How to get HIGH SHADOWS on LOW SETTINGS [PATCHED] | CS2 afap

- With the update of 5/23/2024, this trick NO LONGER WORKS, unfortunately.
Shadow advantage positions/angles are everywhere in CS2, especially on Nuke, Ancient and Vertigo. To see these shadows, you have to set 'global shadow quality' to HIGH or VERY HIGH. If you get too little FPS when playing on HIGH, you can enable them in 'Steam\userdata\ID\730\local\cfg\cs2_video.txt'.

Thankyou, this is what I was looking for. The prebaked shadows on low already looking good enough for me, just needed the dynamic shadows to stay on.

Additionally, I use +80% digital vibrance, but I don't think that's recorded in the videos otherwise it would stack with other users who turned up digital vibrance.

thanks man! I have a good pc (i5-12600kf + 2080ti 6000mhz ddr5) but these settings gave me 10-20~ fps more which is quite good
on empty mirage on T spawn (fps locked at 501) it was like 440-450 now it's almost 470~ (upd. i've checked fps on pug and it was much more than before, i've never seen fps below 330 o_o)
1280x960 stretched, CMAA2, ambient occlusion off, models on medium, HDR on performance, rest is low, reflex + boost
yeah and the most amazing thing is that I can clearly see these focking shadows without using global shadows.. man u da g thank you so much ❤️
Cmaa2 bad. Just use 2x. You can’t see through certain metal textures on cmaa
Did this get patched? Seems like the quality cant be altered even though I changed the values.

One question. If i do as you say, change these numbers of shadow width and stuff in cs2_video, and if I put shadow quality setting on LOW because of fps, can i still see shadows?

Today i got cs2 game ban, i think it should be a false banned. Do you think this is the problem? But, when i play, the shadow casting is set to 0 default, and i use High on Shadow right now. Please lemme know when the false banned get lifted. Thanks anyway

Seems like it's been patched, can you confirm? I did those exact settings and the shadows are on low, so I can only see them up close but not at a distance.

New video.txt settings removed all of these extra lines..
Even you add the shadows line it didn't work, they've patched it

This actually still works but instead of cs2_video.txt you do it under cs2_video.txt.bak file in the same folder

I set the shadows LOW, I changed the txt and I still don't see the shadows?
Make sure to change the text-file while the game is closed. Look for this specific line using CTRL+F and change the value to 1:
"setting.lb_enable_shadow_casting"

I did use the movie like this but after I saved the txt file and opened the game, the shadows are still not there or do I have to change the file to only?
@@Siaomo999 Read-only is not necessary, simply saving should be enough. Could be that you changed it for the wrong account. You can check the right ID at steamrep.com under 'steam3ID' for the subfolder 'Steam\userdata\ID\...'
@@FNScence After all I've been playing for 5000 hours I can't even get userdata mixed up with my own steam digital ID number and I've only logged into one user on this computer, I'm trying to see what might be wrong, do you know if ANCIENT's T-side Deep cave smoke won't go in, is there any other way to get it to go in? It's too overpowering.

If you want to have the lowest settings for max fps and still see shadows, yes it's the best option.

This setting goes to 0/off after couple deathmatches. How to keep it on?
Try putting the file in read-only mode after the changes.

*To increase shadow resolution you can change the following 3 lines:*
"setting.lb_shadow_texture_width_override" low: 1024, medium: 1536, high: 2048, very high: 4096
"setting.lb_shadow_texture_height_override" low: 1024, medium: 1536, high: 3072, very high: 6144
"setting.lb_barnlight_shadowmap_scale" low/medium: 0.25, high: 0.5, very high: 1

@@sebinicusor7000 It will affect performance. It's just in case you want higher model shadow quality while on low or medium global shadows.
Does the numeric value depend on high or low shadow settings or can we use very high numbers for low shadows?
@@-Centaureissi Very high values on low global shadows will result on very high shadows for player models and low for everything else.

it works well but there's some moments where the game crashes and I got a vac message saying that some archives have different values

No i only changed the value on the cfg commands not in game.
the bad part is that I unninstaled and installed the game back but still unnable to fix the issues. :c

I didn't benchmark it myself, but even if your system needs every fps boost it can get, model shadows should not be deactivated as you'd give away a huge advantage.
If anyone did test fps differences, feel free to share.

In the userdata folder there are folders for any accounts that you have logged into from that PC. The folder names are different for every account.

No, it's just like changing your crosshair in configs instead of in the menus. You are changing video settings that are in the game, but not displayed in such detail in the settings menu.

@@FNScence i even hit some clips the night before if you want to see them, i didnt use any hacks i only changed these settings and got vac banned lol, but idc done with this shit game anyway :)
@@LeroyTDF Seems like many people are getting wrongfully banned today, probably because of faulty drivers or some sort. If you are one of them, your ban will be lifted soon.
