That is correct. Joao Pinto was lucky that he didn't break the leg of Park-Ji-Sung with his left leg. If he had used just the right amount of force together with the right angle, the outcome could have been very different. Therefore do I think the referee was right to give him a red card, for that reckless and could have been career ending tackle.

As much as I think the tournament was rigged in Korea's favor..... that was an obvious red card. So unless Joao Pinto was bought too I think this is deserved...
The only country who was robbed was Spain and Belgium in the World Cup. Even Italy wasn’t robbed. 5th minute penalty was justly, after Panucci holds Seol Ki Hyeon. Totti red card was justly after a first class dive. The only controversial moment was the offside goal from Tommasi but the goalkeeper stopped playing. Well deserved red card. However, Angel had many mistakes leading to that red card. Overall, refereeing was very bad in late 90s and early 20s, Euro 2000 and WC 2002 being the peak of dark times. It's still not perfect, even VAR is prone to manipulation, but it is better, way better.
i agree its a foul but its just revenge tbh. but still it dosent change the ignorance of the referees and the foul play by the players. THE UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH has been revealed now...over 600 matches fixed? worst world cup ever
Exactly, but plenty of 2002 conspiracy videos made by the Japanese contain footage of this red card being issued, without showing the actual tackle. Combined with sinister music and selected late tackles by Koreans, they aim to portray Korea as dirty cheats.
