    Thank you so much! This is how my elder aunts and grandma cooked fried chicken! PAN FRIED! None of this 8 ingredient complicated deep fried b.s. ! I sat thru 10 videos before I found this! Thanks! Why are all the old simple ways disapearing? They always cut up their own chickens too!

    That's exactly how my mom fried chicken when I was growing up. She used just plain old vegetable oil with flour, salt & pepper. Nothing fancy, but it sure tasted good! I never heard my Father complain. LOL!

      Of course Dad didn't complain. Ma was holding the frying pan! I'll bet she could hit a home run out of the park with that thing.

    My granny pan fried chicken most every sunday after church. She didn't use as much oil though. She kept a paper towel nearby to blot the blood off. I'd look forward to a chicken liver video with gravy, she did those often too. With pone biscuits of course! 😄

    Thanks for the reminder about keeping cooking simple, yet tasteful. I used to shake my chicken in the old paper grocery bags with my seasoned flour, then fry in thin layer of peanut oil.
    Now I like frying in coconut oil, more stable at heat and does not soak into the food as much, none of the coconut smells either. It is a MCT type oil (medium chain triglycerides).
    Have a great New Year sir and audience!

    Thank you Lord for catching him in time, for help with his heart! Good to see you back OldManCooking!Love peanut oil for cooking. Can take the heat and is pretty neutral flavored.You do your chicken just like I do mine in method. I mix flour and potato starch, and fry a second time for extra crispy. I often add sage, onion, and garlic powder to either the chicken itself, or to the flour mix. And you are right. Turning often is the key, to just the right color. Also helps chick to cook evenly.May God Bless your health, for many years.

      Keep trying, Michael! Practice makes perfect. A tip: Make sure the oil is nice n hot before you put the chicken in. You can test it by dropping in a small piece of bread to see if it sizzles.

    My father had a chicken dinner restaurant during the depression and was offered the job of "fried chicken chef" at the Coconut Grove (which he turned down). He fried his chicken in chicken fat and had a few more "rules" than this video, but it was essentially the same, and was the best fried chicken I have ever had. He actually killed and plucked the chickens right before frying them and his "The Red Lantern" Chicken Dinner Tavern in Salem Oregon had a chicken coop out back. He shook the pieces in a paper bag with the flour in it (yes, with the salt and pepper mixed in). He was very insistent that the pieces be packed closely in the pan, and I believe he always started bone side down (or maybe bone side up! -- I wish he was here now to ask but he would be 114 years old!) Anyway, I know it was important. He put the lid on, and when it was crispy and brown, turned it over and finished with the lid off. It took about 45 minutes, I remember. It all had a perfect crispy but thin skin and was very tender and tasty. I can't stand that extra thick stuff on the Colonel's chicken!

    Looks delicious pops. Have to tell you a quick short story. Roughly 20 years ago I worked at kentucky fried chicken as a young lad. So we had an extremely rude, belligerent customer in drive thru cussing at everyone. So I bounced a chicken gizzard off of his forehead. Worked like a charm never saw that mean cuss again.

    Old man cooks his chicken three different ways; one without any buttermilk, and one using buttermilk, and one using regular whole milk with Greek yogurt.
    I’ll have to decide which method to use .
    I don’t have a wok; I have a ninja foodie; and I have a cast iron pan.

    • @kizzyrichards593
      @kizzyrichards593 3 місяці тому

      If there is too much flour on your chicken the flour will fall off. Knock off the excess flour before putting it in the grease. If your oil is too hot the flour will fall off.
