I just want to say thank you Josh! A couple years ago, I took my TOEFL exam but I got only 79. Last Friday, I took it again and got better results: 28/30 for Reading, 24/30 for Listening, and I think for Writing will be good as well, only the Speaking is kind of meh. Can you please help me with the question when the ask about what is the lecture or lecture mainly about? Sometimes the lecture diverges from the primary point to something secondary. Like they start focusing on a particular example. What should be the answer in that case?
Great question. The best way to do this question is look at the answer choices. Try to imagine them as four big umbrellas. Then think about the passage. Which of the four umbrellas would shelter the most of the listening? That should be your answer.
You don't need to write any sentences. You should write down the most important information. Write down only nouns, verbs, and adjectives (content words). Write down consonants (vowels are hardly ever needed), and use symbols.
