_Of all of the ages of opera, this music ( Baroque ) is too magnificent for just humans._

    Siam navi all'onde algenti
    Lasciate in abbandono,
    Impetuosi venti
    I nostri affetti sono,
    Ogni diletto è scoglio,
Tutta la vita è un mar.
    Ben, qual nocchiero, in noi
    veglia ragion; ma poi
    pur dall'ondoso orgoglio
    si lascia trasportar.

Absolutely! Concerning L'Olimpiade I'm even more priviledged as I heard this whole opera live, but everybody else for me came as a bonus like wonderful Gauvin, Rosique, Basso as I came there only to listen to Nicholas Spanos live in his 2 arias - this one "Siam navi" and "Son qual". And it was worth coming from the other end of the world and every cent of it even if he sang only ONE aria! Live his voice sounds even better than in all his best recordings! Pure magic! It's unforgettable!...

Absolutely! Even modern technology just can't catch all magic of an exceptional voice as it's still a "copy", kinda imitation of what heard in reality! A true exceptional CT voice SOARS and sounds with ease! Spanos's sound production is increble! He sings without any tention. His voice soars high and his pianissimi are heard very well as they go up while some voices were drowned by too loud playing orchestra when I heard it live as they just don't soar.I wish all Spanos's fans to hear him live!

Great Nicholas Spanos's singing! Bravissimo! Listened to it again with a great pleasure. Thanks dear Arturo for posting. I heard it live in Brussels last summer, and it was even more impressive as live sound is always better if it's a great singer and in a faster tempo!:-)

The baroque Hasse is much better than the void, artificial classical Hasse...

I COULDN´T AGREE MORE;) HOWEVER, IT´S INTERESTING THAT HE WAS ABLE TO USE HIS OLDER "BAROQUE" STYLE EVEN IN LATER YEARS SOMETIMES, LIKE IN THIS CASE OF HIS OPERA ´L´OLIMPIADE´ (1756 !!). BUT I AGREE THAT HE WROTE HIS BEST THINGS IN 1720s AND 1730s.

The overture to this opera is in the French Baroque style. I like both the Baroque and the Classical Hasse as there are amazing operas from both periods: Cleofide (1731) and Romolo ed Ersilia (1765).

He was in venice when vivaldi still was alive, and he also met mozart many decades later... He is very interesting when it comes to the change from baroque to classical. Imagine if Vivaldi lived to the 1760s, if bach lived to the 1770s or if mozart lived to 1830

Dear Arturo, thank you very much for your reply. I've missed you much:-). I'm OK. Hope you are OK too. Ah, don't worry, shit happens:-). We all can make mistakes and need some rest. Yeah, it's a pity you were not with us in Brussels to hear this beauty live! I can garantee that you would have been very impressed as it was even better than in this fantastic recording! Maybe some day we'll meet on another Spanos's live performance:-)He just becomes better and better.Seriously! Hugs and kisses,Yana

This video is a superb synthesis. The singer undeniably exemplifies classic male beauty. He sings, however, in a voice which is stereotypically "female". Long live gender-bending! And furthermore, the quality of the music is very fine indeed. There was a time when Hasse was regarded above Handel, Telemann and Bach. Was the critic really so stupid?!
