Lore Drop for anyone wondering who the golden guy was. Elder Jinchi was a monk that Wukong and Tripitaka (the monk he's taking to the west) came across. The monk offered them shelter in Guanyin monastery but then became jealous of the monks beautiful cassock, and schemed to light their room up to kill them and keep the cassock. But Wukong used his abilities to protect only the monk and blew winds to make the fire spread across the entire temple. After seeing all of this Jinchi smashed his head against a wall and ended himself in a fit of emotion. Edit: I was way too surprised when i woke up and saw people finding this interesting! I hope you all get a chance to learn some of the lore and enrich your playthrough
after seeing a bit of the game played by streamers so far I've decided I'm definitely going to read "Journey to the West" before I touch the game. I think it'll make my initial playthrough significantly better.
I love the transformation mechanic, it's literally just "could I beat this boss playing as this other boss?" I also love that some bosses will actually have unique dialogue based on which transformation you do, lots of potential for subtle lore reveals this way.
Imagine Malenia commenting if you summon Finlay, that would be so sick , I also love this mechanic. The bosses feel more engaging when they comment on what you use

As the viewer we'd easily recognize this as our hands and mind are free to roam but when it comes to playing whilst making commentary it's easy to realize small mechanics like that

That second phase (19:38) was hard to come by when watching other youtubers. Depending on your performance on bosses, such as barely beating the first phase, you can completely miss a second phase. But if you steamroll them, you'll most likely get a second phase.

I just beat wind sage. The best tip I have is invest as many points as you can into the tree that gives you more mana to the point that it's full. Buy as many of those mana pills you can from the dog guy. And once you have a lot of man I just freeze him and use the wind vessel near 30% health to freeze him. The wind vessel negates the storm he calls when cat and give damage reduction that you can stack with the defense potion

It’s strange, I had a hell of a time with Whiteclad Noble and Charlie first tries him. Charlie then had a hard time with Black Wind King and I first tried him.
I had the day off so I finally got to play the game, I sat and played the game for 9.5 hours and made it to chapter 3 (Just a little under halfway in terms of chapter progression). All I can say is that this game is genuinely so good, it feels finished, it feels smooth, there’s a lot of content, and the story is top tier. This game and BG3 should be what all AAA games try to be. I have only had one issue with the game which has a very easy fix. That issue was the I originally installed it to my HDD and that caused the video and audio to skip a lot, I had this same problem with Starfield so I already know to uninstall the game and reinstall it on an SSD (Which took about 10min) and since then no stutters or audio cut outs. This game has already made a strong contention for GOTY
I love the lets play style of these videos. Normally I don’t watch Charlie play games like this one because of it being a stream highlight and all he does it argue with chat, so this is a nice experience.
Yellow wind sage is definitely hard but it's actually a really fun fight in my opinion. Especially if you do the extra quests and get the secret item and backstory to it all

One of the strat that I like to use when challenging the boss, I charge up my heavy strike just before I meet the boss then deliver a nice blow just as the fight starts then I use the spirit that summons snakes first then I immobilize the boss immediately so he doesn’t move around much so the snakes won’t miss and it stacks the poison too. Also make sure you have that talent that gives you more immobilize time the more basic attack you use.

One thing I must say that this game does better than From Software is that bosses don't just one shot you. That shyet is annoying AF, it's unnecessary difficulty and it hurts the pacing of the game. In Wukong you'll get hit a lot just like DS or ER but Instead here you can actually keep playing.
It's cool to see how Charlie never even realised that killing the adds in the Jinchi fight heals him. He probably would have done it in even less tries if he did
I hope Charlie sees this, because I think some facts should be made aware for anyone who plays this game. First of all, the dev team for this game is incredibly misogynistic and anti-women, one of the lead creators of the team had many posts on Chinese social media publically disrespecting women, specifically saying they don't welcome female players & this is a game designed for men. There were also posts on Twitter made by the dev team that were disrespectful, I don't know if they still exist. Secondly, I am Chinese, and I know for a fact now the game is released, Chinese people are ripping it apart due to the catastrophically mangled plot when compared to the original & faithful tales of WuKong. It might seem fine to people who've never heard of SunWuKong before, but for us who grew up knowing the kind of character he really was in the stories, it's painfully inaccurate and makes no sense. I don't comment on the game itself, because I haven't played it and never will; I'd love to if it was made faithfully by people who are respectful, but unfortunately not. It saddens me that one of the greatest and most adored legend in our folklore is being introduced to the world in this fashion, and I hope Charlie can be informed of these 'behind-the-scenes' things that happened with this game. It's being promoted widely in China too, but many are aware of the dev team's stigma, so a lot of us are firmly against this game and its devs, despite it being one of the first games that became big enough to introduce our culture outside. I won't stand for a game that rides on the tide of mysogyny and hatred, and I won't tolerate a team of devs that spreads toxic masculinity & brainwashes men to hate femininity. This game reminds me of The Forbidden Kingdom starting Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
If you haven't seen that movie i HIGHLY recommend it.

I just beat wind sage. The best tip I have is invest as many points as you can into the tree that gives you more mana to the point that it's full. Buy as many of those mana pills you can from the dog guy. And once you have a lot of man I just freeze him and use the wind vessel near 30% health to freeze him. The wind vessel negates the storm he calls when cat and give damage reduction that you can stack with the defense potion

It’s strange, I had a hell of a time with Whiteclad Noble and Charlie first tries him. Charlie then had a hard time with Black Wind King and I first tried him.
At this point, when games journalists DON’T like a game…..you know it’s going to be good.
You have to fail so miserably hard at your profession to have literally the opposite effect of what you're supposed to do 😂

I had the day off so I finally got to play the game, I sat and played the game for 9.5 hours and made it to chapter 3 (Just a little under halfway in terms of chapter progression). All I can say is that this game is genuinely so good, it feels finished, it feels smooth, there’s a lot of content, and the story is top tier. This game and BG3 should be what all AAA games try to be. I have only had one issue with the game which has a very easy fix. That issue was the I originally installed it to my HDD and that caused the video and audio to skip a lot, I had this same problem with Starfield so I already know to uninstall the game and reinstall it on an SSD (Which took about 10min) and since then no stutters or audio cut outs. This game has already made a strong contention for GOTY

Yellow wind sage is definitely hard but it's actually a really fun fight in my opinion. Especially if you do the extra quests and get the secret item and backstory to it all

0:08 I can confirm the Yellow Wind Sage is one of the worst designed bosses in history. Specifically its final "stage" as it hides behind a fucking invisible wall 😂
One of the strat that I like to use when challenging the boss, I charge up my heavy strike just before I meet the boss then deliver a nice blow just as the fight starts then I use the spirit that summons snakes first then I immobilize the boss immediately so he doesn’t move around much so the snakes won’t miss and it stacks the poison too. Also make sure you have that talent that gives you more immobilize time the more basic attack you use.

One thing I must say that this game does better than From Software is that bosses don't just one shot you.
That shyet is annoying AF, it's unnecessary difficulty and it hurts the pacing of the game. In Wukong you'll get hit a lot just like DS or ER but Instead here you can actually keep playing.

I hope Charlie sees this, because I think some facts should be made aware for anyone who plays this game. First of all, the dev team for this game is incredibly misogynistic and anti-women, one of the lead creators of the team had many posts on Chinese social media publically disrespecting women, specifically saying they don't welcome female players & this is a game designed for men. There were also posts on Twitter made by the dev team that were disrespectful, I don't know if they still exist.
Secondly, I am Chinese, and I know for a fact now the game is released, Chinese people are ripping it apart due to the catastrophically mangled plot when compared to the original & faithful tales of WuKong. It might seem fine to people who've never heard of SunWuKong before, but for us who grew up knowing the kind of character he really was in the stories, it's painfully inaccurate and makes no sense. I don't comment on the game itself, because I haven't played it and never will; I'd love to if it was made faithfully by people who are respectful, but unfortunately not.
It saddens me that one of the greatest and most adored legend in our folklore is being introduced to the world in this fashion, and I hope Charlie can be informed of these 'behind-the-scenes' things that happened with this game. It's being promoted widely in China too, but many are aware of the dev team's stigma, so a lot of us are firmly against this game and its devs, despite it being one of the first games that became big enough to introduce our culture outside. I won't stand for a game that rides on the tide of mysogyny and hatred, and I won't tolerate a team of devs that spreads toxic masculinity & brainwashes men to hate femininity. I don't blame Charlie for playing it, but I hope he can learn these truths afterwards. He's a good man, and I trust he can make his own judement.
