Those SAMs on the Gleipnir bugs me.
If a SAM launcher is mounted on an aircraft, it is not a SAM (Surface-to-Air-Missile) anymore. It's a AAM (Air-to-Air Missile).
Let’s say it’s mounted on the “surface” of the Gleipnir.

Is it just me or back when I played this as a kid, midway through the fight the Gleipnir would lose control and fly upside-down whilst shooting directly at the sky?

That's what it does canonically, instead of going for the city. Apparently it's actually trying to use the shock cannon on you.
If you're looking for more skilled, "expert" game walkthroughs, look elsewhere, 'cause this ain't the channel for that. I simply play the games the way I always do.

Honestly the SWBM and Gleipnir are really interesting weapons concepts and designs. Plus it shows Leasath's push to victory when they use data from the Gleipnir to make the Fenrir fighters.

"I will deliver one final blow to the enemy, as commander of the Gleipnir... Am I to be denied even that?!"

Still my favorite Ace Combat game to date. The Gleipnir was better than most new large ships like the Arsenal Birds that are just kinda meh... And most importantly there weren't loads of forced plot device enemies and events where you can stick 30 missiles up one enemy fighters tailpipe and five tons of 20mm cannon rounds and they still won't go down because the desired story moment has yet to be reached. In this one you actually had an effect on the story based on how you could fight, you fail to deal with the Gleipnir in one missions, versus hit it hard and knock out its launchers and you get a different mission later on.
Gleipnir would be terrifying on a console or PC, it’s strength was held back by PSP limitations at the time
@@stealthSGMB Ya... well, if they do a remake/reimagining on PC I'd buy it so here's to hoping against all hope. Or better yet maybe we'll get some more inspired games like Project Wingman, but one more closely including something like the Gleipnir in it.

I LOVE the branching pathways and customizational options for certain planes, Wish you could customize every plane.
Actually, I wish you had these same options on the PS3 or PS4 versions...... :/

The easiest way to reveal it on any level easy or insane is use your special especially th ones that shot four missiles(air to air or air to ground ones) shoot where the gleipnir is and use the regular missiles aswell so all in all you use six missiles at it and it's cloaking device is instantly destroyed right at the beginning finished the whole game on insane and unlocked all the planes the last two are the best planes and great gameplay too

Man I really miss this game. The best aircraft game I have ever played back then.
It isn't enough to shoot down the Gleipnir, you must shoot down all of the aircraft and sink the command ship to get a "S" rating. You have the general right idea. try it when you get to "Ace".
I won't use XMAA unless locked on multiple targets.

I think "Crux" in that particular line is meant to be the Gleipnir ground control. My question is why didn't they just crash it into the city, and finish what they started.

I know this is a year old, but it looks to have been some kind of a "Sigh... Fine, have it your way" kind thing. Absolutely massacring military targets is one thing, but being held in history as the captain responsible for intentionally crashing an airborne-fortress into a city full of civilians is a shitty way to go. At least in a moral standpoint.
Why don't they just have an energy shield or sliding armor for the Shock Cannon....?

Edit: Namely because this is not transformers, starscreams aircraft is a real aircraft and proper ace combat fans would be far more likely to request a Mobius skin instead.

what the hell were you doing! use those XMAAs your aircraft has when you need them, god dammit! you would have gotten a better grade if you had killed gleipnir's cloak sooner, if you had downed more aircraft, taken out more ground troops, and shot down the gleipnir before it had gotten too far across the river!

Kinda thought you would never respond for some reason. This game was a tough 'n because you can't use yaw and have to rely on pitch and upward mobility instead. I've been a long-time player and, like most people, developed a personalized flying style. I wish these early games had multiplayer so I didn't have to make this arbitrary claim, and we could settle this like true aces ;)
I pretty much missed out on Ace Combat as a whole. My experience is limited to 4, 5 and X. I don't think I even have a "style," unless "keep circling the enemy until I get a missile lock" counts. :P
***** Oh, don't be too hard on yourself! 4, 5, and Zero are the only ones I play. That certainly is a method of play, but I feel as though it cheapens the game experience, if only slightly. You start to rely on the statistics of the best plane available, which works btw, but you never quite get into the groove. My style is the up-close and personal approach. Of course I can decimate any enemy should I be handed his tail pipe on a silver platter; however, a turning fight when the enemy is behind me is my favorite. I alternate turns directly into the enemy, engaging in a constant "rolling scissors." The AI usually can't swap its turns as fast as a human reflex so as the enemy turns into me (narrowly avoiding a collision), I role my own plane over, hit the air brake, and he proceeds to shoot out in front for a kill that is a true work of art.
Sorry if it's a little rambly but I love the chance to talk planes with just about anyone :)
Also, when you understand the relative motion of two combat aircraft, you can take down a F-22 with a Mig-21 no problem. Hell! I just finished Zero using nothing but a Mig-21 >:)

Out of all the Ace combat games, this has got to be one of, if not, the worst and more corniest of them all. But the Fenrir is what mainly stole the show.
