Drona spreads fear and destruction in the Pandava army. He seems invincible but Krishna tells Yudhistir and Arjun that Drona can be defeated. “If he were to hear that his son, Ashwathama is dead, he would lose interest in life and throw down his weapons”, says Krishna. Yudhisthir consults Bheem who kills a huge elephant that was also named Ashwathama. Bheem roars, “I’ve killed Ashwathama”. Drona hears his word and shouts back, “I will not take your word for it, let Yudhisthir say so.” Yudhisthir repeats, “Ashwathama is dead” and then he mutters to himselkf, “Ashwathama, the elephant”. Upon hearing Yudhishthir, Drona lays down his weapons and is killed.

Which old Mahabharat? The 60's movie? I hope not, that one I saw many times since childhood. And I like it for entertainment and certain teachings. But it's also very contradictory to the 80's TV serial, which makes more sense.

Brilliant portrayal of Bhima. Shows how he was a master strategist in the battlefield. He was the one who quickly identified the opportunity Krishna was hinting at. A king needs various skills in my opinion, not just adherence to truth or Dharma like Yudhishthir. That's why Bhima was more deserving in my eyes to be the king. He always took care of his brothers, Draupadi and mother before any Dharma, was a great archer, a master strategist in the battlefield too. His was an extremely understated character in this greatest epic of mankind.
He definitely was the most efficient killer among all his brothers. Single handedly wiped out the Kaurava clan.

Yudhishthira tried to avoid war as much as possible because he thought about the lakhs of people who would die in the war. But, when the Kauravas told the Pandavas to go into exile again for 13 years and then come and ‘beg’ for five villages, he had enough and needed to reclaim his rights. So, then, he decided to go to war. So, he is more deserving to be king than any of the Pandavas.

I must say something today here: There were many reasons behind the Mahabharat yudh and Draupadi was one of them.
Actually one of the reasons was to let people know in the future what war and it's results mean. Also how actions from certain important and respectful characters let to the war. Many respectful characters had their role in it. Like Satyavati, her father, King Shantanu, Devavrat aka Bhishm pitama, mother of Dhritarashtra and ultimately and disasterful by Dhritarashtra, his wife, clanmembers and Draupadi.
