  • This video is a step by step assembly and unboxing of a Woodland Mills WC68 wood chipper. I will also be running it on a Kubota B2601. The WC68 is rated for 20-50HP. The b2601 is 19.5HP at the PTO. Woodland mills confirmed 19.5 is enough PTO HP to run it.

MJA doing stuff I will check back if the handle goes into neutral. I’m currently trying to figure out the correct shaft length. I measured 28.5 between chipper and PTO gear grooves . I measured 29-7/16 between the PTO shafts push buttons. This gives me a 15/16 difference + 1 tells me to cut 1-15/16. When I put the shaft back together for install it is too long, even if I allow the PTO shaft slip past the groove for extra length. I’m going to call Woodland Mills today for help. The two sides of the shaft overlap and basically butt up against themselves. I believe I need a gap in the overlap to see a space, so if I hit a bump there is give and the butter up metal won’t jam against the PTO gear.

Yesterday I got the chipper assembled and I ran it for the first time. Thanks again for tips. I remembered most of them and they saved me a lot of time and effort. After a test run I made a couple adjustments as the infeed rolller did kick into neutral on about every other limb and didnt want to grab anything over a couple inches. I did as you did and decreased the tension on the springs which solved the grabbing of the larger limbs. I did what was suggested in the manual and by you, and took off the plastic cap on the rear of the control lever, loosed the jam lock nut with a 7/8" wrench and rotated the set screw with a 6mm allen wrech, clockwise one turn. I also did what Sawing with Sandy suggested and tightened the set screw adjusment under the feed speed control valve. Like you, I didnt bleed the system. Not sure which of the two fixes was the trick, but after those two adjustments, It only kicked into neutral a few times out of about 100 limbs. Was so much fun, I didnt mind the rain.... One other thing. I trimmed the shaft as instructed. Still too long, so I will probaby take another inch off before next time I try to hook up PTO. Way too hard to get it on... Thanks again!

If I ever get to build one of these for myself out of the box, I believe I will surely llll dab a b dollop of good old roofing tar on the nuts and bolts especially the ones that will surely rattle loose right into the speeding chipper blades. Not blue Lock-tite Ernie lock'tite like every mechanic will tell you to use but tar . If tar belongs anywhere it belongs on a chipper in the woods because if you dont come home blackened with tar you aint been working ,t you yu you just been dilly dallying. Seriously though the hopper should be iether welded togeather or at least glue the bolts togeather. Those nylon lock nuts are not lock nuts . A tight nut and bolt with sheet metal between is not locked. A lock nut is two nuts next to each other with no washers and tightened against each other with two box end wrenches. That method of lock nut will stay locked forever even when the metal pieces have fatigued and the bolt is rattling in its hole.
