Doesn't custom website cost low ? Like if not getting any customers I still have to pay for Shopify and it's apps ryt ? And if I'm doing it with a custom website it only takes payment for the hosting service ryt ?
Well, I think obviously, you can't get customers right away, and either you use Shopify or Custom website, you must pay a certain amount of money. If you calculate again I believe Shopify still has lower cost. Why? For example, you use Shopify basic plan for $29 per month and you don't use any app (or free app), you have a free domain, hosting, and SSL certificate, even when the first 2-3 months you just have to pay each month $29. While with the custom site, you have to pay for Domain, Hosting, SSL certificate by yourself (the price depends on the service you choose), and if you have zero technical background, you have to hire developers to build your site and maintain it; with Shopify, you have all of that in one package (you even have support 24/7, if there's any technical issue). And in the long run, I'm sure you must do marketing activities to get more customers to come to your site, right? No one will let the bad situation last for long. Shopify has both free and paid marketing apps to help you, while with a custom site you definitely have to pay for them.
Custom website mostly cause time if you know how to code it yourself, although the benefit is you have full control and can reuse the code for the website. Whereas Shopify cost little time but can be quite heavy in terms of fees and prices.
i hate to be that person, but you really dont know what your talking about. every time you mentioned something like plugins being this major thing and constantly bringing up wordpress kind of outed you a bit. all shopify is, is just a middleman for people who cant code or are willing to dish out the cash for someone to code the site for you. your comparisons to making your own site versus shopify have no barring on each other. Google domains are $12 a year. they even auto renew. hosting services like Vercel and Netlify are FREE until you have a substantial amount of traffic. those 2 hosting sites even provide an SSL certificate automatically which was such an odd thing when you made it out to be this huge ordeal. in terms of updating an items price or whether its on the store or not, just have an Admin portal for the store. its such a common thing that chances are every dev already has one made, ready to go. i came here looking for an actual item by item comparison but then it hit me, THE AFFILIATE LINK. kinda scummy to miss lead like that, dont you think?
What if i told you that you can have own Custom website store in couple of minutes with easy Admin Panel where you can add products easly in couple clicks ? You only pay 99€ ONCE !!!!! Then of course you will only pay monhtly for own domain name 7€ and you got 1 year free SSL.
Great question! Well, as I said in the video, for more customization, obviously having your own website is a better choice (and yes, life is easier when you are a web developer yourself). But you can think of the aspect that many merchants who want to build an online store are not web developers (like you), so they can try opening a store on Shopify with a non-technical background. It's their choice whether to hire a developer (combining with finding their own domain and hosting providers) or utilize Shopify back-end features, available hosting, and domain.
Trade off between time and customization. I am a Developer myself and I still choose shopify backend with React app on the frontend. You can not single handedly do the thousands of work hours spent at Shopify by their Developers to implement the features they have

Its more than just a website template engine, they offer discounted shipping and stuff. Trying to rationalize building one from scratch but whats the point. You are either going to pay shopify, or u have to pay stripe or some other kind of payment processor. no matter what ur still paying a monthly fee. Might as well take the one with all the extra stuff.
What a load of BS. It is easy to set up a website. And the cost would be less than $100 a year. With Shopify, even the lowest plan will cost about $500 a year. The only reason I can think of why these UA-camrs promote Shopify is that they are making money from it.
