No other photo could illustrate better what the Swing Era was about than this casual master snapshot at 1:05. Listening to Benny playing Duke and hearing liltin' Miss Tilton let that song go out of her heart, a feeling goes out of my heart, a feeling that this was the greatest era in American history. I wish I would have been there.
This is from one of Benny's CBS "CAMEL CARAVAN" {"Benny Goodman's Swing School"} broadcasts in the spring of 1938. I believe Dan Seymour is the announcer, as this originated from New York.
Goodman's "Biting Brass," James, Elman and Griffin marvelous as always -- open-horned or with those Ellingtonian mutes. The tempo's a bit brisker here than on the BG studio recording. Great arrangement.
oh man.....just perfect

Свинг прекрасен! Swing is wonderful in all times and for all ages!
This is fantastic! Also, love her rendition of "I Hadn't Anyone Til You."
Martha's great. Great post. Thanks again.
on top of everything else, Goodman was also outstanding at finding singers so supreme vocal stylists, even his band had to work to keep up with them;
Memories memories.....Thanks

Why do people post comments when they don't know what they are talking about? She was born in Texas. Her third husband had been a pilot in WWII.
Martha was not only a good singer, but she wasn't tough to look at either
born in corpus, tx
Does anyone know what the theme song/jingle is at the beginning of the video?
Vocal
She sings great. I think she was born in Italy and married an American war hero.
