So HI my name is Tommy and I wus looking up DIY fishing boats and I stumbled on your DIY stuff about narrowboats o I live in the USA in ohio and I am amazed buy the narrowboat boat like because of your videos I have been watching your videos now for like 3 days and love the narrowboat life so cool keep the videos coming 😀
That was a really professional & informative vlog. Very well put together and explained perfectly. I'm sure it will help a lot of new boaters, well done both of you!
Hi Amy and Wes. A very informative video. So impressed you managed to make this at the same time as your weekly ones. This will be really useful to explain how to do it for those that have never blacked a boat before. Take care. Nick
Excellent blacking video, well done. The only extra tip I can offer is only give one coat of blacking on the wall next to the skin tank, our 2nd boat used to over heat in hot weather and when we were blacking one year, someone pointed out there were about 30 layers of bitumen next to the skin tank, he ground it back to bear metal and we used to apply a thin coat each year and it did the trick. We always put a bit of pipe in our outlets to keep the water off the sides whilst drying like you mentioned, but we are out for a week at a time, every year as it’s free as part of our mooring 👍
That was an excellent vlog, very informative and at a great price. My blacking hasnt been done for nearly 3 years so getting urgent as my anoids have almost worn away|.
Morning : ), great video and made me think about things I had not considered. You actually use a bit more paint than I thought it would take to. Very useful video. Thank you.
Very informative vlog guys. Considering how you were in the beginning with DIY you’ve certainly improved. Hoping a won’t need to do my blacking for at least 2 years once I get the boat but will definitely be referring back to this when I do. 👍
What an amazingly clear and happy tutorial. Ready for sale on DVD or Netflix, hahaha! Maybe you can also do a vlog on healthy fastfood down the canals amongst other guilty pleasures, and how to save a few quid on bargains. ;-)
Great video guys, seems hard work but i bet it's worth it, it would have been nice to have known a price comparison if the marina had done it if you did ask.
Hey, we live on the boat full time and dont have a house :) If you check out our earlier vlogs you can see the process of us moving from our house to the boat

Oh me of little faith! Not only did you survive your first time blacking, you made an instructional vlog too!
😂 it was a bit hectic but we managed to scrape together a vlog and instructional video! 😅
Well I've seen other vids on blacking before but this is the most realistic and has the little things to watch out for. Thanks guys 🙂

Ahh thank you!! 🥹 ooo that’s a great idea! We’ll have to keep that in mind!
Definitely mint sauce in the gravy and bread to dip in it !!!
Great video guys, seems hard work but i bet it's worth it, it would have been nice to have known a price comparison if the marina had done it if you did ask.
Oh that’s a good idea!! Sadly we didn’t think of that. Thanks for watching though!
Awesome, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
This video was really interesting.
Great job, Some of those throw away coveralls would have been good. also an angle grinder rather than the multitool.
Oo yes that’s a good shout! We’ve seen a few people using those!
Good advice! 🙏🤗❤️ Kathy
Thank you!!🥰
Good job thanks for sharing….
Thanks for watching!
Hi guys did u get your weed hatch resealed with tape just thought I.ll mention stay safe .
Oo we didn’t actually but that’s a good point! We might do that ourselves soon! Thanks!
Very good, did you put a seal on your weed hatch?
There was already one there so we just checked to make sure it was all good 👍🏻
How do you black where the boat is supported? (IE straps)
They lower them down so they aren't strapped onto the boat and then they offset the position of the wooden supports so you can get everywhere 😊
Hi you have a house as well as a narrow boat so you do video at home and blogs on and about the narrow boat
Hey, we live on the boat full time and dont have a house :) If you check out our earlier vlogs you can see the process of us moving from our house to the boat
like watching paint dry...a very important part of owning a boat and keeping the paint in good condition...
For sure! thanks for watching 😊
After wire brushing, do you not use a rust converter to kill the rust before blacking?
You can do if you have a lot of time, but it’s not completely necessary due to the type of paint! 😊 (we were told anyway)
Well not useful because I live in a house. ……But very interesting! That’s a lot of boat! Your arms must have been aching at the end of it!
