    My dad and I played a game called "Shut the Hell Up. It went like this. "Pop, the ice cream truck is outside" And He'd say "Shut The Hell Up"!

    That was perfect. Thank you. Most descriptions I had found for this game called for it to be played for stakes settled after each round rather than over multiple rounds. Your scoring system is simple but elegant.

    It has been years since I have played Shut the Box, but always loved it. Thanks so much for sharing this video - love the Head to Head version. Could even play that method solo. Cheers!

    I used this game to teach my 5 years old son base math.
    We played like this:
    Each player rolls and can put down sum of dots or the number of dots on one of the dices. Then the bext person rolls. If you cannot put down the sum of dots or the number from a dice you lose your round and pass the dices to next player. The winner is the person who closes the box
    You can change the rules and subtract insted of adding dots 😊
    He learned how to add and subtract on a basic level.

    You mentioned TWICE, that you have to have two tiles to turn over ("an equal number of tiles to turn over"), yet TWICE you flipped just ONE tile. I've heard s/one from England go over the rules, and you CAN turn over just ONE tile on your turn...you add the two DICE together, and that TOTAL will allow you to turn 1, 2, or 3 or even FOUR tiles over.
    However you can get to the total on both dice, that's the tiles you turn over. You can also put a "spin" to the game and use multiplication. So I guess there are no hard, fast rules. As long as folks are havin' fun, & when played with children, it can be a great tool to hone their math skills.

      I've played this using multiplication and division too. I think there are plenty of versions of the rules. I agree, kids can improve math skills this way.

    We played this at my buddys birthday party...man it was so funn ive never heard of it. We played for $1 per round with 4 people playing each round. Is it true that you can only put down a maximum of two numbers each roll?

    Thanks so much for this tutorial. I bought a COLORFUL VERSION I can take to Rehab. Facility and play with my mom...whobhas slight dementia. It has 10 numbers.....I guess so small children can play too.
    Should I return it? Or just keep it and play the game trying to add up to 10.

    I found a Shut the box board that’s made of walnut or chestnut I think and has green felt. It’s probably about 1930’s ?? Who would I take it to to find a more accurate info on it?

    if i roll a 4 and a 2, but my 6, 4, and 2 tiles are flipped down, I can still flip the 5 and 1 tiles if they're still up to equal 6?

  • @MorkusReX
    @MorkusReX 4 роки тому

    Are you limited to flip 1 or 2 at a time ? Or you can flip 1,2,3,4 in case you got 4 and 6 on the dice?

    Since the object is to shut the box...lowest score win... If there is 2 & 7 left... You have the score 27. Next person has to get a lower score than 27 or shut the box to win. If 1st person shuts the box...2nd player must shut the box or lose. Atleast, that's how we played it...or we added up the last still standing for a score...again, lowest score wins. ( 2 player).

    If I get two of the same number can I just flip that number? I get two 6s, can I put down 6?

    • @brucecampbell6186
      @brucecampbell6186 4 місяці тому

      I think most rules require you add the two dice for a total of 12. Then in any combination of number equal to 12 that are not flipped is ok. But you must pass if you can’t flip a sum of 12 in this scenario.

    Funny, i invented this game as kid when i was like 10years old. I called it schoolbus. But to make it more fun the roller could choose to roll both dice or just 1 dice.
