As a Filipina, I'm blessed that Sex education was thought when I was still studying. I have a friend who tested positive with HIV, I noticed that he was losing a lot of weight and having dry cough so I told him to get checked I wasn't thinking about him having HIV but I felt like he just need some medical help, he brushed it off and later on he said he is going to a clinic coz he noticed some changes in his body. The doctor advised him to get HIV test. At 1st he doesn't want to get tested, so I told him that I'll get tested along with him so that he won't feel embarrassed and alone. And that's when we found out that he has HIV. The counselor who assisted us referred him to hospitals, clinics and local government unit for assistance with his medications. Right now, he's doing better. His cough is gone and he is slowly gaining weight.
I remember buying in a drugstore in the mall these two Taiwanese couple buying condoms. The girl added another box and the people's faces behind the line (not the cashier) is priceless. Like the people felt more embarrassed than the girl buying the condoms. Like a lot of people I know tell a lot of sex jokes (green jokes) and are very creative with them, but still there is a stigma about talking sex in a more serious manner. Like I know a lot of guys who can rapid fire tell a dick joke or talk about his exploits, but would be embarrassed buying condoms in a convenience store.
@@julm7744 Yup. The line behind the couple are the judgemental ones, not the cashier (who is just busy on their work). Edited my last comment, so it is clear.
I suggest "hypocrite" than "judgemental". People blame the government when they having nothing to feed their family, yet in the first place "family planning" was already there but ignored.
I often buy condoms and lubricants at pharmacy rather than convenience stores (ex. 7/11). I've been shame a lot by the convenience store clerks while in pharmacy, pharmacist just sell me condoms and lubs like medicine.
this is not true only to HIV/AIDS but to other issues as well. teenage pregnancy, poverty because it has been our tradition or a part of our culture to be "conservative" but there is a big difference between being conservative and being stupid. we need to spread proper knowledge and information. I applaud the makers and people involved in this video/project because not everyone is as brave as you. 👏👏👏👏👏🥰
In our country, talking about sex openly is taboo. Young people explore and find out about sex elsewhere, not at home or in schools. I think it's high time that we give importance to sex education so we could guide young people more effectively and help them make better decisions when it comes to sex.
Conservative ? Maybe in how you dress . But it doesnt seem that way sexually . It looks like a high percentage of homosexuals in Philippines . Idk why but alot . And that's where the aids is. And the girls have 2 or 3 kids by the time they are early 20s with no father in site . For example , one girl at a restro bar that fat older foreingers hit on her ,she isn't interested at her age of 24 . But when i was chatting with a younger pinoy guy who she thought was attractive . And bought her a drink .she said ; and then after since im drinking you can give me a ride home .. laughing . Handing out a invitation .and that seems the norm .
@@whapakkouch2132its taboo i think because it prevents a young mind with in nature is very curious to explore, eventually if they know they are prepared they will engage. Rather than why avoid. The approach is to expose everyone to sex even they are young, is it what we wanted to justify and say conservatives are wrong. Sex education is practice and it’s enough. Now a-days it’s hard to define wrong or bad because everyone justification makes it more confusing.
and there are men who doesn’t want to use protection during intercourse because it just doesn’t appeal with them and “dampens” their libido during the act. the ignorance.
I have noticed a trend of young people who no longer use condoms. Saying it takes away the feeling. It's not just Philippines either. It's terrifying 😣
I don't use condoms mostly because my wife doesn't like it. But I also don't have multiple partners. For the past 7 years I've only had 1 partner aka my wife. So I think you need to distinguish who should be using and who is allowed to not use it. We also both get full STD screens (including HIV), as it is the responsible thing to do. However, if I was having multiple partners I for sure would use it because not only HIV, you can get other un-curable STDs that can impact your health. I think the culture of not using condoms is due to everything being hyper sexualized and people openly promoting unsafe sex in current pop culture.
puro kayo kahakdogan....condoms are basically made for birth control of those couple who doesn't want to use synthetic contraceptives~ di yan to support your libog and freely have sex with anyone. bat kasi paiba-iba partner~ ginawa kasing libangan yung sex ang angas.x tapos kapag nagkasakit regret~ anlabo nyo
The difference is that the Philippines is a very Catholic country. So talking about sex in schools or the public is discouraged. Just like Muslim countries
@@aldomeow yes, HIV is a big problem in all of Africa. The problem is the stigma of HIV stops people from getting tested. So they pass on the virus to others without knowing so. Condoms are used but sometimes they break. And also rape is very high in Africa and thats another cause of new HIV cases.
This is due to cultural stigma.and the church also hinder sex education to be teach on school..and lack of approach to health services regarding HIV AIDS.
@@megadunsparce5735 It's both. The church for interfering with the government. The people for blindly following the church without questioning its teachings.
@@megadunsparce5735 Nope. Ideas like religion dont deserve rights. If should be mocked and criticize as much as possible. And who are you to dictate which human beings deserve rights?
@@megadunsparce5735 Are you blind or just stupid? The church has been against condom use for decades yet condoms are proven to lessen the chances of transmission of HIV. Stop lying for catholic church.
There was an HR bill that was proposed years ago in the Philippines to counter this issues. however the Catholic Church opposed it. this is a classic example to why church and state have to be seperate in the country. The Catholic Church has too much power!
Compared to the West and East Asia, it is true religious authorities have much more influence on society! However, compared to 20-25 years ago (mind you I am in my mid-30s) the Catholic Church's influence is significanfly less than it was back then! And love or hate him, the fact Duterte even won the 2016 elections is a sign of the Catholic Church's loosening grip in our society (we all remember how hard they were campaigning against him back then)!
But even the propagandists admit the people spreading this are young home o’sexuals. They are blatantly ignoring religious teachings. How can you blame religion for a problem created by sin?
@@DFunct905 Having sex is a natural part of life, the Catholic Church deemed it inappropriate to talk about it in schools and buying condoms in the shop is frowned upon, because of their teachings. Religion have no place in government and decision making. What has religion really done for our country? you’re one of those people who think homosexuality is a sin huh? does it affect you at the end of the day? If a man sleeps with another man? Why should you care if what other people do? The Catholic Church is full of pedophiles, a lot of priest are more sinful than your average citizenss
Yep, matagal ng pasa ang rh law. Way back dec. 2012 pa. Every brgy. Health centers provide free contraceptives kung magtatanong lang po tayo. Dito nga sa lugar namin bumaba ang bilang ng unwanted pregnancies at parang wala na akong naririnig na nag papa abort ng bata.
I went to a private Catholic HS about a decade or so ago (pre-K-12), and remember how aghast my classmates' faces were, especially my male classmates when they thought that using a condom already stops a woman from getting pregnant. Being a predominantly Catholic country does not stop people, especially the youth, from having unprotected sex, but I believe that they shouldn't interfere with how sex ed should be taught in schools, or the way we think about or view sex as Filipinos. As an update and to clarify, I was raised Catholic and so I based my observations from what I actually experienced. Not saying these religious institutions, like the Catholic church are solely to blame for the lack of sex ed in schools and the epidemics that arise as a result, but you have to admit that they too influence those in power that crafts and enacts bills or laws that could hinder sex ed from being taught and fund programs that might help stop this epidemic.
@Sleepy Hollow people didn't choose to be brainwash. That's why it's called being brainwash and it is usually common in children for they are young and almost don't know anything around the world.
Dr Vinn is an angel! Non judgemental, understanding and genuinely wants to help people, so they can learn to help themselves. The world needs more people like him! Thanks Dr Vinn.
The work Vin and Love Yourself are doing is fantastic and hopefully will go some way to combating HIV in the Philippines. But so much more needs to be done.
the stigma to ask for help is still there. i just found out last year that our municipal health center gives out free meds for hiv if you just ask them
That's true. But beside that problem rooting from our culture, religion and history I think teenage pregnancy and family planning is really a one of the biggest problem that is neglected throughout the years. One of it's consequence is Manila, Philippines being one of the cities that are struck with a large volume of child homelessness and people who live in poverty with large volume of children. Maybe it is our culture, religion and history that causes this problem, maybe it's our poor urban planning, poor governance, corruption and a lot more reasons. Globally people views Filipino's as people full of joy and resilient even though they are oppressed, even though they are poor and even though they are literally living in a place they don't deserve to be with. It is not because they are positive, it is because it is all they have, they are forced to justify that they need to be contented, that they need to be resilient, to create more babies and hope that one of them lift them from their situations and that money is not a determiner of being happy even though they can't eat and provide the basic needs of their child. That's a freaking full cycle, my dad who was born in 1950's told me that nothing even changed and that inequalities are even rising. I'm tired of the international view, but especially I'm super tired of our politicians glorifying the poor the ignorant mass by telling them that they are resilient, optimistic, that they are the embodiment of Filipino's, rewarding them a sheer amount of pride that fuels their ego. They don't really care at all, they are just there to harvest free votes in any incoming elections, they deceived them, buy them, and promise them a lie. because if they do really care? The international view of Filipino's will be the people who can achieve the maximum needs of their child, an educated mass freed from ignorance, have a low number of unemployment, have a good transportation, disciplined people, have a low number of people living in poverty and more. Filipino's are skillful laborer, great in medical practice, some have great minds, some are generational talents. Filipino's can achieve more but we are really socially divided and most if not all are really full of ego and arrogant in nature caused by our culture, religion and history. I hope we can change somewhere down the ages, I hope we can perform a miracle like our east asians neighbor. I hope that all of my dreams for our country will not still be a dream in our future.
I agree with you but don’t forget religion plays a large part as well. Religion seems to thrive in countries with lower education levels and poverty. Their disrespect towards contraceptives are a large part of the birth rate and poverty levels are increasing.
@𝕵.𝕰. I’m from Canada. Religion DOES thrive in countries with more poverty and lower education. As a percentage basis countries like Mexico, Columbia, Philippines, Brazil, most of Africa have more poverty so religion is something they can hope for. I’m not saying Philippines is a bad place or the people are bad. I’m basing it all on statistics. Yes every country has poverty but what percentage of the Philippines are living under $50 USD a day compared to Australia, New Zealand, France, Canada, Taiwan etc.
I am from the philippines and my mom enolled me in a Catholic school during highschool. Our teacher which is a nun always reminds us students that using condoms or any contraceptives is a sin and it is against the church.
Despite the Constitution mandating the separation of the State and the Church, the Church is still influential on the creation of laws and policies. That's how tough the situation is...
@@marvinbayawalcantara7488 There are different religions in the Philippines, and the teachings of Christianity does not apply to all. The separation of the state is there to make decisions for the sake of the Filipino people and the economy, and not for religious teachings.
I remembered way back in college about having some debate regarding the usage of safe sex. I know we were raised as a catholic country but having some knowledge about using these safe sex method is vital. Sex education seems to be a taboo kind of topic but we should be more open-minded about knowing the perks of having ideas on how to perform safe sex.
in Filipino culture, most of us ( in my knowledge) are so obsessed with sex and relationship goals. those who are not so happy with their life trying their luck to find happiness with a partner. and these days, men are not only having relationship with opposite sex, they are also getting more interested in having relationship with both opposite and same sex.
Facts, this is lowkey true. Do you happen to know the stem and the cause as to why Filipino culture is strongly influenced to have “relationship goals” and sex? Is it because of TV dramas, neighborhood culture/influence, environmental surroundings, etc? It just feels like the Philippines is strongly influenced to have “relationship goals”, compared to North American and European countries where it is socially acceptable to stay single grow your own lifestyle?
It's basically TV dramas (usually about the romanticization of the danger of having 2 relationships) and tons of unoriginal romance movies being chugged out nowadays.
If a male, have relationships (special for pleasure only) with opposite sex his not purely male.. is gender is questionable. Don't look for happiness in people or things, share your happiness with others, it will grow back to you.
Because people in our country think that having sex is taboo. Our elders and even some religious people frown up when hearing about sex. Even though some of us still believe in our traditions and culture, I believe that we should not feel disgusted or even judge these people for them having sex. The lack of education and even lack of courage to buy contraceptives in drug stores because of people judging are only a few of the factors why the Philippines has the fastest rising HIV infection rate.
i believe we should remove the stigma with talking about sex education, and how we should approach sex because it's human nature. Instead of saying "avoid it", talk about when engaging in one, how do we stay safe? It's not encouraging sex but informing what happens in it and how we should prepare ourselves with possibilities of STDs and pregnancy. I don't mean talking about sex openly when it comes to removing the stigma but rather being able to be comfortable in talking about it when needed to.
I studied in a public high school in the Philippines and we were taught about STDs so i'm not sure why someone said it wasn't taught 🤔 but yes, the stigma is there and it's not addressed properly even in schools
Yes, it's taught because of the RH Law of 2012. Those who were in school prior to 2012, have Sex Ed in their freshman year in College (especially State Universities).
My experience on a public school about sex education in the years 2014-17,sex education was taught and HIV information was distributed to us students, some of my colleagues didn't actually took it seriously they just laughed at the teacher, when the teacher said "a condom might save your life" these claims are just too stupid, claiming that schools didn't teach students about HIV and sex education, people mostly teens don't take anything serious and I assume that's one of the reasons why people get aids and say they didn't know because it wasn't taught.
lol right...condom doesn't work either...still people can't get it Sex outside marriage is bad karma people doesn't knows basic behavior then they wonder whats wrong..smh
@@dhammmaraja my point is that sex education even when taught isn't taken seriously, and with the use of condoms, like a situation oh (yeah I have a condom let's do it)but you actually didn't know sometimes it dosen't work because you didn't took the sex education seriously(I don't blame anyone Filipino culture embraces sex jokes, it's just that, it's a fact
I was educated regarding HIV very recent only in our company info drive and I'm already 28 years old( but I guess I'm lucky for being single and not getting exposed to this but there is the what ifs, you'll never know when its already too late)... HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted illnesses were not even spoken to us during HS or college. Sex Education should really have been a course in High school cause it will not just save young people from these illnesses, this will also save teens from unplanned pregnancies.
This brings me back to that STD presentation we had to sit through. It was a damn horror show. They should be showing that in schools worldwide. It traumatized me.

I've never met a person in the Philippines that actually uses condoms. And I was born and raised here. It's quite shocking but I was fortunate enough to have an awesome American school so had the proper education to know better. Also a pack of condoms cost two meals for low income population.
There is sex education taught in schools. I remember having that when I was in my 4th year. However, the kind of discussion that they do about sex is more on the scientific side and does not discuss anything about behaviors or HIV or condom use which I think is more important.

As a Filipino in his mid-30s, I notice the influence of the Catholic Church has dropped quite a bit compared to like 20-25 years ago! Yes compared to most Western countries, it is still quite religious but it is slowly but steadying opening up with these matters! But sadly, a lot of the elites in charge of shit tend to be far more conservative than the overall general population are...
Lack of education is the main reason due to conservative country that churches opposes that sex education. That this should be teach at home not at school, lets get real not all parents have time to tell their kids how private parts works and sexual transmitted is. Plus with social media its easy to get hook with someone without knowing the risk of having unprotected sex. There is a stigma when buying a condom and lubricant to, i experience that a lady stare at me like its a bad stuff that i am buying.

The sadistic from aids is similar to the death's truth overdose or the suicide rate, in some countries is like seasonal, some years are like Phillipines case, 2008 was Brasil etc. The reason is the missing acceptance and the misleading information. Religion and other factors like sexism, racism and the political violence do that our kids have no protection, we need to improve a society for all and not just for the religious / rich people
You are just believing what western media sells you. He is what the country needs. You cannot clean up a corrupt country's problems without getting blood on your hands. He actually wants to change things but the church interferes and hinders progress.
Duterte helped us a lot when it comes to many things especially drugs. He didn't have the time nor the political allies to provide proper sex education for our youths. I have faith in BBMSARA admin that they can solve this issue one step at a time. DepEd has made gender-inclusive education which is supportive of LGBTs.
I'm Filipino and I hate that they are blaming HIV spread coz of lack of information...look around my country and u will see kids as young as 5 years old using smartphones...information is accessible and available! The problem is the majority of Filipino choose to play victim..watch soap operas and be lazy..!
I'm studying from a catholic school too and we also had sex education. I had to memorize contraceptive equipments in highschool. My religion forbids sex before marriage and homosexuality so I just memorized it for the sake of grades but I still remember some info.
I don't agree with awareness "hindi pa ganoong kalawak." This is not the 1990s or early 2000s where information is limited. It is the promiscuity and reckless behavior of these people that drives the rise of HIV in the Philippines.
I think one reason is lack of public recreational establishment. The only affordable place the people could "gala" is Mall and park. We need libraries, museums, theatre, sports complex and etc in every city or municipality. Also, lack of information if ever they are free Sport workshop, only those close to the people who are in charge will know. 🙃 They should post online and offline for these kind of information. Because not all can afford everyday internet. Also, one reason that most teenagers engaged in that kind of relationship is because of TV dramas, lack of parental love or just simply curious about it and want the thrill of it.
this is a very complicated problem, we should respect each others rights and each others decisions but we shouldn't be easily swayed by our lust and desires specially without protection
Not sure how schools teach Sex Ed or if they even do teach Sex Ed these days, but way back 2006, IIRC. We were taught about it in highschool. How it was done, possible risks, methods to prevent pregnancy and all that. It was a Catholic School as well. Then again, maybe I was just privileged enough to be in a private school.
Addendum: The history of social hygeine clinics in the Philippines is bound up with a history of examining and treating prostitutes for STI's, often in a compulsory and oppressive manner. So this could be another reason many people avoid going to these facilities and availing of their services. It's interesting to hear that PEP's are widely available; I've read other reports from a few years ago to the contrary. Patients were told that the PEP's were earmarked only for health workers who come into contact with HIV patients. So some people who had a risky encounter or other (potential) HIV exposure were frantically trying to travel abroad to access PEP's in time to prevent infection. Assuming they could afford the trip, of course.
It’s simple sex tourism. How many Filipino men had HIV before this documentary highlighting the problem? How many of these men have wives or girlfriends they’re having sex with that they’re significant partners don’t know about their behavior?
Catholic elem school in the 90s, we had sex ed. Some materials were sponsored by a feminine hygiene products manufacturer. I was so envious of the girls in the class, because they were given informational booklets, lol! Science high school in the late 90s-2000s, the sanitary pad manufacturer had a roadshow at our school. So ok, added learning, but then my journalism teacher went berserk and took us out of the assembly and proceeded to verbally abuse us inside her classroom saying we were only interested in sex, sex, sex!!! And to me she was being insane, what's wrong with sex ed? At 10 years old we even had a class where we cleared up misconceptions about menstruation, so why should 13 year old me revert to ignorance? I'm seen as conservative about these things, and too liberal at the same time. Thing is, I treat it as education, science, fact finding. You have to be properly educated about sex, then afterwards you can do whatever you want with another consenting adult. And doesn't that apply to most things in life? I also had a classmate in elementary school die of AIDS when we were in our mid 20s. Smart kid, unfortunately he didn't get enough guidance about these things.
back when I was in a catholic university we had an HIV awareness day where us students could get free condoms and they had fruit and other things covered in condoms and inserted into things to kind of represent sex and just be like hey safe sex is important and this is what HIV is, this is how it spreads, etc. and they were really trying to teach people about it and the priests that run the school got so mad that they were never able to do it again... really sad bc the art displays for it were really cool and it's really disheartening to see the religious groups be so against it especially if it's for the health of the general public. we do hear about how HIV is on the rise especially among the youth but we are never taught about it... if you want to learn you'll have to do it by yourself and unfortunately even those that would like to learn/would benefit from learning about these things don't have access to materials to help them
it's because of couples or people who doesn't practice using condoms, even buying condoms makes people look embarrassed, the country also have surging rate in teenage pregnancy. I have been educated at a very young age about Sex education, dangers of teenage pregnancy and etc. Most people have probably came across being taught about Sex education but either choose to forget it or ignore the lessons.
The one that said HIV doesn't taught in schools here in Philippines is not true. I studied in public school when i was in junior high and we studied this kind of diseases and how it transmitted. Maybe many people tend to not use condom because of its price. Just thinking
Awareness about HIV is already in place in the Philippines. The problem lies in the individuals themselves, who disregards safety in favor of pleasure.
The thing with Philippines is that when the legislators would want to pass a law to enhance sex education ( including health education, awareness, safe sex practices etc) the number 1 opposition that would hinder even the drafting of that law, is the church and the conservative people. I get it, our country is the largest catholic population in asia, but it is not helping at all, add on top of that, there are influential politicians that would ride on that church's stance just so that they will gain the support of the church, which in turn will (probably) support them in their political endeavors every 3 years. When Sex Education is opened up, it is automatically implied by the general public, insinuated by the church, that it is promoting promiscuity, when in fact it is not. Because of this situation, the topic of sex is still taboo and our youngsters get to do it without any idea other than it is for pleasure and for reproduction and that it involves sticking the schlong inside the monkey until it feels good. As a Nurse, when i do health education , especially birth control, way back in college during community health nursing, i would get awkward laugh or even get frowned upon when i discuss it to the community. Our group was once approached by the community leader ( who was influenced by the parish priest of that area )when my subgroup taught the group of couples how to properly use a condom. it is saddening that despite the fast technological advances, there are some backward thinking, influential entities that hinder this important topic from getting into the mainstream.
So sad to hear. This is why I was very glad that in the past years there was a shift in our politics towards duterteism. The church no longer controlls the majority of the people. Hopefully, this will help our youth to have a better chance fighting against different diseases such as monkeypox and aids. Nowadays, the church has even lost more of its power since the start of bbmsara admin.
School should start the education and tell it to parents the knowledge of sex too. This is a long and tough journey. Most Asia countries still see sex education as a taboo topic.

There should be more education regarding HIV awareness. Using PrEP for instance especially when you are sexually active is not getting enough exposure for HIV prevention. Sadly, there is still a stigma and shame when you are diagnosed with HIV and even getting tested elicits anxiety and fear to many. This should stop.
As far as I can remember, we already had sex education in public schools since 90's and even though na wala sa school ang sex education ngayon, meron pa ring way ang mga teachers to educate students...tinuturo sa mga students ang mga causes and effects of having sex.

In our country, talking about sex openly is taboo. Young people explore and find out about sex elsewhere, not at home or in schools. I think it's high time that we give importance to sex education so we could guide young people more effectively and help them make better decisions when it comes to sex.
Some are just pretending to be a conservative but they act differently from what they have said.

Hi 🙋🏼♀️
@Tanzim Khan hello cutie
The work Vin and Love Yourself are doing is fantastic and hopefully will go some way to combating HIV in the Philippines. But so much more needs to be done.
the stigma to ask for help is still there. i just found out last year that our municipal health center gives out free meds for hiv if you just ask them
But does he actually advertises or you've gone there on a tip off.
Their disrespect towards contraceptives are a large part of the birth rate and poverty levels are increasing.

in Filipino culture, most of us ( in my knowledge) are so obsessed with sex and relationship goals. those who are not so happy with their life trying their luck to find happiness with a partner.
and these days, men are not only having relationship with opposite sex, they are also getting more interested in having relationship with both opposite and same sex.
If a male, have relationships (special for pleasure only)
with opposite sex his not purely male.. is gender is questionable.

Exactly, kaya matutong gumamit ng condom. Huwag padikta sa beliefs ng iba.
@Version Ten point oh Not new, lots of women from different countries do this too
Because people in our country think that having sex is taboo.
And to think our pre-colonial ancestors were WAY MORE open about sex and sexual topics compared to us now!
I mean nobody talks about SEX but everybody's doing it all around! Damn!!
i believe we should remove the stigma with talking about sex education, and how we should approach sex because it's human nature.

The less you talk about sex/expose/normalize sex the higher the teenage pregnancy and STD rates. Also the Catholic/Christian conservative culture is a huge factor in this. I'd say it is the first hurdle to overcome when fighting against early pregnancy and STD
Know why? People don't care about the consequences of their actions. Doesn't care about others. What is important is the pleasure they can get NOW.

@@mrconfusion87 Yes you are right. I know a lot of Filipino people (I'm married to one) and have lived there many years. You have a very good point.

Sex education is still a taboo topic to this Nation, aside from that the heavily influenced of Catholic church to the state.
We had health science that discusses transmitted diseases in school before. I think this should be reinstalled.

The sadistic from aids is similar to the death's truth overdose or the suicide rate, in some countries is like seasonal, some years are like Phillipines case, 2008 was Brasil etc. The reason is the missing acceptance and the misleading information. Religion and other factors like sexism, racism and the political violence do that our kids have no protection, we need to improve a society for all and not just for the religious / rich people
I feel so sorry people living there.
They have the WORST leader!
Instead of killing people, help the people???
Their leader is the church...the old outdated thinking is killing the filipinos
You are just believing what western media sells you. He is what the country needs. You cannot clean up a corrupt country's problems without getting blood on your hands. He actually wants to change things but the church interferes and hinders progress.
What?! Why are you blaming the President for some people's own actions and will? Does the president controls the sex life of its people?
Duterte helped us a lot when it comes to many things especially drugs. He didn't have the time nor the political allies to provide proper sex education for our youths.
I have faith in BBMSARA admin that they can solve this issue one step at a time. DepEd has made gender-inclusive education which is supportive of LGBTs.

I'm Filipino and I hate that they are blaming HIV spread coz of lack of information...look around my country and u will see kids as young as 5 years old using smartphones...information is accessible and available! The problem is the majority of Filipino choose to play victim..watch soap operas and be lazy..!
Real talk, you hit the nail on the head
I'm from a Catholic school but luckily they have enough braincells to teach students like me about sex education in our science classes.
im from public they also taught us abt this, but idk sa others
I'm studying from a catholic school too and we also had sex education. I had to memorize contraceptive equipments in highschool. My religion forbids sex before marriage and homosexuality so I just memorized it for the sake of grades but I still remember some info.
I don't agree with awareness "hindi pa ganoong kalawak." This is not the 1990s or early 2000s where information is limited. It is the promiscuity and reckless behavior of these people that drives the rise of HIV in the Philippines.
Thanks doc! We're so proud of you. Keep it up. And to yt vice, thanks for the documentary it's an eye opener.
It is more scary than COVID.😥😥
I think one reason is lack of public recreational establishment. The only affordable place the people could "gala" is Mall and park. We need libraries, museums, theatre, sports complex and etc in every city or municipality. Also, lack of information if ever they are free Sport workshop, only those close to the people who are in charge will know. 🙃 They should post online and offline for these kind of information. Because not all can afford everyday internet.
Also, one reason that most teenagers engaged in that kind of relationship is because of TV dramas, lack of parental love or just simply curious about it and want the thrill of it.
but then where can you smash carefree in a religious country .
this is a very complicated problem, we should respect each others rights and each others decisions but we shouldn't be easily swayed by our lust and desires specially without protection
Thank you grindr, planetromeo.
This Doctor is really trying to make a change. I hope his work goes well.
Teach and spread Morality is the key and not the sex education
This is why filipinos make good care takers and most are very caring Dr. Vinn is complete non-judgmental.
Props to Doctor Vin!
this Doc is so kind!
What the heck is this happening in my country.
Same shit, different day!

You are an highly bright soul. Thank you so much for your work to your community.
back when I was in a catholic university we had an HIV awareness day where us students could get free condoms and they had fruit and other things covered in condoms and inserted into things to kind of represent sex and just be like hey safe sex is important and this is what HIV is, this is how it spreads, etc. and they were really trying to teach people about it and the priests that run the school got so mad that they were never able to do it again... really sad bc the art displays for it were really cool and it's really disheartening to see the religious groups be so against it especially if it's for the health of the general public. we do hear about how HIV is on the rise especially among the youth but we are never taught about it... if you want to learn you'll have to do it by yourself and unfortunately even those that would like to learn/would benefit from learning about these things don't have access to materials to help them

it's because of couples or people who doesn't practice using condoms, even buying condoms makes people look embarrassed, the country also have surging rate in teenage pregnancy.

I think the VAST MAJORITY is self inflicted!
Please don't stop address these issues... it's not too late
This is why folks you cant just pass a liberal law without proper regulation or controlling the consequences.
Lack of parenting and sex education

Condoms are expensive in ASEAN countries. When the price of a single condom is equal to the cost of a meal, it becomes a burden.
A meal in ASEAN countries cost less than a dollar.
@@chrisp.4341 and your point?
Nobody seems to talk about the sex tourism thats going on in Philippines. Where do u think it comes from? I remember seeing homeless looking people going to Phillipines on the plane when I went to visit. Soon it will be like Thailand or Vietnam with the sex tourism.
They knew but they don't want to address it
JUST BE LOYAL TO EACH OTHER AND YOUL BE SAFE...
AND use clean and safe needles
Im sorry but it still wont help right.the education aint there about what u should do and do not do.just cant depend on the thought of being loyal.if thats the issue, then there should be some education done about loyalty
The real problem is tourist rawdogging everything in sight.
So you think it will stop if they make it illegal to have sex with anyone who isn’t a Philippine citizen? Do you really think that booboo?
There should be more education regarding HIV awareness. Using PrEP for instance especially when you are sexually active is not getting enough exposure for HIV prevention. Sadly, there is still a stigma and shame when you are diagnosed with HIV and even getting tested elicits anxiety and fear to many. This should stop.
I am not surprised to hear about such high HIV numbers there - PNP ( party and play ) is Very very popular in the Philippines - I was shocked 😁😁😁
As far as I can remember, we already had sex education in public schools since 90's and even though na wala sa school ang sex education ngayon, meron pa ring way ang mga teachers to educate students...tinuturo sa mga students ang mga causes and effects of having sex. Hindi siguro ganun ka thorough, pero dapat parents also should share the effort of providing their children knowledge about the causes and effects of having sex and also about HIV/AIDS.

Because sex outside of marriage is a sin.
