I used to know a girl I went to church with who needed a babydoll like this because she would never be able to have kids due to an intellectual disability and physical disabilities that limited her, so she was taken care of by her parents. She carried that doll with ever everywhere, loved it, took care of it like a mother would. She was an incredibly sweet girl and I wish I had interacted with her more when I was a kid, people like her deserve friends no matter what reality they live in. Every single human is deserving of love, care, empathy, and patience.

I disagree with the "every, single human is deserving of love, care, empathy, and patience" part, but I've met people like the one you've described. Other than their mental illness, they were very decent, loving people who DID deserve those things. I just think there's a line and, for one, pedos are on the other side of it.

It's Mom's responsibility to explain that things get misplaced, and just because they're misplaced and you find it and someone who has no connection to it tells you you can keep it doesn't mean that its not a beloved object to the person who it belongs to and that they should be given it back, no matter the circumstances. It wasn't the hospital's to give away, period. He also must have been really freaking out internally when he saw the baby doll with the little girl, so he was probably just concerned about his patient and not thinking about anything else.

I wouldn’t have said that it’s hospital property. I would’ve said that it belongs to another patient (because it does) and it wasn’t theirs to give away.

i would have explained to the girl that the doll belongs to someone else who really needs it back, then offered to buy the girl another doll to make up for it, not rip it out her arms

Chicago Med did a similar episode to this. The woman thought the doll was her baby. It turns out the baby was stillborn or died shortly after she gave birth and she passed out while it happened so she never came to terms with the loss. The doctors staged a whole thing where they hooked the doll up to the machines, then it flatlined, they made an effort to save her but couldn't and finally pronounced the "baby" dead. The mother saw the whole thing and was finally able to properly grieve and start moving on.

Well, nurses deal with a lot of stress and are always super busy. And he actually took a lot of time out of his busy workday looking for the doll. He let his frustration get the better of him, saying things he didn't really mean, but it was in part because he felt so guilty. And in the end he realized how important the doll was to her.

Well I wouldn't say never. Patient belongings to sometimes get lost. That's why hospitals tell you they aren't responsible for your belongings, because things can happen
