The high point of Blair county is the top of Schaefer Head mountain. A big thank you to the Fiore family for granting me permission to hike to the high point as well as the Barnes family for advice on hiking in. Multiple people I spoke to ahead of time said “watch out for rattlesnakes on Schaefer Head mountain” but unfortunately we didn’t get to see any. I was joined by my friend Bryan Pearson. This was my 3rd climb on this day with a heat advisory in effect. Temps were over 90 degrees. At the top of the mountain we identified a Red Oak tree that stood out as the tallest. I made the climb and had a really great view of the fern-covered forest below. Typically, ferns are frowned upon in forestry. Most are native to PA but in some instances they begin to dominate the forest and prevent new trees from sprouting. That said, I found the view they created to be quite beautiful on this day.

No offence but from my personal point of view you definitely spelled Shaffer wrong in the description .😍😇 Good climb keep them coming.
