thank you !
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the clash was a result of a battle for ownership of a vast expanse of land that covers the beach. They were already on private property and there were signs on the beach that stated Private government property KEEP OUT !! It was just a matter of time they needed the land back to start building their real estate beach front property.
Ludo you need to watch what you post about Nigeria esp when you have no idea what’s going on. These places was encroached by these guys.. erecting shanties all over and defacing the beautiful Lagos. The land has long been earmarked for federal government use for decades and these encroachers migrated from the hinterlands to settle on govt property. Quit this nonsense or you’ll face the full wrath of the law.
Illegally Living There. Crackhead, Hooligans, Drug Users, Trouble Users. Move Them To Your Country.
This is horrible! I saw a similar video about people living on the beach somewhere in India where bulldozers came and tore everything down. The next day the people started to rebuild- until the next 'visit' of the bulldozer crew. Such a hard life.
You are a great man. Nigerians all over the world appreciate you. Thank you
I appreciate that, thank you so much Sir !
They Are Living There For Free But They Still Camnot Clean The Whole Place. Trashing Everywhere.

this is unfortunately a very negative point observed in Lagos, But more over NaijA, and many other places in Africa. we have to all work on this littering problem

@@Ludo_Liu Yes it is , I do not care what a person do there is a right and wrong way to do anything.
It is heartbreaking to see how these people, who didn't have much, lost the little they have. At the same time it's admirable how they pick up the pieces and start building up again the next day. Thank you for showing us this.

My heart is breaking for all these beautiful people. I only watched a video about this pace 2 days ago. The people were saying they had jobs in the city so couldn’t move back to the villages 😢love from Scotland 🏴

Very sad ! The people’s situation has gone from bad to worse . God help them . Thanks Ludo for documenting the lives and woes of the underprivileged. God BLESS 🙏🏾
thanks a lot for your kind words, I feel this is not balanced here on youtube, all the youtubers speak only about rich people and billionaires, cause they want high RPM
@@Ludo_Liu you’re welcome, yes all they think and envision is dollar signs.
Their settlement is an illegal settlement. Just because you illegally occupied a place for decades doesn't make it legal. Before building on the site, they are aware it is illegal. 90% of Nigerians have access to land, either directly or through ancestral land, in their respective states. It is unfortunate it happened, but it is self-inflicted. Since your friend is working, tell him to rent a house legitimately. That they cannot afford rent is a lie. They cannot afford living in highbrow areas, not like living in Ikorodu, which 20 minutes away by ferry.. No responsible government would allow shanties. People come from the North, like people living under the bridge in Ojora and Obalende, meanwhile when you to the Northern part of the country, like Kano, where Irving under the bridge is not allowed they come to Lagos, to live recklessly under the bridges.
I am so happy that this clean-up is going on. I am a typical Yoruba man who has been living as an alien in the greatest country on Earth and every human on earth knows the country that I am referring to. I came to Nigeria last year after 17 years in diaspora and I was living in a gated hotel on mainland until I relocated to Island for the last week before I go back to my country. As a typical Yoruba man, I was crying the whole time seeing the peculiar mess going on, on Island. There were too much people on Island to begin with and the most blames go to the fucking Kings, most of the tolls to the beaches are collected by the kings and they use Area Boys aka touts to collect all this money. It should be Lagos State government collecting this money and not a titular king with no constitutional power. The touts can never work anywhere else on earth again because tolls collections remain their liquid gold. They are not issuing tickets and most of the money goes to their pockets. Women from all around West Africa come to do prostitution on Island with no fear or apprehension. Island is the best place in Nigeria and it needs to be protected. I lived in Lekki and I had a tout staring at me in a broad daylight because I looked different, but I am a typical Yoruba man. That scares the bejabbers out of me as I refused to go out at night on the Island as I don't want to be a victim.
Multi- level State/Government failure.
Yes it is illegal. Yes they are aware, yes they ignore the notifications.
This is for most of them the only solution they found to keep working, cause this is where most of the work is found, in several fields (construction, service...) . no they cannot afford renting, even on mainland... or if they do so they will loose the job they have here, cause they won't be able to pay for transport.
let's say you rent something for 150 000 a year, you have less than 40 000 remaining every month for food and transport.... if your salary is 50 0000.
Transport from the mainland to VI is for one way minimum 1000 nairas (it is more effectively) so 2000 everyday. you have for these people 24 working days a month, so, you cannot even pay the transport to go to work....
Ikorudu,, yes renting there one room, is around 170 000 a year, without the bills you add. ferry is even more costy than the danfo, and just the price of the ferry + danfo would be around 3 500 everyday.
you don't even want to calculate for a person having the minimum wedge of 30 000.
What do they do ? they should quit the job they are working for since many years, and start begging far from Lagos because it makes some people uncomfortable to see the miserable life they are put into while constructing the city ?
😊@@gabrielthomas9699

Lagos is the smallest state of all 36 states in Nigeria, yet it has the most population of almost 20 million people. The largest state in Nigeria is Niger State, with just 6 million population.
I totally support the Lagos state government in this clean up exercise.
So sad indeed. I wish them well. Thanks for sharing Ludo!
Thank you too to be here and support !
How can people be living on an open sea beach. They were warned severally but refused to move.
yes this is true, but they unfortunately don't have much solution opened to them
They must give way for the city development. If a city wants to be mentioned as one of the livable cities, lagos must remove all this poor structures and line up those water fronts with skyscraper etc@@Ludo_Liu
I like this video but it’s not a most everyone should live in Lagos...
That’s my opinion
Yes I understand …this is a so complexe problem. I think it can t be solved without considering the poorest one and try to allow them a to have descent life .
@@Ludo_Liu the problem is representation and how to identify who are the poorest.
The moment government says they want to assist the poorest, it is unknown, unaffected individuals that would turn it into a business to siphon our common wealth, usually with the connivance of unscrupulous officials.
Ludo you are back with another raw, revealing video of the unseemly side of Lagos. Thank you for being one of the few travel vloggers who go into the non-touristy communities. I appreciate you for allowing the citizens to tell their story and sharing it. For some unexplainable reason while watching your documentary I was reminded of the situation in Haiti. Different but in a way the same.
thanks a lot, I really appreciate to read this comment. I am happy to show what the other youtuber ever show, happy to give a voice to the majority who is never seen online.
Haiti... ayayayaya, the situation there is really extremely terrible, there is no state, the gangs took over
Those people built illegal structures along the beach and made the place so unsightly. The Lagos St Govt did the right thing and need to do more in order to make Lagos cleaner. Those people travelled from their villages to build illegally on the beach and they either need to build/rent houses legally or return back to their states. It’s not by force to live in Lagos.
Did they give them notice? If not it is wrong as a Nigerian you should know this
Many people here are born in Lagos. And even if they came from village, most are working here .yes this settlement is illegal and should not be . But how to do when you don t have a salary that doesn t allow you to stay in other conditions.
@@Ludo_Liu they weren’t born on the beach, they need to go back to their respective homes. Just because their circumstances doesn’t excuse them building illegally and the govt shd turn a blind eye.
@@BoskiM I’m sure they were given notice, but Nigerians like to turn a blind eye to everything and blame the govt for their misfortune.
@@yemol9454the problem for most of them is that they work here, close to this beach, and they cannot afford eing far with the cost of transport... yes it is illegal, and not nice, but I am very sad to see children and grandma sleeping on the beach with nothing
Following the immediate evacuation of all the waterfront communities across the shorelines in Lagos state, the state government has commenced the demolition of structures on Kuramo beach to avert further disaster at the waterfronts.
According to the State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Segun Oniru, the move was necessitated by seven days of high waves accompanied by a strong ocean surge which hit the country's coastline, including Lagos.
He identified places from which residents are expected to move as Badagry and Ojo Waterfront areas, Bar Beach, Kuramo Beach, Goshen Estate, Maiyegun and Alpha Beach.
This was in 2012
what happened there doesn't have any link with safety of the people or high waves protection.
however, has many said, yes it is illegal, and this is the major reason
Ludo, there is a difference between resilience and downright defiance. You should encourage them to find other alternatives to living by this water, polluting it and defacing the land. You will give everyone money today
It is hard to find places to live! Some of these people owned where they were the govt just decides to tear houses down it makes no difference on the area or cost of house
@@lizsmith952No, they don’t own the land. Stop talking nonsense. This land is govt owned and has been earmarked for the Lagos - Calabar expressway. Many of you illiterates are deluded asf. These lot moved from the hinterlands to settle on govt property.. building shanties everywhere and defacing the urban plan for the areas. They were evacuated just like the Maroko settlers of decades ago. They need to return to the hinterlands or find a proper house to rent. We can’t continue to have shanties all over the highbrow areas of Nigeria. Ludo should do his research before posting a false narrative to the world. We’re tired of miscreants setting up shanty towns everywhere on our land and crying foul when the govt swoops in.

i guess it is because it is dramatic for some of the people here. this situation is not simple....
Ludo, please stop it right there. John berry seems to be a very intelligent man with his good pointer and excellent submission. You can be a victim too with this caliber of people living on Island. The Government needs to take responsibility for what they do! This is horrible! Give people no notice or little notice and then go destroy everything and have no heart! Its hard to live in Lagos with the cost of everything and the little money they might make in a month! Not enough for food!
the government notified them, they knew this was happening, unfortunately for many there is no other solution . Even if they are here illegally, i still very sad to see such human sufferings
It’s illegal but the government don’t have to threat them like animal
This is the reason why most Nigeria do all it takes to survive either legally or illegally

Quelle tristesse pour cette population 😢
oui c'est très difficile pour eux !
Although, it's a sad incident. But these settlements are all illegally occupied. Lagos State intention is to bring infracture sanity to that area. Well let them move on with their lifes, relocate to any aread not under govt allocation and affordable for them. Stay safe Lugo.

I feel for these people. I don't want to seem insensitive, but Lagos is extremely expensive, and it's not by force for people to live in Lagos if they can't afford it. You can't afford to live in open, public spaces, and think government won't come anytime, especially when those spaces are unsanitary. There are 35 other less expensive states in Nigeria where they can get by with the small resources they have.
Some kids will run away from home to live in this place ,so well done job government

I know many of these kids who left house because they didn't have enough to survive there

As you said there is no excuse, what can you say ?🤐
not much to say here... this is really harsh
I think a lot of people misunderstand Lagos (including most Westerners). It is not so much that Lagos creates poverty as it is that Lagos ATTRACTS poverty. Here is how it works. The poor actually WANT to be in Lagos. Lagos is not pushing people into poverty, the poorest people in West Africa want to be in Lagos. They would rather leave their homes in their villages where they have rights to come into Lagos where they have no legal tenure. Why? Because of the opportunity that Lagos provides. That is why these people never leave Lagos no matter how many times their homes are destroyed. When you realise this, you will now understand that it is almost impossible for Lagos not to have squatter settlements and slums today. In fact many of the people in these communities do not even have legal rights to live in Nigeria at all. Many of them are illegal immigrants. So I wouldn't be so quick to see Lagos as this evil place that forces people into poverty. That simply isn't true. If that were true, these people would be running away from Lagos not towards it. So what is Lagos doing wrong? Is Lagos doing enough for the poor? I don't think so. Lagos can build policies to support more housing. Lagos can do more for those in poverty and be more supportive. HOWEVER, I want to conclude by saying that even if Lagos did everything it could, it still wouldn't be enough, and here is why. Because Lagos attracts poverty, the poor will ALWAYS come to Lagos, there will never be a time when there aren't poor people in Lagos, unless the rest of Nigeria and West Africa step up their game. Many of these people coming into Lagos should realistically be supported by Ibadan, Kaduna, Lome, Cotonou, Accra, Maiduguri etc. Too much pressure is being placed on Lagos. It is not sustainable. The idea is that anybody can make it in Lagos, but that cannot be entirely true. There are limits to what Lagos can be at any point in time. Lagos holds a huge burden in West Africa, places like Kuramo, Makoko are simply signs of that. Realistically these places reflect the failures of OTHER parts of Nigeria and West Africa MORE than they reflect the failures of Lagos. When other parts of West Africa develop better economies, you will see illegal migration into Lagos slow down as well as internal migration slow down.
The government has done the right thing. They cost government money to be cleared off the area. They all have their homes in other places but will still go and occupy lands illegally.
Its been a while Ludo
