I've worked there and been to these places and would love to hike the trail. The Jordanian people are great. Great video. I can't think of another trail that will give you the kind of history that this one does. Jordan is a great place to visit, its tourism is very un-commercialized. But it is barely known to Americans. From scuba diving and fishing in the Red Sea, to the Dead Sea resorts, to world heritage sites like Petra and Wadi rum, to religious holy Land sites..... Ancient pre history ruins, Roman ruins..crusader castles.. Bedouin still living nomadic lifestyles...... It's all there. In many places it's like stepping back into the Bible.... Yes, people still use donkeys, ride camels, and dress that way. The entire history of mankind has left imprint on this small piece of land the size of a single US state.
It is very interesting to see how people still live in other places in the world. Experience another authentic culture..... Not some watered down tourist version. No better way to immerse yourself in it than to hike it. Amman is a modern city and is where most jordanians live.... But many of the smaller towns and villages don't even rate third world classification.

The talk in the desert with the cool boy, who rides the camel, is really funny: "Salam!" - "Salam!" - "Kifahalo (How are you?)" - "Oh, I like your camel!" - "Camel...- " "How are you?" "(Her Name is) Dschahad."... "Where from!?" "England!"... "Oh, great!"... "Yes..."

      Hi Maria de la Guardia
GPS files were downloaded from the Jordan trail web site water can be found in the villages that you pass, spring and stream when possible and Bedouin that I met were all very Generous with plenty of tea!
But there are some big legs were I needed to carry at least 5 litres. Would recommend cooler months to travel summer definitely a no go unless with a guide.

Enjoy your hike it’s pretty amazing out there .
regarding water I would always carrying 3 litres and on some of the bigger sections I had to carrying 5 litres.
The Bedouin would always offer to top up my water bottles but of course you can’t Rely on Meeting them?
Would advise force drinking at least a litre of water when leaving any village.
Also town, camp and shepherds dogs are pretty bad.
just Throw or pretend to throw a stone at them Generally, they runaway !
      Enjoy jon 👍👍👍

    • @jonepoulter7524
      @jonepoulter7524  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Laura
      Regarding your question
I would say the Jordan trail is pretty tough especially for solo hiker’s carrying enough water and food was Quite a challenge. Also the vast and remote areas can be quite intimidating.
Gps is Essential to complete the trail if travelling with out a guide.
Altitude is not a Issue Although there are many sections of demanding steep uphill tracks.
One thing I forgot to film was the many Aggressive dog packs that enjoyed Intimidating me when I passing through villages or Bedouin camps .
So if you are scared of dogs it’s something to think about, Throwing a stone at them, or even pretending to throw a stone would usually see them running?
      Hope this helps a little
      Regards jon

Great video!! I will be going with a friend in a few months and this video has gotten me very hyped!
The only thing I'm concerned about is water and food- were there sections of the trail where you were really concerned about finding water for the next day? Or moments where you had to diverge from the trail and properly go searching?
And regarding food, how often could you restock? What did that look like? I have allergies and don't think I could eat too much of the food offered at camps along the way. Any info here would be appreciated! Cheers!

      Hi Hugo
Will try and help with some of your questions?
I passed though villages or small towns every day or two ? Where I could buy some food I survived off two minute noodles and tins of tuna plus dates and Jordanian Pastries and sweets which were fantastic for energy.
would always travel with at least 3 L of water some of the longer legs I had to carry 5 L Bedouins would always offer cups of tea and would help with water when possible.
I Would recommend taking MSR Clear shot water purifier very lightweight also take chlorine tablets. One thing my video doesn’t show are the dogs that can be very Aggressive but Throw a stone at them and they will disappear!
Jordan trail web site will give lots of advice and you should be able to download GPS files for Navigation as only the first 80 km are way marked .
      Hope this helps a little
      All the best
      Jon

Hey Jon! Great video! Really helpful to get an better insight. I'm planning to hike the trail this year as well and I've done some research on water-supply. I've read more than once that people relied on water drops by guides. In your video it looks like you managed to find water? Was that true for every single day? I think water is my biggest concern on that trail! Highly appreciate your answer!! THANK YOU

      hi frankie
water when hiking solo is definitely a concern especially with out a guild,
I was able to purchase water in villages always carrying a Minimum of three litres ,only drinking the last litre when I knew I was within a short distance to the next water supply. most days I would be able to top up my water at Bedouin camps also enjoying many cups of sweet tea.
Be prepared to carry up to 5 L on some of the longer legs?
I would always drink a litre of water before leaving any watersupply i.e. Village or sping?
Hope this helps have a great trip.
      jon
