We go to OC two weeks every year and a long weekend. One week in summer then Thanksgiving week. Off season we do Christmas shopping at Rohobeth Beach, Salisbury Mall and outlet on route 50. Fagers Island and a some other restaurants open all year long Pop Corn store on boardwalk open 12 months a year. Have to be carefully purchasing salt water taffies off season. Got stuck with 3 stale boxes from Dolly's.
Im from Nj from the time i was 18-26 me and my friends went every single year we always stayed at the seascape. Peppers was the bar right underneath it was a little run down bar but man the memories we made there were amazing. The hurricanes and covid really messed so many great things up along the east coast boardwalks. Great video really took me back a few years to some great times
lived in MD all my life until 4 years ago now in FL. Used to go to OC 2 3 times a year and is the biggest thing that I miss. I like the off season the best and OCT. to May before Memorial day. Favorite place to stay was Quality inn on 54. The kids loved the indoor pool and I the cafe bar. Thanks for posting brings back good memories.
I'm 67 and I've been going to OCMD ever since I was a young kid in the early 60s. It's been about 17 years since I've been there, though. It's amazing to see how that town has changed in the last half-century. It used to be a quaint little beach town; now I call it Fort Lauderdale North because of the tremendous crowds during the summer. Back then there was no Route 90 bridge, and no "Condo Row"; Bobby Baker's Carousel Hotel was was wayyy up at 118th Street where there was nothing else at the time. They used to have an indoor ice skating rink. It was an amazing place that only rich people stayed at. I've stayed at a bunch of the old oceanfront motels, as well as some luxury high-rise condos in later years. Never disappointed. Restaurants I remember: Phillips (of course!), The Embers, The Bonfire, Marios (upscale Italian restaurant), English's Chicken, the Chinese joint around 25th street, Happy Jack pancake house, Hooper's Crab House, and a bunch of others. Bars I remember: The Jackspot Lounge, Big Pecker's, The Beach Club, the Bearded Clam, The Paddock Nite Club (boy was that a throwback!), Seacrets had just opened. Some others died with some of my brain cells. I sure had some amazing nocturnal adventures there in my late 20s. The "old" Ocean City is gone...long live the "new" OCMD.
My father in law has those same memories! It's hard to even imagine at one point there was nothing but sand dunes until the Carousel. It's been so built up over the years but many of the same spots you mentioned are still here, even the ice skating rink!
Stayed at the Seascape many times. Was a little run down towards the end but it was always clean and we basically just used the room for sleeping. And it was so much cheaper, even in summer, than the Hyatt. Miss it.
Can't get enough of all O C update videos Hope to be there Presidents weekend should time for the city to clean up the snow ur getting this weekend need a place to stay
Thanks for the update. We just started to come down to OC last several years. I remember JR'S Ribs always ate there when I was in OC. I still have one of those boot glass you could get when you would buy a beer
Try the Sahara Cafe on 19 & Phila Ave Tell them Jim said the philly steak omelette or the big stack of blueberry pancakes are the best in MD. And fantastic menu. You may not have to eat the rest of the day
Thanks for the update. We're heading there today for the Christmas Park light show. Staying at the Aloft. Usually do The Hilton or the big Holiday Inn on the beach.
OC pissed me off this past Christmas show. I'm old and have problem with my knees and can not walk the long path to see the festival of lights so had to miss it. Can not understand how they could have had a limited # of tram cars with plexiglass shields and making sure people riding them showed proof of the two vaccines along with wearing a mask. Heard the $5 they charge does not pay for the 750,000 lights they put up. OC has so many very good restaurants and outside of bike week a quiet town.
I don't remember the name of the little motel that the Hyatt replaced. I know there was a peppers restaurant in the basement, and that Franco's pizza was in the ground floor.
The little Italian restaurant 😍 they have the best Tiramisu. They give you big portions of food that is just amazing and they have many creative alcoholic drinks.
The Hyatt is where the Seascape Motel was. The same owners of that pizza place own this pizza place. They are from Brooklyn NY. The outdoor seating is very nice there in the summer and the indoor bar is great to get out of the sun and have a cold beer and some thin crust NYC pizza. I go there a few times when I’m down in August.
Peppers was in that area where Jay was at. Remember it was downstairs from the boards. You walked off the boards and downstairs. They had GREAT bloody Mary’s.
Brass Balls does have great breakfast and lunch specials. There happy hour prices are nice also. I like going upstairs to the bad ass cafe and sitting outside up there. Plus free ping pong up there!
@@ReelJayB I believe from the video yes. Prior the collectibles and gift shop was on the left facing the stores and the yarn was to the right, they had an internal doorway connecting them. The shop below still carries a year round collection of Halloween and Christmas decorations I think.
@@ReelJayB and have you been to Sunset Park? Simple, small. We bike ride to it early mornings than go to a restaurant called Restaurant nearby. There is a motel above and around the restaurant.
I haven't on the boardwalk because I think most are closed, but I can double check. I'm editing a video now that should be put out tomorrow or Friday and it will have some businesses with decorations.
Actually Jessica’s fudge moved farther up the boardwalk! They didn’t go out of business, but I can’t remember what street they moved to, I believe up by a bike rental place. Also the military/ American store that use to be in the village moved up the boardwalk on a side street. Nevermind about Jessica’s I didn’t watch the whole video😂
I love Ocean city but when I was there this year a lot of stuff just seemed old and run down a lot of the motels and building stuff just needs updated how often do they do that?
@@ReelJayB ahhh I see then. I also seen at the end of your video they were tearing up part of the boardwalk are they replacing it? I’m sure all the salt water takes a toll on everything.
@@314biggy The salt and abuse destroy it. They were "patching" rotted out boards, but the bigger portion is replacing the ones at the end of the boardwalk (what was shown in the video). They usually have to fix it every 10 years.
@@ReelJayB we found sellos last year I believe so can't speak for the prior owners but we enjoyed it greatly, went twice the week we were in. Looking for to going back this summer. By the way your videos I've seen of off season make me want to bring the wife for a nice weekend.
Was on the boardwalk numerous times while they were building high rise millons if dollars of hotels with mostly foreigners and American foreman. Don't know how they get away with that. They work hard and appear to do very nice work but rather see a USA tax paying citizen performing this work.
Thanks for all the updates. I really in joy see your undate videos from the beach. One of my favorite places to be especially in the off season
Thanks Don! The off season is the best time!
Hearing you talk about tattooing in OC, reminded me of late '90s Ocean City.. when every store there got into henna tattooing. Good times.

this is probably my favorite place out there. It looks so empty in the winter, and in the summer it is so filled

My father in law loved JR's....have you tried Nick's House Of Ribs?
Thanks for the updates! I still miss Tuby's!!! Best pizza cheesesteak ever, no one else makes it even close!!!
Have you tried Tony Luke's cheesesteaks? I hear they are real good but haven't tried them.
That's awesome thanks for the updates
Cool video! Thanks for the info, I added a few restaurants to the must visit list, especially breakfast at Brass Ball Saloon!
Your going to love brass balls! Try to get a seat outside so you can watch the boardwalk. Let me know what you think!
Try the Sahara Cafe on 19 & Phila Ave

Looking forward to it buddy!!
That Italian place has pretty good pasta and wraps. I would just double check the meat if you get anything that’s abit thick.
I love Brass Ball Saloon. It's haunted. Best shrimp tacos.
The Hotel with the pool in the center I think was a Bet Western. It was U shaped. Looked like a dive!
Just found you, thanks for the tour

Loved the Santa Maria and Edward's. Think both are gone now.

I'm not sure, it looks like only 1 or 2 of the 7 buildings have been leased. Hopefully they will be ready to go by June.

Try Fratelli's in Salisbury if you have some time. Excellent food, best crab cakes I've ever had.
