was the perfect pace and approach for me. AND THE KILLER TONE MADE IT A REAL TREAT. Just WOW! Thanks you so much. (Joe)
Nice and simple thanks.
Two things I observe from this solo:
1: Holy cow these bends are hard to do. They're not traditional blues lines, the bends are used as such a unique melodic device in SC solos. I'm using 9s and it's still killing me!
2: When you break it down into licks, what is most apparent is that the solo isn't technically impossible.... but, my god, the phrasing is absolutely staggering. The fact this was just improvised in studio one evening blows my mind, it's almost cinematic in how it introduces the song and this desperate character narrating it.
Can't go wrong with Steely Dan. Keep them coming good sir.
Outstanding! Always wanted to learn this. Thanks man!
Coolest intro to a song ever. I was hoping you'd get around to this one.
70’s Rock!
First time watching your videos. You are exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!!!
Cheers mate, thanks!
Thanx , great lesson . Nice!
You have a great way of breaking it down into licks rather than a long running solo note by note . Easy to follow your instructions!
Thanks mate!
after seeing you play this a couple of weeks ago....i was hoping you do tutorial on this classic...you are the man! thanks for all you do
Pleasure mate! Just doing my best to grow this channel and my little community built around it.
Thank you for the awesome lesson, it’s very clear and easy to learn from.
What a fantastic lesson. Thank you. Subscribed.
Well done to say the least. Really enjoyed listening to you play this with great precision. Now I’m going to attempt the lesson where I am certainly going to struggle but even if I can play a few of these iconic LC licks I’ll be happy.
Thanks! Your taste in music and skills are impeccable. Always love Larry!!!
You're awesome mate! Thanks for that man. Really appreciated.
Very informative!!! I'm a beginner on electric so I'm more into a beginners thing...but your quite good..your a seasoned veteran!! And I can always learn something from a guy like you!! Keep it comeing dude✌️🇺🇸🇬🇧
Yep! Nice job!
Impressive breakdown sir. One of the great guitar solos and at the very start of a tune. Only the Dan could conceive of that
I keep coming back to this vid but have to slow it down a bit.. learning it small parts at a time.. awesome video
Awesome Kelly!
Thanks Furdog!
Spectacular Brother !!!!!! 😎✌️😜😍🎸🎶🎶🎶
This was a great idea Kelly👍. 70's surely had some good solos but I can't wait for the 80's😎. There was so many great songs and solos, we might have to drown you in coffee to finish the decade☕
Great lesson. Wow! Saved me a TON of hit and mostly miss.
Nice one 🤠
Cheers CC, thanks man!
Damn! I don’t ever see myself getting that good but I’ll keep trying😊
been working on this one for a while
Thankyou so much
This just makes me want to play …. LC is all over the place and those bends and phrasing… ugh….need to practice a bit more. Great job on figuring this out and sharing it.
This is a fantastic lesson on bending…if your bends are not up to par, this is gonna sound like total crap…especially those “pre-bends”…you almost have to learn the feel of the tension of the string to be in proper pitch…there’s way more going on here than meets the eye (or ear)…excellent work KDA👍
I'm quite used to doing index finger bends, (of which this solo has quite a few), so I don't find them very difficult, but I imagine that they must give a bit of trouble to many intermediate players out there.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar ….Kelly, I sent a tip your way…for all the great work you give to us freely!!!
@@eddiejr540 saw that. You're awesome Eddie! Appreciate it very much mate.
What a magnificent groove! I know, I know, out of style, I don't friggin' care. Tremendous playing, Kelly!
BTW, that initial chord would be a dominant with augmented (or sharp) ninth, aka the "Hendrix chord": G7(#9)
Hey Pedro! Good to hear from you as always. Thanks mate.
Man! You're quite the industrious fret burner
Killer !
More of the dan please❤
Awesome...great solo. Next Dan solo should be "My Old School"
Bedankt
