Thanks fellas, If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it! I just love the look of a stock airbox/can for that real stealthy look.
I love the attention to detail you put into all of your work! Most people only do things the quick and easy way, its refreshing to see someone who will go the extra mile to achieve exactly what they want. I respect that.
Sick! I've truly never seen so much dedication in a sleeper... the ideas you come up with are great. But it's the part that you actually make it work and do it the right way that is insanely awesome! I look up to you for your craftsmanship!
Another great video. Not only are you knowledgeable and do neat, clean work (a man after my own heart), but you also shoot and edit some fine videos. That there, my friends, is what you call a Renaissance Man.
Thanks for another great upload Tom, personally I really needed this one today. My day at work was draggin and I was falling asleep (nearly) til I noticed this upload, needless to say it woke me right back up. Can't wait for more, I wish I could be there in person for the work just to witness perfection in the making lol...
@TomsTurboGarage great videos. I personally am doing a build quite similar and would love to see a video on how you set up that evo maf in the gvr4 air can.
You do EXCELLENT work! I mean that! However in my humble opinion to anyone who may be watching this video, you should have installed an aftermarket AFPR. the stock fuel pressure regulator can be easily over run, especially during idle and low boost conditions with something like a Walbro 255 shoveling fuel through it, making tuning incredibly difficult and possibly even dumping fuel back into the manifold once the diaphragm rips!! Just one small thing I observed that could have been done differently, thanks for the videos!
Awesome job Tom! You and Jafromobile are my favorite channels to watch, and i"m not even a DSM guy! I'm a diehard Ford Mustang Foxbody fanatic! keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for the very kind words! I like RoadKill too. If I could get a budget of some sort I would love to go on road trips with a film crew like they do.
Oh man am I in love with you car! Good stuff Tom I did not expect the evo mas. Your fuel injector size is beautiful for the build! I wish I could stand next to, look and admire the sleeping beauty. Screens don't do the justice deserved. But, it will do for now. Hopefully someday I could gaze upon it at the DSM Shootout if your into that, either this year or possibly next.
Awesome work! The only thing i'd do different is use a dry flow filter instead of a K&N that close to the MAF sensor. Seen too many of those sensors get killed from the filter's oil.
Great video series! It may not suit your stealthly look but it advisable to add a fuse at the battery +ve terminal end of the relay pwr wire to your fuel pump relay. Cheers
Thank you for the kind words Santiago! I suppose I've had lots of mentors in my time, thank you for mentioning that, it's made me reflect on those who've graciously helped me over the years. I need to thank them more often.
just an added note: Read your service manual on how to release the Pressure in the system, usually you open the filler, disconnect the main relay (or power to pump) and consume the leftover fuel in the lines. if you forget this step, you better have eye-protection and a ton of shop rags ;) (learned the hard way)
Thank you sir, I don't have a specific number in mind, as some of these stealthy mods are counter-productive to ultimate power production. I'll be happy with whatever I get.
Another impressive and interesting video, Tom. Good job! I have a question: You're all over the car, making changes here and there, so do you test your car to make sure it still runs before going on to another area? If not, it would be a bad thing if you had a malfunction (despite your meticulous attention to detail) and you had to figure out where the problem is. I'm eagerly waiting for you newest video! I want to see this baby run!
Thank you Rick, I appreciate that! I prefer to work that way, making only one or two small changes and then testing, but when taking on a bigger project like this you don't have the luxury of doing that. I just go way over the top with my checklists and quadruple checking everything I do to try and avoid mistakes/rework.
Another AWSOME VID. My 2jzgte gs300 has a wally 400 with that same wiring kit. It really is an AWSOME kit. What other electronics are you going to add to the vr4? Also are you going to run water or water/meth injection?
Hi Ryan and thank you! Yes I will be running Methanol injection- that will be the next video. I'll be doing an engine management video in the near future too.
I think mounting the boost gauge in the glove box actually adds a significant amount of power. Cuz why would you need to hide it if your ride wasn't balls out crazy? Love it.
Quick question Tom if you dont mind. When ordering a walbro fuel pump kit, do I choose the 1g install kit for a direct fit? Also, will a stock 1g fuel pump or 2g work as a replacement for the galant?
I really like that you use professional products. The pee blaster and nitril gloves are a staple in my shop. Do you happen to know where I can get a stock 91 talon tsi awd front bumper cover from? Can't find them and mine has a bad nose job. Btw if u can find it dejon made a giant side mount for sneaky I have one and it works well.
Hi Tom, 852/1000 here. Wanted to say that I think you do great work and I'm impressed with the progress on your galant so far. I also have a question, you mentioned that the new (850cc)injectors were direct replacements. Do they require an external means of control or do you already have ecmlink installed? Also are you recirculating the charge air or venting to the atmosphere? Thanks and keep up the great work :D
Hi there and good to meet a fellow VR-4 owner! Thank you for the kind words and yes the 850s do require engine management. I'll be covering that in a couple videos from now. I'm recirculating the BOV since I'm using a MAF and to keep things looking stock.
Tom I have been waiting to for this video, I also wanted to if I can use a 96 gst air flow sensor or should I use a gm set up I have I'm converting my gs galant in to a gst, here in US there are very limited vr4
Those two sensors have pros and cons. I think the Mitsubishi sensors make more sense, but that's my opinion. Read this for more info: www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/airflowoptions Good luck!
I wish you could help me do my twin turbo conversion i am about to do on my 3000, finally have all of the parts but im just too nervous to start, cant wait for the next video!
Tom, how many black plastic spacers are there between the fuel rail and head? I just took mine off and I only see two. Not sure if i dropped one or not.
That auto-meter boost gauge is the old one from the Buick! I'm really interested to see how it all works, especially he exhaust. I've never heard of putting a wastegate back there.. It works the same as a cut-out, right? Just opens automatically when it senses that it's under high boost? Love the vids Tom. Keep it up please!
Thanks man and yes, I believe it is! I actually have a couple extras. Yes, the wastegate just works just like an electric cutout, it just uses boost instead of electricity.
Thanks for responding. So essentially, when the exhaust-mounted-wastegate sees boost over a certain PSI, it will open? That's very clever! I love your videos. They encourage me to work on my own cars! I just added a 1st gen DSM (1990 Plymouth Laser RS!!) to the stable, so I will be watching these videos especially closely. Unfortunately, mine is FWD and N/A, but still with the 4G63 and 5 speed. It's pretty quick as it is, but it needs some work. I'm thinking of some sort of 2.5" Mandrel-bent catback-exhaust, a REAL cold air intake, not one of those cone filters on the end of a piece of pipe like most companies sell, cams, and some sort of a tune. Does ECM-link make a Naturally aspirated form of tune? I'd like to get one, if possible. I'm also looking to lower it a little, since the stock 25 year old struts/shocks are blown. I have had good luck with Bilstein in the past, and I'm hoping to find some sporty shocks. Either Bilstein, Koni, or Tokico, hopefully, paired with some slight lowering springs. I'd really like a set of 2G Eclipse wheels, I like them a lot! I may end up turboing the car. I'm looking into the 4G63 NA to Turbo swap. I'm hoping to keep the cost down as much as I can, since it is a daily driver, but.. that turbo sound on your talon is so mean! So much inspiration! I especially love the sound of DSMs with open o2 dumps! Thanks again Tom. I really really appreciate all the videos, they're wonderful. You're a really really nice guy. :]
LMAO...love the hidden evo maf. Link must be next, so is the afpr since the stock fpr isn't going to cut it. Wideband too....Tom, you are working on that sleeper status. BTW, the ETS I sold you, I just bought it back...lmao
With the fuel pump wiring relay, isn't it less than ideal to not run it directly to the pump? You ran it to the outside of the FP housing that still leaves a few inches of oem small gauge wiring...
Hey Tom, I just to mod my MAF and air can years ago, but viewing your channel inspired me in trying fot fit my "better" MAFinto the stock 1G air cam. And now while I'm having everything lying in front of me - everything's dissassembled - I'm not sure to fit it into the air can the most elegant way. In the past I just built an adapter plate which I fitted in the bottom of a stock air can (where the plug and the connection to the MAF-to-turbo-intake hose used to be), but this was always a pretty 'less elegant' solution and I lost valuable space for intercooler and turbo piping... so can you give me any hints or show some pics of how you fitted the Evo MAF into the air can? Oh, btw, I'm curious if there are any significant differences if you took the MAF from a Galant, Carisma, 2G Eclispe or whatever looks identical exept for the parts number above on the sticker. Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.... and again, I want to say how much I love your channels - the DSM ones the most of course - because it gives one the feeling to be took by the hand and make a humorous "this it how it's done clean and properly" walkthrough with explanations which even I understand *ggg* Kind regards, your fan Ibo from Hamburg, Germany
Hi Ibrahim and thank you for the very kind words! I'm glad that you enjoy my videos and find them helpful too. Regarding installing the Evo MAF into a 1G air can, it was really a labor of love. I never would've imagined that anyone would've wanted to see that process, or I would've documented it. In order to get it to fit, I had to drastically modify the Evo MAF and the back of the Aircan. I made sure it looks stock and all, but I put many hours of work into it. Honestly, if this is your street car I would suggest running a simple and easily serviceable open element air filter with the Evo Maf. Here are a few examples and the power they made. Good luck! www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/390973-air-filter-shootout-test-results.html As for the interchangeability, I do know that the Evo Maf and the 3G Eclipse MAF is the same. A 2G MAF is a good upgrade, but not the same as an Evo/3G Eclipse MAF. Enjoy your car and have a good one! -Tom
Hey Tom, have you tuned SD yourself yet? If you ever wanted to go SD, I could set it up for you. Drivability would still be great. I've done it for a couple guys on my local forum already.
Thank you for the kind offer! I have tuned SD and ran it on my Talon. It worked perfectly and I loved how it ran. At this conservative power level, the MAF just made more sense to me.
Tom i have a few questions for you i know you love dsm's. I would like to know what you think about people saying Dsm's are Very very unreliable i was thinking about buying one but i do not want to be fixing it on a weekly bases most people give there cars a 2 on reliability. I was thinking about a dsm or a Subaru or a GIT old 80's-90.
As with any performance car, they are only as reliable as their service history and how they've been cared for over the years. I have found them to be extremely reliable, especially given what is asked of them (doubling or tripling the horsepower on mostly stock-type parts) but I am a stickler for proper maintenance and only buy old Mitsus that have a full service history and with no prior modifications. Good luck with your decision!
you sir are amazing. i love sleepers. also i just found three vr-4s being sold close to me after looking for years. the only problem is when i finally find them im broke. im one sad man right now :(
one is number 221/2000 for $1000 but needs work. dont know what number the other two are but they are in very good condition, one for $4000 and one for $3000
Hi, i own Škoda Octavia 97' (No japan, Europian, Czech car) its based on VW Bora/Golf IV with AEE 1.6L engine, 5speed, no turbo. I plan to make sleeper but the choices for tuning over here are small. Can or Do you know any US. company what makes custom parts for this car? I know it's bit hard question, but your work is just excelent and you may know some. Have a nice day and thanks.
Hi there and since we don't have those here in the states, I have never heard of parts made for them here. Good luck on your search and you might need to use more universal parts and adapt them to fit.
Ild love to go to the shootout. Just gotta round up my funds and get the wifes Talon running. My talon will need more time unfortunetly, gotta get a new motor that I can make mine in everyway. Torn between 3 by making just enough, balls out, or completely OEM head to toe front to back with dual piston calipers from a 2g.
tom, I haven't ready all of the comments so I'm not sure if others have already suggested this but I would really like to see a test drive after videos like this. Did you turn the boost up at all? How's the evo Maf feel?
i remember my DSM….. went to put in new injectors didn't replace the O rings …… car almost burned to the ground lol lesson learned don't skip out and cut corners !!!!!!!
Right. Tinkering with the fuel system can result in burning up your car if you're not super careful. That's what happened to a friend of mine. He replaced his injectors and his car caught on fire (and was totaled) due to a fuel leak.
Holy crap, that air can is genius.
ya, that's some slick work
Thanks fellas, If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it! I just love the look of a stock airbox/can for that real stealthy look.
Tom's Turbo Garage Does the stock airbox not negate the point of installing a highflow filter?
Tom's Turbo Garage just got one of those torque wrenches Omg awsome
Keep the stealthiness coming Tom! You're an inspiration to every DSM/ gear head.
Thank you for the kind words Britton!
I love the attention to detail you put into all of your work! Most people only do things the quick and easy way, its refreshing to see someone who will go the extra mile to achieve exactly what they want. I respect that.
Thanks man, I appreciate you saying that!

Thanks for another great upload Tom, personally I really needed this one today. This may be your most impressive build yet!
Thanks Daniel!
Looking awesome! Another great production with a One of a Kind ride. Looking forward to your next update.
Thank you sir!
Ive watched every episode of the Street Sleeper. Clean Galant
Thanks Damir, glad you're enjoying them!
Dude you are absolutely a genius.
Thanks man! I printed your comment out and showed my wife.
awesome work on the air filter and MAF!
Thanks Mike, If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it!
@TomsTurboGarage great videos. I personally am doing a build quite similar and would love to see a video on how you set up that evo maf in the gvr4 air can.
Came back to watch it twice.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey just found this channel. Your doing the Engine Gods work. Production value is out the park.
Thanks man and welcome!
this video series is incredible. Thanks for posting
You are truly talented my friend. This is your best PSS video yet.
Thank you Josh, glad you enjoyed it!
I wish your videos came out a lot sooner, love watching, and I bet its hard and takes time to make vids as good as you. keep um coming.
Thank you for saying that, yes they are time consuming to make and time is becoming harder to come by, but I'm glad you enjoy them!
Awesome job Tom! You and Jafromobile are my favorite channels to watch, and i"m not even a DSM guy! I'm a diehard Ford Mustang Foxbody fanatic! keep up the awesome work!
Thank you Alejandro and I love the Fox body Mustangs too! I still miss mine. Have a good one!
love your job.. nice explaining and stuff : ]
Love these videos. Always cheers me up when i watch them. Cool to see pepole like me work on cars. Modus on the sneaky mods!
Thanks man, glad I can help!
That MAF install. Real clean!
Thanks man! If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it!
This is so cool! I've always liked stealthy/sleeper cars. Damn, much respect to you sir!
Thank you sir, glad you are enjoying it!
Tom is the ultimate in sleeper.... unless someone watches his videos then the jig is up.
Haha, thank you Jeff! Very true!
I thought Roadkill was the best show on You Tube- until I found yours. Your cars are awesome! I love sleepers.
Thank you for the very kind words! I like RoadKill too. If I could get a budget of some sort I would love to go on road trips with a film crew like they do.
Awesome video as always. I am a huge fan of your channel!
More great work Tom. Also there it looks like
Thanks Chris!
Just watched every ep of street sleeper back to back haha
Very nice work :)
That filter and mass air flow is amazing. Super sneaky.
Thanks Jacob! If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it!
I used to be a DSM guy and that would have been a great mod to do.
another awesome video Tom, can't wait until i see it running. great job
Thank you sir!
tom great work, i like the sneaky air set up
Thank you John!
Sneaky sneaky sneaky, and I love it. Makes me miss my DSM.
Thanks Justin! Glad you enjoyed it.
I like the MAF upgrade. Great idea.
Thanks Joseph! If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it!

That STOCK air can. My gosh. Some great work right there.
Thank you sir! If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it!
Great work filled with inspiration
Thank you and have fun with your car!
Awesome work! The only thing i'd do different is use a dry flow filter instead of a K&N that close to the MAF sensor. Seen too many of those sensors get killed from the filter's oil.
Thank you and I've actually ordered a dry filter, as the K&N was more of a prototype setup to get the fit right and all.
Like always, Love the videos. Amazing work! Thank you
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video series! It may not suit your stealthly look but it advisable to add a fuse at the battery +ve terminal end of the relay pwr wire to your fuel pump relay. Cheers
Hi Richard and thank you! The wire has a fuse at the battery side.
How sneaky will you be, well that sneaky! Great Tom!!!!
Haha, thanks Joppie!
Nice work as always!
Thank you Dan!
Great intake idea keep up the good work.
Thank you Darren!
Well, Its Sunday and its raining with a tornado watch outside, guess I have to stay inside today and watch TTG. =)
carl shneebly Thanks for watching man!
who was your mentor? you show class all the way not to mention how you can connect to the average guy!!
Thank you for the kind words Santiago! I suppose I've had lots of mentors in my time, thank you for mentioning that, it's made me reflect on those who've graciously helped me over the years. I need to thank them more often.

ohhh man... you do a really great job on this!! can't wait to see it running!! :))
Thank you!
By the way, love the air box (air can) setup!!
Thanks man!
yes another great video tom!!! Love watching your videos at work :)
Thank you Scott!
"While I was in there". :) b
Haha! That phrase has gotten me in more trouble than I care to admit. ;-D
+Tom's Turbo Garage this commercial came up while waiting to watch one of your videos! And then I see your comment. Lol
That filter and maf mod looks fantastic tho!
Thanks man! If I knew everyone would get such a big kick out of that I would've filmed some of the process of making it!
I hope you put a fuse on that power lead near the battery. I didn't see one when you were connecting it up.
Excellent work Tom. What's your estimate on the HP and TQ gains once she's all finished up?
Thank you sir, I don't have a specific number in mind, as some of these stealthy mods are counter-productive to ultimate power production. I'll be happy with whatever I get.

Super clean vr4 , the fuel pump cover looks like New no rust!!!! Im desperate to hear how it sounds!!!!
Thanks man, me too!
Hooray, it's up ;)
That's what she said... ;-)
Haha, thanks Ivan.
Tom's Turbo Garage Kinda make me sad because you only see this after a week ;) When is the next sleeper video? I can't wait anymore argggh! =p
How nice is it that fuel pump assembly is in the trunk? Don't you usually have to drop the gas tank to do that sort of stuff?
Yes, most Japanese cars offer an access panel either in the trunk/hatch or under the back seat. MUCH easier than dropping a gas tank.
LMAO...love the hidden evo maf. Link must be next, so is the afpr since the stock fpr isn't going to cut it. Wideband too....Tom, you are working on that sleeper status. BTW, the ETS I sold you, I just bought it back...lmao
Thanks my friend! Glad to hear that the intercooler made its way back to you! :-D
Lmao...yes it did.
wow at 7:20 "88-"91 colt vista in the u pull it yard don't see to many of those anymore.
With the fuel pump wiring relay, isn't it less than ideal to not run it directly to the pump? You ran it to the outside of the FP housing that still leaves a few inches of oem small gauge wiring...
Tom what year EVO did that 399 MAS come out of? Seeing how you had such success with that setup I am going to do the same.
I don't recall, it was likely an early Evo 8 or 9.
Hey Tom,
I just to mod my MAF and air can years ago, but viewing your channel inspired me in trying fot fit my "better" MAFinto the stock 1G air cam. And now while I'm having everything lying in front of me - everything's dissassembled - I'm not sure to fit it into the air can the most elegant way.

so can you give me any hints or show some pics of how you fitted the Evo MAF into the air can?
Oh, btw, I'm curious if there are any significant differences if you took the MAF from a Galant, Carisma, 2G Eclispe or whatever looks identical exept for the parts number above on the sticker.
Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.... and again, I want to say how much I love your channels - the DSM ones the most of course - because it gives one the feeling to be took by the hand and make a humorous "this it how it's done clean and properly" walkthrough with explanations which even I understand *ggg*
Kind regards, your fan Ibo from Hamburg, Germany
Good luck! www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/390973-air-filter-shootout-test-results.html
As for the interchangeability, I do know that the Evo Maf and the 3G Eclipse MAF is the same. A 2G MAF is a good upgrade, but not the same as an Evo/3G Eclipse MAF.
Enjoy your car and have a good one!

I have a questions!!??Bigger injector give more horsepower or just faster acceleration???
Hi Tom tell me how to build such an adapter for MAP evo 3 galant e39a
you sir are amazing. i love sleepers. also i just found three vr-4s being sold close to me after looking for years. the only problem is when i finally find them im broke. im one sad man right now :(
one is number 221/2000 for $1000 but needs work. dont know what number the other two are but they are in very good condition, one for $4000 and one for $3000
Thanks so much man! Oh that is bad timing! They sound pretty good.
Hmm, okay, anyways thanks for advice. It's such a shame that Škoda ain't in States.
Please upload the next video.
I am very excited to see it jajajaja XD
Ild love to go to the shootout. Just gotta round up my funds and get the wifes Talon running. My talon will need more time unfortunetly, gotta get a new motor that I can make mine in everyway. Torn between 3 by making just enough, balls out, or completely OEM head to toe front to back with dual piston calipers from a 2g.
tom, I haven't ready all of the comments so I'm not sure if others have already suggested this but I would really like to see a test drive after videos like this. Did you turn the boost up at all? How's the evo Maf feel?
Hi there and yes I'll definitely be taking it for a drive and will share that with y'all!
Too sneaky Tom. very nice I like it,
Haha, thanks Tim!
so is the evo MAF the way you tuned for the bigger injectors and fuel pump?
No, engine management is needed.
Well done sir!
Thanks Jason!
Where did you get those long bent pliers?
Great video
Thanks Luis!
HOLLYYYY CRAPP BATMAN!!!! This is awesome... GREAT JOB
Haha, thank you Mike!
i remember my DSM….. went to put in new injectors didn't replace the O rings …… car almost burned to the ground lol lesson learned don't skip out and cut corners !!!!!!!
Right. Tinkering with the fuel system can result in burning up your car if you're not super careful. That's what happened to a friend of mine. He replaced his injectors and his car caught on fire (and was totaled) due to a fuel leak.
Yes, I've heard of this happening as well.
Tom what have you done with the car I don't see any mods :P
Haha! I know man! I've never worked so hard on a car only to see absolutely no difference when I'm done! It's a little unnerving honestly. :-D
Primary wire to the fuel pump needs a fuse close to the battery. Wont be fun if it does get broken without.
The primary wire comes with a pre-made inline fuse near the battery connection. I show this in the video.
Excellent. Thanks!
Thanks Christopher!
WOW! AWESOME!
no need to release fuel line pressure before removing fuel line?
not so sneaky everyone you meet is going to know about your turbo because of your vids lol
Haha, well that's likely. It's more of a fun challenge really, it's not like I'm out street racing every weekend. I'm old.
Hey tom where do order all your oem parts from?
Hi Brian, I get them from a variety of places, check out the DSM vendor marketplace for some good, reputable vendors.
