I feel so honored to have seen the telescope last March as it was still in good working condition as this was my first time on this spectacular vibrant island..
They should auction / sell pieces of the telescope to commemorate the many achievements over its 53 years of operation..
Iam sure sales and donations will fall shy of the projected 400 million to construct and new and improved radio telescope but iam sure there's enough space geeks like myself to help make a difference..
Keep your eyes to the sky..🖖

Yes we should hurry and sell all the pieces so that there is absolutely no chance we can cheaply repair it. If we quickly dismantle what is left perhaps we can give millions of dollars from the United States government. Perhaps you should go after the people that destroyed it and get the money from them. You could go after the university that was operating it improperly when it broke. I can give you the name of the female scientists that destroyed it. But perhaps you should look it up

Were the original engineers consulted about the 'Gregorian Dome'? "hey, we're going to add a massive amount of weight; that won't be an issue, right?"

I guess the weight comparison to grand pianos (& how many us have any idea of how heavy they are?) is supposed to be dramatic, but it's actually just arbitrary & meaningless
Not only is the simple fact of 900 tons sufficiently impressive, the structure itself adds more than enough drama - seeming to almost float over the dish below

PR is in bankruptcy. And although science is no PR government responsibility, we should not invest any money to reconstruct ....Why? CAUSE WE DONT HAVE THE MONEY. Oh my! And the governor talking about restoring the radio telescope [its shameful].
If you know about science, you know that PR can afford to fix it. Thats something very easy to understand.

800 million dollar cover up. Engineers who couldn't do a simple load calculation. What organization Miss operated the dish and destroyed it? The organization that was operating it and destroyed it needs to pay to have it repaired. And destroying an 800 million dollar item should put you in prison for quite a bit of time. Puerto Rico doesn't have the infrastructure or the equipment to operate an item like this. They could have had a new cable in a day if this would have been stateside. The cables just broke huh? How many of these cables are supporting bridges that are going to just break LOL. They're in a hurry to do a tear down before anyone has the ability to do an actual investigation.

@@jevonpiccard6601 You are mistaken. There was never any expectation that Puerto Rico would fund maintenance of Arecibo. Maintenance and operating costs were funded by the US National Science Foundation (NSF). NSF funding for Arecibo decreased over the years to zero, so these were taken over by a university, which did not have adequate resources. It was the loss of US NSF funding that doomed Arecibo.

@@Laura-S196 you're funny Rick, so you sent all the money that the visitors center earned back to the us LOL. All of the on-site scientists and Engineers LOL where they getting paid by the us or should half of them been fired and the other half used to maintain. Right now someone belongs in prison. If not several people. You sound like one of them intelligent people that knows how to put gasoline in their car but not oil and when the car breaks down it's someone else's. LOL. You guys had a large budget and should have put a tiny amount aside for maintenance and repair. And perhaps a few remedial load lifting classes LOL. You know every University that used it was paying what did you do with the money? Follow the money Trail people it leads to the guilty. And again this will Hampton when you spend more money painting your Visitors Center then you do on inspecting cables LOL I'm told there's not much left as The Scrappers have came and stole all the aluminum. Darn U.S we can blame them because they didn't fund security LOL hey here's an idea why don't you tell us how much your budget is a year and then show us how much you spent on maintenance and repair.

120 employees and no maintenance people LOL. My parents gave me a brand new car, I drove over the year before it died, it ran out of oil. It was my parents fault for not paying for my oil changes LOL. Once my parents stopped funding it if no longer became my responsibility. Of the hundred and twenty employees I'll bet firing 20 of them and using their salaries for maintenance and this would have never happened. Take responsibility for your actions.

' I think the antenna was destroyed by secret forces led by they desire to keep discussion of contacts between humans and aliens quiet. That's what happened with this antenna. There was over a period of a couple of years an exchange of messages one from the human and one from the alien who received the human message, decoded it, and answered it receive there on this antenna.
Explosions on the termination points of the supporting cables would be easy to rig and fire remotely. This instruction seems very odd considering the commentaries that indicated should have continued to stand. It is such a suspicious thing to happen.
