  • Patterning the Boss Tom Tungsten Super Shot (TSS) ammo with my Stoeger M3000 and Carlson’s Turkey Choke. I am testing the 12 Gauge, 3 inch, 2 OZ, #9 Shot Shells. This is the first time I’ve shot TSS and was very impressed.
    Comment below and let me know if you’ve had good luck with TSS.

    As a man that shoots 9 shot tss penetration equals that of lead 5 shot. That said you really shouldn’t shoot lead 5s over 60 yrds due to penetration factor I know cause 63 yrds I had run a gobbler down that was still alive but partially broken neck and pellets in the head with 9 shot tss. Being smaller it also does less damage than a larger diameter pellet. Where 9 shot tss shines is 50 and less as u can open up ur pattern to give you a larger margin of error while still delivering the same amount of pellets in the center of the pattern as a standard lead load

    I use the apex and federal tss, I've used the primos jelly head and carlsons. #8.5 & 9's are where it's at. Great video. For those that don't believe penetration is good enough, place several layers of cardboard behind the target and see what happens. These are turkey killers for sure

    People act like tss is soo good bc you can shoot soo far. I think if you are shooting a 12 guage 3 inch winchester lo g beard #5s for $25 are plenty good. You shouldn't be ethically shooting a turkey past 40 yards anyway

      @Chase H geeze dude I bet them 3.5s will knock your pecker in the dirt. Ouch. I have a 3 inch gun so I shoot 3 inch shells, obviously. I'm sure if I had a 3.5 inch gun I'd shoot them too, but I am glad I don't bc they have to kick hard as hell.

      I have shot one turkey at 55 steps and that was because I had been after him for two years. That is the farthest shot I have take and will ever take. Most of my turkeys I can just about ring there neck as it is. Just not a fan of long range shot in my opinion it is not ethical

      @Whitey Fisk Unfortunately I must agree with you for most folks that is correct. TSS is what I call "The great equalizer" and alot of people like to show off what I can do on paper, which is great but doesn't put one beak first in the dirt. IMHO....TSS is best used in "sub" gauges because of it's effectiveness and efficiency. Again, IMHO shooting ANY TSS load (9s, seem to be most popular) over 1 5/8oz. or MAYBE 1 3/4 oz. is just a waste. 9s, traveling at 1000 fps will efficiently harvest a bird far longer than the ethical pattern will stay together. I'm not telling folks how ,what, where, or when to squeeze the trigger, that's up to each individual to judge for themselves how far they can ETHICALLY harvest an animal. Unfortunately most today simply don't care.

    i shoot tss #9s in a 20 ga killed to last season 2021 at 50 yards and one at 53 yards . you will pay for tss but when that gobbler hangs up at 50 he will be going home with you...

    • @whiteyfisk9769
      @whiteyfisk9769 Рік тому

      Why not just use a 17hmr. You dont always have to win. Thats why its called hunting. If we all got a bird every time we went out soon there wouldn't any turkeys left, and its probably one of the reasons turkey populations are on such declince lately.

  • @danielwagner6290
    @danielwagner6290 2 роки тому +4

    You people that use TSS aren't using that load for what it's made for out in the field. TSS is made for long range like everyone says it can do but never and are afraid to take those longer shots. If I shot TSS, which I don't I would never hesitate or be afraid to shoot a Turkey at 80 yards. I take 60 yards shots without using TSS loads and kill turkeys with no problem. In the past we killed turkeys at 40 yards with high brass pheasant loads and only a full choke
    No X full, no XX full, no XXX full no XXXX full choke. So, TSS users are not using that load for what it's made for and priced at. Maybe the reason why their not taking those longer shots is to cover up for their lack of skill at those ranges and just blame it on being unethical. More like afraid, unskilled, lack of knowing what your weapon is capable of or just plain lazy to learn how that's possible. You proved my point in your video. You made a kill shot at 80 yards as you said yourself but you admitted you wouldn't take that shot. Why? Afraid? Unethical in your opinion? Not sure of yourself? Who cares if you shoot a turkey 2 or 3 times at 80 yards as long as you get it. I have seen people shoot turkeys 2 or 3 times at 30 yards.
    Is that unethical? With some turkeys that's the only shot they give you. They stay just out of peoples comfort zone range. This is how I get pressured public land gobblers. I use the long shot trick on them if they don't want to come in any closer. Smarter birds have figured that out. They know when they should see a hen but don't and stay away. You keep hunting the easier dummer birds. Leave the smarter birds to hunters like me. Nothing unethical about shooting a bird at 80 yards if make sure you kill it. I wish people would just admit the real reasons why they won't shoot at longer ranges.

    • @scottfrederick8299
      @scottfrederick8299 Рік тому +1

      That's your opinion, mine is any idiot can shoot a turkey at long range with the right choke and shell combination but it takes a smart & good hunter to consistently call old birds or highly pressured public land birds to 40 yds or less and harvest them. Most people in my opinion that take a long poke at a turkey is just interested in the kill or just plain don't know how to call a turkey in close.

    • @danielwagner6290
      @danielwagner6290 Рік тому

      @@scottfrederick8299 That's your opinion but, no not anyone can do long range shots if that were true I would see many more videos doing so. Calling them in close is someone not confident and needs them in there shot range. I shot one at 10 yards in the head so I know how it is. Close or far there is nothing wrong with it. TSS is still over hyped, over priced, and under shot. Yes, that's my opinion.

    • @scottfrederick8299
      @scottfrederick8299 Рік тому +2

      @@danielwagner6290 there's no fun in shooting one at long range for me, the challenge is calling them up close and watching them strut, spit & drum. I guess that's the reason I shoot a 410 or bow. Long range shots are not a challenge and killing one at long range has no meaning to me. If I can't call one in close (40 yds or closer with a gun, 20 yds or closer with a bow) he lives to hunt another day. To each his own.

      Danny, that's not even ethical. It doesn't matter if you use Tungsten buckshot. Your velocity is near subsonic at long range. If that bird drops or turns his head at the shot, you've wounded up a $750 bird. That's the restoration fee charged for an illegal bird where I live.
